In this video, the speaker recounts a personal experience with a PayPal e‑check scam. After receiving an email from PayPal indicating a request to transfer funds from the speaker’s bank to their PayPal account—something the speaker never initiated—they contacted PayPal multiple times until an investigation was opened. PayPal discovered an unauthorized user named "Santos Santos" had been added to the account. Simultaneously, the speaker’s bank froze the transactions, and within 24 hours the two fraudulent transfers totaling $1,200 were reversed. The speaker then closed the PayPal account, decided to stop storing passwords online, and will use alternative methods for receiving international payments. They reported the incident to the Canadian Fraud Centre and local police, noting a lack of public discussion about this type of scam.

If you use PayPal, listen up. I just went through something very scary, and I don't know if it's really on the radar. There's so many scams going on in the world right now, and here's the latest one. And maybe it's been around for a while, but I received an email and it was from PayPal letting me know that on my request by e-check to transfer funds from my bank account into my PayPal account. And I'm like, I don't do that. I've had my PayPal account for almost 20 years. I have never done that, even in my business. So I'm like, uh-uh. So I contacted PayPal. I had to contact them 4 different times until I found somebody that said, I will start an investigation for you. We will hold everything. We're going to change your passwords. Anyways, then they kept asking, does family or anybody else have as an authorized user? And I'm like, no, no, no. So I went back in and looked around, and there was somebody there that was added as a user with the name, first name Santos, last name Santos. Oh no, that's not suspicious at all. So I let them know, they saw that, they removed that person. As well, I contacted my bank at the same time, and this happened in 24 hours, even though in the email it said this transfer may take up to June 4th. So that would be a week from now. Anyways. I sent my forms into the bank to have everything frozen and investigated, and that was only done 4 hours ago. My money is now back in my account. That was $1,200, 2 separate transactions. So what I'm doing now, I'm closing my PayPal account, and I'm actually going to be even more mindful about all my passwords They're not going to be stored on Google. They're not going to be stored anywhere. They're going to be stored on paper. I am going to be very mindful because people send me money internationally as well. It's just going to have to be done a different way. I am no longer using PayPal. They did not support me very well. This seems to be happening more and more. I reported it to the Canadian Fraud Centre. I'm now reporting this to the local police. Because when I went and looked online, there didn't seem to be very many people talking about this.
