A parent explains the Spartan rule: kids earn screen time by completing chores, reading 15 minutes, and exercising first. Once they finish these tasks, they can ask for permission to use their phone, Xbox, or watch movies, but the parent has final say.

I think the other thing we did was we set up a rule, and you'll love this. This is a Spartan rule, and it's, you know, when the kids get the medal up in a Spartan race, it says earned, not given on the medal that they receive at the end of the race. And so we adopted that as our technology policy in our house. It's earned, not given. And so you just don't get to wake up and be on your phone. You don't get to go downstairs and play on your Xbox or, you know, watch a movie just because that's what you want to do. If you've done your chores, especially like on a Saturday, for example, have they done their chores? Have you read for 15 minutes, read a book, right? Have you, have you exercised and moved your body physically? And if you've done the things that you're supposed to do, then you can ask and request technology. Now you've earned it. And I'll say, sure, you can have some screen time. And then they, they make wise decisions.
