Hey everybody, we are jumping on for a quick Facebook Live. Um, this is Christie Hawkins. I'm the owner of The Social Easel, and I have you aimed down here because we are going to do a little rock painting today. I've got some leftover paint I just finished and decided it would be fun to jump on here and do a quick beach version of this painting. Not the full painting, but a little mini version of a beach painting on a rock. So how many of you have done rock painting before? I literally just went and found this in my backyard. I need to get some from out on our land so I have a little bit more variety, but I kind of love this shape. And you could even This one's got a flat bottom on it, so you could even set it up and do that. But it's really fun to do rock paintings and then hide them all over. Like, if you have kids or grandkids, take them out, do some rock painting. I'm just going to use regular craft paint, nothing fancy. If you want to seal it, you can, and I'll show you that in this video. Or you can just do some rock painting and then go out and hide them. And as people are walking, maybe on trails, out in nature, wherever they might find your rock, and it's just going to bring them a little bit of joy and happiness that day. So I'm gonna prop this up a little because I don't want to get paint on it. This is about as zoomed in as I can get you, so I'm sure I'll be having paint all over me by the end of this. We're just going to jump right into it. Again, you don't need anything fancy here. I just grabbed some craft paints. You can use DecoArt or whatever brand you want to. I've just got some different colors here, again, leftover from that painting that I just showed you. And we're just going to start with the background. I'm going to use smaller brushes since I'm painting on a much smaller surface. So I'm just going to start with some white and a little bit of this blue, and I'm going to kind of make like a baby blue color here for our sky. You know, another fun thing I thought about— I just, I can't remember who I saw it from. I actually think it was Reese Witherspoon. I can't remember what she was doing. She had painted seashells with all these different patterns, and they were so pretty. And I thought seashells would be a fun thing to do as a fun little project. Another thing I have left over from Florida that I could do is sand dollars. I remember when I was a kid and we used to get to go to Florida, not very much, but a few times when I was little, and it was my favorite thing to go in those souvenir shops and buy one of the painted sand dollars. But I thought it'd be fun to maybe paint like a little Florida sunset. On a sand dollar with you guys too. Yeah, just something fun to use up this leftover paint. So I'm gonna let that be my sky. I may even come up a little, we'll see. I don't want it to take up our whole rock here, so I'm just getting some of the darker blue Nothing too fancy so far. Yep, these are just craft paints. Then we're going to get some of this Ocean Breeze color. I love this color. I'm going to pick up some more of that blue with it because I want there to kind of be a transition there. Maybe add some white to this, make it a little bit lighter. So if you guys missed the beginning, I'm going to show you what kind of like our inspiration piece is for this. This is what I just painted with my group, and we're going to do like a mini little beach scene on our rock today. I did not do anything to the rock prior to painting it other than rinsing it off. I didn't even use soap. I just rinsed it and dried it, and that's it. All right, let me grab We're going to do the sand color now. And all you need to do the sand color is just any kind of brown paint and white. So you can see I've got just some brown paint here, and I'm just going to mix a little white with that until I get the color of sand that I want. And these do not need to be solid colors all the way across. You want some variation in there. Maybe I'm going to go a little darker, a little bit over here. Okay, so I'm just going to wipe off some of this. I'm going to grab some more of my ocean color here, maybe a little bit of white with it, and just kind of lightly go back over that brown. Just add some little streaks in there. And then I'm just gonna— and I'm just using an angled brush for this, you guys. I'm not even switching paintbrushes right now. So all I've done so far is just blend back and forth, just a very, very simple kind of beach scene. Nothing too extravagant. Anyone can do this. This is fun for kids. Let's just have some little waves crashing down here. I'm just kind of pouncing that brush on there. What do you guys think so far? I kind of like the way it's kind of going around the edge like that and rounds it off. I think this will be really pretty sitting out somewhere for someone to find. Paint these edges over here just a little bit. I'm not going to wrap it around all the way today while I'm on here with you guys, just so I'm not having to keep flipping it back and forth. But you kind of get a general idea of what I'm doing here. And then we're going to add a little palm tree on here. I think I'm going to have it just one little palm tree kind of come up around the edge right here. Now I need a tiny little brush for this. I'm I've just got a little liner brush here. All right, I'm going to get a little bit more black on here, and we're going to do a super dainty little palm tree. Well, maybe 2 because I did that little line there. So when you're using a thin brush, you still want to make sure you have plenty of paint in it, but you're just not pressing down super hard. And then I have a whole blog on palm trees, by the way, if you want to learn how to paint a palm tree. We're going to make this one super simple, but I kind of make like a little almost like star firework shape there. So we're going to start like this, and then we're just going to pull down. Try to hold this a little bit closer. Little itty bitty little lines. And I think I'm just going to leave this kind of like a silhouette of the palm tree instead of adding the greens and yellows to it. Remind anyone of Florida? I don't think God will mind just one bit that we're going to take his creation and add a little piece of art to it because He made us all creative to begin with. I think it makes him happy to see how we can take what he's given us and spread a little joy with it. You know what, that kind of looks like two palm trees together, so I'm just gonna pull another line over here. Maybe we have two kind of overlapping a little bit there. We can just make it whatever we want. But what I want you guys to see with this too is you don't need a ton of fancy detail It's just a fun little surprise that someone's going to find somewhere. I'm liking it. All right, what do you guys think? I think we're done. Just a fun little rock. I love the shape of this one. I think I'm gonna tuck it somewhere and just leave it, maybe propped up next to a little tree. Someone's gonna find it, and hopefully it's gonna brighten their day. You could do whatever on the back. I could paint, just carry the picture around on the back, or I could put a little message back here. Whatever you want. And another thing you could use for that, I was actually going to show you guys this. These are the Arteza. I've been, I've been saying Arteza this whole time. It's Arteza. If you don't want to do these palms with a brush look, I can just do this with a paint pen. Can add those lines with the paint pen on there too. If you're a little shaky with a brush, that's a great alternative. And they come in all different colors, also great for kids. If you wanted to seal this, because I know someone's going to ask that, you could do DecoArt— this is DecoArt Gloss. It's a glue sealer finish. It comes in different finishes. This one's gloss, so I could cover this whole thing in gloss once it's completely dry. Another thing you could do— this is brush-on glitter. I could cover the whole thing in this too, and it would add another protective kind of coating for that and add some glitter to it. I think maybe— what do you guys think? Should I put a little— some people are glitter, love glitter, and some people are anti-glitter. What if we put a little glitter in the ocean? I'm not going to paint the whole thing in it, but what if we did some little glitter in the ocean? Deciding I'm just gonna add a little reflection lines in here. Now I'm just gonna use this right out of the bottle because I don't want to waste it and put it on my palette because I'm barely going to use anything. And this is my absolute favorite glitter. It's been kind of hard to find, but it's called Craft Twinkles by DecoArt. But there are other brands. There's FolkArt and different, different ones that you can get. And maybe by adding the glitter to it, it'll capture someone's attention a little bit more too, just only in the water. Oh, I think that was a fun idea. I love that. What do you guys think? Is it good? Okay, that's it. Just a fun little 20-minute lesson with you guys for the day. Hopefully it inspires you to go spread some joy and happiness out there. Look at all this paint I have left. I could do about 20 rocks with that much paint. I got to do something else. All right, hope you guys had fun. All right, hope you guys had fun, and we will see you soon. Bye!
