Grounding Practice

Christine J. Gold guides a grounding practice using box breathing: inhale 4 counts, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4. She explains how conscious breathing shifts your nervous system from fear to calm, and positions you as the shaman of your own energy.

I am Christine. I'm with 24 Karat Healing, and today we have— well, I mean, it's the start of a week, and really I like to start my weeks on Sunday, but since it is Monday, which, you know, a lot of things are starting again— school, maybe a new job, maybe a new career. Maybe, you know, a new relationship, whatever it is. As September is just around the corner, it's all about new, new beginnings, new outlook, new feelings, new thoughts. And, you know, thought is matter and matter is energy. So what are you putting out into the field? I mean, Einstein proved it, guys, right? So —And I want to talk about grounding. I know that being out in nature is the fastest way to ground and to release anything that is not yours. Any toxicity, any drama, maybe it's our need to control everything, maybe we're annoyed, whatever it is. You've got to get connected back to yourself, back to the body, back to spirit, back to breath, back to the earth. And that is achieved through nature. I mean, that's why we're here. We're all remembering this. So today, and it's kind of a cloudy day here, kind of windy, there's lots going on. Again, those are distractions. It's really how you react, and rather, you know, you respond, not react. All right, so I just want to start with a box breath. I was reminded to go back to that recently with so many challenges that have been going on around me and within my own life. But I mean, these are opportunities right, for us to solve, to look at differently. So I just invite you— I'm going to start with a box breath. And essentially, a box breath is 4 breaths in, holding for 4 breaths, letting go for 4 breaths, breathing out, and then holding at the bottom for 4. All right. And it is very breezy here today, so that is indicative of we're clearing away things that no longer serve us, and wind does that very well, right? I mean, Mother Nature, she resets everything when things seem out of balance. All right, so let's start. So you can watch the image, you can close your eyes, you can go right to the breath if you'd like, and just, just listen to this.
Just imagine this, just feel this.
So really, we're starting something, we're centering.
All right, and breathing in, 1, 2, 3, 4, holding, 1, 2, 3, 4. Letting out, breathing out, 1, 2, 3, 4. And holding at the bottom, 2, 3, 4. And breathing in, 2, 3, 4. Holding, 1, 2, 3, 4. Letting go. 1, 2, 3, 4. Holding at the bottom. 1, 2, 3, 4. Breathing in. 1, 2, 3, 4. Holding. 1, 2, 3, 4. Breathing out, 1, 2, 3, 4, and holding, 1, 2, 3, 4.
Now I'm going to do this on my own for a couple rounds, so just follow along. All right, so if you do that, I'd say at least 4 times, 4 rounds, and maybe you can do 2 rounds to start with, and maybe just even 1 round. It depends on what's going on. Connecting to the breath transforms everything. It literally flips the switch to whatever you're in, which in many cases is fear and worry to letting go and just relaxing. And finally, you know, able to breathe properly, because when we're in fight-flight, reacting and freezing and sometimes running away— I guess that's a point of flight— but our breath gets shorter. We just focus on, you know, the nail on the forehead, the problem. Whereas connecting back to the breath and being in that sympathetic state in the body, right, making it cycle in and cycle out, becoming the shaman of your own energy, it's amazing how it will transform. All right, well, let me know how you felt. If this is something you would like to do on a weekly basis together, comment below.
