Dr. Charles Mok explores whether MS damages the brain directly. He discusses leaky gut and blood-brain barrier problems in MS patients, and presents an unproven hypothesis that gut bacteria might reach brain tissue, where bacterial traces have been found in MS lesions.

We also know in multiple sclerosis and other neurologic conditions, there's a. There's a blood brain barrier that has some impairment. So the brain is a barrier between the bloodstream and the brain, and things do get through. So it's hard for bacteria to get in the brain, for example, because if they did, we'd get meningitis, and that's pretty lethal. So blood brain barrier is important. All the Ms. Patients have a leaky gut. They have a leaky brain, more or less. And this is not proven yet, but this, there may be a link between these bacteria that are opening up these pathway in the gut, allowing other bacteria to get through the gut and into the brain. Because we're seeing traces of DNA from bacteria in the plaques of brains, lesions of brains with Ms.
