Charlotte Kemp argues that strategic foresight is not a soft skill, and that the hard/soft distinction is outdated. A technically brilliant employee with poor interpersonal skills costs organizations far more than training someone technically competent but personable.

Strategic foresight is not a soft skill, and I really despise that label. Traditional trainers have referred to hard skills that are technical and soft skills that are about internal competencies and emotional intelligence, but we know that many hard skills can be taught on the job, and with the developments of AI, these are evolving by the minute. But the other skills are where the risk really lies. A person with great technical skills but terrible personal skills will cost the company a great deal more than it would cost us to provide some additional technical training to a person with the right temperament and core skills. I'm Charlotte Kemp, and this is an extract from my recent book, Put the Future on the Agenda.
