Short advocacy-style statement by a clinician arguing intra-articular steroid injections quickly damage joint tissues and metabolism, have systemic effects (noting special risk for diabetics), and that administering more than two or three injections in a calendar year is irresponsible. The speaker frames steroid injections as toxic and harmful, especially in already compromised patients.

Steroid injections are the devil, as far as I'm concerned. We are injecting your joint with a toxic substance that can help you with inflammation, but immediately starts damaging your joint. It immediately starts damaging the tissues around your joint, and it immediately starts damaging your metabolism. It has systemic effects. Ask a diabetic if we do more than two or three steroid injections in a calendar year. That's considered irresponsible, and yet we are doing it all the time. Basically, you're just dissolving your joint in crap, and that's typically done in a person who is less than optimally healthy anyway. So you're taking a person that's already compromised and you're giving them a medicine into the joint that not only damages the joint, but damages the rest of their health.
