Christina Haftman (speaker) describes her Vitamix CIA Professional blender, purchased in April 2011, and documents that on/around March 1, 2017 the motor began to smell like burning and would not run properly. The blender is under a seven-year warranty; customer service agreed to replace or repair it and will provide prepaid shipping both ways. Christina notes she uses the blender several times a week, keeps it on the counter, and has promoted it on social media. She also shares practical best practices to preserve blender life: do not submerge the motor base in water, do not run it through the dishwasher, liquefy ingredients (liquid first) before adding greens/solids, and add protein powder last to avoid it collecting at the blade.

Hey there, it's Christina. I'm making this video about my Vitamix blender and I purchased my Vitamix blender. It was April 2011. The model that I have is the CIA professional. And that's not like CIA top secret. That is CIA as in the Culinary Institute of America. And it's a brushed nickel base and, and then it has one of those tall carafes. I can't remember how many ounces. I think 32 or maybe 64 ounces. But anyway, making this video on March 1, 2017. I've enjoyed this blender for all these years, almost six years. And it is not working right now. The motor's not working right. It's smelling like it's burning when I turn it on. So the gears or whatever's going on in there smells really like smoke, like it's gonna catch fire or something. So anyway, it's still under warranty. I had a really good positive experience with customer service. I told her what was going on. And this is a blender. Of course it's a high price blender because it's high quality and it has a seven year warranty. So it's still under warranty. And I keep it on my, you know, this isn't something that lives in a kitchen cabinet. It lives on the kitchen counter. I use it, I won't say daily, but several times a week. So it's really durable. I'm very surprised that this happened, but they are going to fix it or send me a new one and I'm getting ready to ship it back by ups. And yeah, over all these six years I've blogged about it, put countless pictures on Facebook and Twitter, tagged the brand. I'm not even an affiliate. I just want people to eat more healthy, drink healthier, get some recipe ideas and have better nutrition and better health because my family, most all of my family have had lifestyle diseases and have died young like two soon before you know, it was. Anyway, so I packaging up the blender, gonna send it back to them. They're going to give me a prepaid label. The shipping is going to be covered by them back and forth and I just have to find a box to put it in. I don't know if I want to give up my box because I like this box and when I move from place to place, I want to keep it in its original box. So going to find another box to ship it. But I just wanted to document this. I'm really surprised that it stopped working. Everybody told me that this blender will last you a lifetime. But the person on the phone reminded me, you know, and I don't think this happened. I didn't do this. But just reminded me of some good practices with the blender that you might not know. You never want to submerge it in water, you never want to run it through the dishwasher. And if you're using a protein powder, which many people do, you can add it to your smoothie, but make sure it's the final thing and not the first thing, apparently that messes with the blade. So if you put the protein powder in first. So when you make your smoothies, you want to. Well, the order of ingredients is always important because you want to. And sometimes you pulse a few together and then add more. You want to make sure that even this is a high power blender. Forget the horsepower, but it's a high power blender. You want to liquefy your smoothies and have the liquid go in first and then the greens or the pieces of fruit, dates, carrots, whatever. And then if you're doing a protein powder, make sure you add it last and add it into something that's already liquefied so it doesn't kind of get stuck in the blades on the bottom. So there are some best practices that people that are accustomed to a regular blender might not know, and this is probably on their site or in their user guide, just so that you can preserve and extend the life of your blender. So just a few reminders. I didn't do any of those things though. And it just. I guess I don't know, I don't know what happened. But I'm really glad that they're going to replace it for me because I love to make smoothies and green smoothies and even some soups in the wintertime. So so far I've had a good experience with Vitamix and I'm going to Post this on YouTube for other people to see. Thank you for watching.
