759 - Plateau or Self Sabotage? - 5 Minutes of Momentum

In this 5‑minute motivational episode, the host explains how business plateaus can signal self‑sabotage or a shift in focus. She defines a plateau as repeatedly hitting the same results and outlines a diagnostic framework: examine where the plateau occurs—retention, lead‑generation, visibility, or over‑reliance on nurture content. She then offers concrete refocusing tactics such as planting seed content, creating trial reels, launching lead magnets, and targeting colder audiences to break the cycle. The episode also explores internal self‑sabotage triggers, including visibility fears, nervous‑system responses (fatigue, illness, breath‑holding), and subconscious safety beliefs that cause entrepreneurs to pull back when growth feels unsafe. Finally, she promotes her Next Level Mastermind program, inviting listeners to join a waitlist for bonus coaching.

Welcome to 5 Minutes of Momentum. These episodes are a short 5-minute burst of inspiration, motivation, and massive action. If you need that little kick up the butt to get things moving and to inspire you to take massive action, then every single Thursday I'll be sending you through a 5-minute episode to download, digest, and implement to finish your week off strong. Are you ready to get started? Let's go. Welcome back to 5 Minutes of Momentum. I wanna talk to you today about plateauing or self-sabotage. So having a plateau happen in your business can sometimes be a little frustrating, and it can be something that can be an indicator of self-sabotage, or it could be realizing that your focus has been put in a different place. So what we wanna do is really start to look at where the plateau has happened, and that will help us really determine where it's come from. Okay. Ideally, what is a plateau? A plateau is something where you recognize that you have hit the same results in some area of your business. We maybe come up against it multiple times, and if it's happening multiple times, then I would probably look at the identity side of things, and I'd look at the self-sabotage side of things because that's most likely where it's coming from. Now, sometimes a plateau can happen when there has been a cost of living crisis or an issue with the focus of attention being shifted to the economy, right? Fuel prices, like things like that obviously can happen. But what you want to be identifying is, did it happen because of my fear, of my focus, of my focus being on people think and are going to stop spending, or is it actually something else going on within the business? So we want to look at a few different things to start to determine where the plateau— what actually caused the plateau, or whether it was actually you sabotaging your results. Okay. So some of the things that I would look at would be where is the plateau happening? Where is it being caused? What's it being caused by? Is it the— is it retention? Are you not retaining your clients? Is it the lead gen has stopped or slowed and maybe we need to reevaluate our lead gen strategy? Is it your visibility strategy? Maybe you've stopped showing up in the way that you previously have shown up, right? So I go through different growth phases where I have had really focused attention on cold outreach and cold audiences. Whereas we can get stuck in a plateau because maybe we have been too focused on nurture content. And especially if you have an audience on your social media and you rely on that to grow your business, if you've been really just focusing on nurture. So if you've just been nurturing, so like educational content or just adding lots of value in being able to create content where people already know you, maybe sharing your story, sharing your journey and things like that. And your emails maybe haven't really been selling anything and you've just been focused on maintaining then that's probably what's caused the plateau. You maybe need to shift your focus to be like, what are your different goals that you need to bring into play? And what are the strategies you're going to put in place in order to create that result? Right? So it could be that. So if you are— or it could be if you have been doing harvest content, is what I call it in my containers, is when we're selling effectively. And if you have been selling, but you've been selling to the same audience for too long of a period of time, that can also cause a plateau, right? Because people are being fatigued by your sales messaging because you're just selling to existing people. right? So either too many people in your audience have bought and the rest of the people aren't ready to buy just yet. And so we actually need to focus on colder audiences to start selling to people who don't know you or are new to your ecosystem. Okay. So then we need to refocus our attention on lead gen. So then we go, okay, what content do I need to create that's actually going to speak to more of a cold audience for people who are— don't know who I am and for people who are experiencing a certain problem that I want to help them solve, how can I refocus my attention there? So I would focus on trial reels and starting to get to more of wider, colder audience. And so maybe your focus needs to shift there. So are you not doing enough plant content, is what I call it, where you're planting the seed, you're attracting people with relatable content? And the same thing, or lead gen, like when was the last time you created a lead generation? Did you, have you created a lead magnet? Do you, have you done any other types of things in the previous, in your, have you done other things in your business where you've really focused on just a colder audience? So I know I've previously done like events that are really open to the wider public and really activating lead gen versus just selling. Because if you just keep, again, keep selling to the same audience, you're going to hit a plateau. Okay. So we look at those things, retention. Then we look at where, what's been happening. Have I been focusing too much on nurture? Then we go back to selling. If we've been selling and it's actually not working anymore, then we go back to plant, which is cold audience and focus on lead gen. Right. So wherever you are right now, you can pretty much take from that and be like, okay, now I need, no, now I know where I'm going to need to focus my attention. That then brings me to the self-sabotage side, sides of things. If you know what you should be doing and you aren't actually doing it, then that's most likely self-sabotage. If you keep hitting the same plateau and you keep pushing up against a similar income number or number of people that you serve or opportunities or certain things happening within your business where it's the same thing month in, month out, then I would start to actually question whether beyond that feels scary or unsafe. Because that's when we can start to plateau because we are sabotaging our next level. So this is where I see visibility fears show up. This is where I see people worrying about whether they'll be able to handle their next level of responsibility. So next level of numbers of people that you serve, or the next level of visibility, next level of income, next level of money management. We start to actually push up against these numbers, but when they start to get close to happening, or maybe you see a positive thing happening within your business, and then you shrink back down and hide because your nervous system is like, oh, I don't know if I'll be able to handle that. And that's where the self-sabotage kicks in. It's like a thermostat, right? It's getting too hot, getting too hot in here. It's time to turn the aircon on and cool things down a bit. So our self-sabotage can show up from an internal acknowledgement that I don't feel safe to move towards this thing, or this thing is happening. Oh my God, how am I going to handle it? Come back down, right? And so you want to pay attention to your nervous system responses to things that are happening within your business because your body will tell you your body will start to constrict. Your body will start to hold your breath more. Your body will start to have certain responses. So it could be that you get tired when things start actually working, or you get sick, right? That's again, another really interesting nervous system response where it's, oh, maybe it's okay for you to rest when you're sick, but if you're not sick, then it's not okay for you to rest. And so when things start actually happening in your business, you get sick. So subconsciously it's like, oh, you should take a step back, you're not well. And so it's justified, right? But if that happens again and again, then you wanna ask yourself, Why? Why is that happening? What am I telling myself? What's the internal belief system that's causing me to feel like it's not safe for me to work towards this next level of expansion? So either way, if it's a plateau with happening within your numbers, within your business, you wanna look at those first things first, retention, your lead gen, your sales, whether you're selling to the same audience and whether you're stuck in nurture. And if it's not any of those things, then we wanna look at the internal and actually look at the self-sabotaging behaviors that could be causing could be causing this, this response to things happening within your business. I hope you found this super helpful. I do a lot of this deep work with my clients inside Next Level Mastermind, and I'm about to open the doors for it.
