"Can we split this up?" vs. $8M Closer

Christian Polk negotiates an $8 million investment with someone who wants to pay in installments instead of a lump sum. Polk argues that full commitment, not a cautious "dipping a toe" approach, drives better results. He reframes the deal from a money problem into a mindset problem and gets agreement to pay in full.

Could you split this into 4 chunks instead of one whole thing? I mean, potentially, man. Is there any particular reason why you ask?
I'd rather do that on some sort of payment plan versus digesting that into one. It's a huge pill to swallow.
Yeah, dude, I can understand what we would rather do, but let's just put money aside for a second. Is this something that we're just going to go ahead and move forward with?
I don't have control over my own business. It's just I like to take the reins and not have to rely on the— Evolvery. Fair enough, man.
When we're talking about the investment splitting up, man, is it that you just don't have the full investment or what's actually going on?
I have it. And you can understand I don't want to give it all at once. So you know what I mean? You wouldn't want to do that.
Depends, right? Depends on ultimately like what you want. Right? Can I make a suggestion, man? Because it's like you train people and do you feel like how somebody goes into something like their mentality is going to drastically impact the results they get? Their mentality matters. Honestly, it's one of the most important things because if you come in this thing with like, you know, not going all in, more like dipping our toe in the water, ultimately like what type of results do you feel like you're going to get?
So far, in some parts, in some regards, yeah.
Have you heard the phrase like skin in the game? Yeah, yeah, definitely. Because it's like often like, wouldn't you agree that people who go all in on something, they tend to just get better results? So ultimately right now it's like we're not deciding, okay, are we going to do this or we're not going to do this? Because we're like, we already know we're going to do this. We're just deciding like how we're going to do it and the type of entrepreneur we're going to be when we actually do it. Because there's really two options here. We can be the guy who doesn't go all in, like dips his toes, like wants to play it a little bit more safe, or we can be the guy who someone who puts some skin in the game and really puts their back against the wall and does everything they need to do to make sure they actually get their outcome? What person would you rather be?
I'd rather have some skin in the game. I guess that pressure is good for you.
Why do you want to do it?
I'd rather get what I want more, more if I could.
What if you don't, dude? What if we just dip our toe in the water, we don't go all in, and that affects how we come into this?
Subpar results. I know what you mean.
Do you want to be subpar, dude? No, no, I don't.
No, I don't want you to be subpar either.
So what do we have to do to make sure, like, hey, not only that we're doing this, that we're doing this to the best of our ability?
I, I, yeah, yeah, yeah. Do it in full mode. Yeah, get that pressure.
So that's what you feel like you need to do, dude. Just need a little bit of info from you and we can get you all set up. All right, sounds good. Doing it. Yeah.
