Dr. Charles Mok explains how platelets stop bleeding by clumping at injury sites and releasing growth factors that heal tissue. PRP injections into a knee can reduce inflammation markers like ESR and CRP throughout the body, partly through stem-cell signaling.

The platelets, the part of the blood, as you know, that helps us stop bleeding. Not only does a platelet help us stop bleeding, but it also has a lot of factors that it releases into that local tissue that enhances local tissue healing. It's a massive anti inflammatory. There are studies that show that PRP injected into a knee joint actually has an effect on the system. It has a systemic anti inflammatory effect. We can see it in a sedreg, we can see it in our crp. We take those platelets, we highly concentrate them. Platelet is basically a circulating fragment of a cell that will go to an area of injury and it will clump up. It has adhesive characteristics, so they stick together. You got a lot of local factors that it will release into the tissues to help with healing and inflammation. But then also we have a stem cell signaling function in platelet.
