Dr. Charles Mok compares umbilical cord and fat-derived stem cells. Umbilical cells may last around 7 years versus 5 years for fat cells. Choice depends on your age, whether you want your own cells or donor cells, and cost.

Now, what works better, umbilical or fat derived stem cells? There are no studies comparing the two directly. There's some logic that a very old person may benefit from umbilical stem cells, but other studies have shown older people still have stem cells in their fat that are working just fine. Sometimes it's a matter of cost. Sometimes it's a matter of thinking about using your own stuff versus you getting cells from another human being. There have been studies showing that umbilical stem cells can have results lasting up to seven years that drive stem cells probably more like five years, so perhaps they last a little bit longer. Material difference.
