A short YouTube monologue by Christina Haftman encouraging vegan home practices by replacing dairy with plant-based milks. The speaker lists many non-dairy milk options (soy, coconut, almond, cashew, hemp, oat, rice, hazelnut), discusses ethical problems in the dairy industry (calving, artificial insemination, separation of calves), and shares personal details: two brands of coconut milk present (Silk and So Delicious) and a simple banana-coconut smoothie recipe (banana, coconut milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla; optionally dates if using unsweetened milk). The video urges compassionate consumer choices and gradual transition toward more vegan habits.

Okay, so part of being vegan is maintaining a vegan home, a vegan kitchen, a vegan pantry and a vegan refrigerator. And part of that means no dairy products. So we only buy non dairy milks. And there are a lot of plant based milks to choose from. There is soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk, cashew milk, hemp seed milk, oat milk, milk, rice milk, hazelnut milk. Just a large variety of them. They're sweetened, unsweetened. Some of them have vanilla added. Just a wide variety that you might want to explore and taste test and see which ones you like. But these are cruelty free. They're a more compassionate choice for the conscious consumer that understands all the cruelty that goes on in the dairy industry and how the calves, the baby calves and the female cows are harmed. Every single day, 24 hours a day, they're kept perpetually pregnant through rough and repeated artificial insemination. They're pregnant all their life so that they can lactate. The only rightful recipient of cow milk is the baby calf. The newborn baby. Baby calves are stolen away from the mother. It creates a lot of physical and emotional distress. The cows are milked and all the milk is put into packaging and sold to, you know, humans. I mean, milk is something that you need during your developmental years, not decades into adulthood, and especially not at the cost of the amount of cruelty that's done to female cows and their baby calves. I mean, we, we should really honor and respect female reproductive physiology and not mechanize, you know, make a cow, make an animal into a machine with a profit motive of recurring revenue and cash flow. You know, it's just ethically problematic. You know, you can research it, do some research on YouTube, watch the videos and see if it doesn't touch your heart, see if it doesn' inspire you to take steps towards, you know, transitioning to something that's much more kinder to your body, to the animals and to the environment too. It is, it's really something else once you see what's going on. But anyway, in the refrigerator this weekend we have coconut milk. And Dan bought the silk coconut milk and I bought the so delicious brand. These are both really good. And he likes to drink it like straight in a glass and he likes to use it for his cereal and I use it to make smoothies. And we're going to make a banana smoothie a little bit later with bananas and coconut milk and a little bit of cinnamon and nutmeg and pure vanilla extract. And you can also put dates in there. But this milk is sweetened. So I don't think I'll use dates because the milk is sweetened in a bit. Bananas, when they're ripe, they're really sweet. So we don't want to overdo it with the sugar. But if you had an unsweetened milk, you might want to use some dates. But we sweeten naturally. We use non dairy milk, try to be compassionate in our choices and make somewhat of a difference and not contribute to the harm and the violence of factory farming and never want to direct our dollars to such activities. No, not here. So yeah, just making a video reminding you to think about what plant based milks you might like and to be vegan or be more vegan, a higher percentage vegan than you already are. Just baby steps. Take baby steps. None of us are born this way. We find out the information. Once we know better, we do better and do what feels right. I mean, there's a good balance between what tastes good and what actually is, you know, good to do in the world. So hopefully this will help you on your journey, wherever you are in your journey. And if this is the first vegan type of video that you're seeing, please, please Google it. Look on YouTube. There's lots of other people in the community making recipe video and lifestyle videos that will inspire you and give you ideas so that you can do it too. All right, be well. Thank you for watching.
