Reclaim Your Second Childhood at Any Age (2024)

In this 2024 YouTube talk, Christine J. Gold addresses the Soul Healers community about the widespread disconnection adults feel from their inner child and why reclaiming that playful, creative part of themselves—what she calls a "second childhood"—is essential for wellbeing. She outlines the psychological and physiological benefits of play (increased dopamine, reduced stress, lower inflammation, enhanced intuition) and acknowledges that trauma or grief can make reconnecting difficult. Gold then offers a menu of concrete, low‑barrier activities to spark inner‑child joy: movement on trampolines or rebounders, classic games like tag and hopscotch, art and music (coloring, painting, ceramics, singing), spontaneous dress‑up, random day trips, animal interaction, revisiting childhood hobbies, acting classes, travel, and shared experiences with loved ones. She shares personal anecdotes (roller‑coaster day, acting gigs, water fasts) to illustrate transformation. Throughout she encourages community participation—comments, challenges, future detox groups, and peer support—while urging parents to model play for their children. The talk ends with a call to action to share experiences, spread the video, and join upcoming momentum‑building initiatives such as a 48‑hour water‑fast detox group.

Christine J Gold. Hey everybody, I was just tuning into that and let me tell you, music is so transformational. You can totally bring back the joy of childhood no matter how old you are, and I'll show you how. Hey, beautiful souls of the Soul Healers Community. I'm Christine J Gold, and here we go again. Did you know that a whopping 80% of adults feel disconnected from their inner child? Why? Why? Well, let's think about it for a second. When was the last time you really let loose like I just did, embrace that playful spirit and reflect on your own experiences. If you can't remember, oh my goodness, it's time to dig in, okay? So what does it mean to reclaim your second childhood? Well, it's all about tapping back into that sense of wonder, creativity, and joy we had as kids. Do you remember joy? Now I know that I do deal with, you know, there's a lot of trauma, there's a lot of people healing. I have some people that don't remember their childhoods because that was a way to shut down and feel safe. I, I understand that, but there's got to be a point where you remember something, okay? It's super important that our well-being and creativity, no matter how old we are, And age is just a number, people. I am 50 and 3/4. I am rapidly ready to hit 51. And as I said in another group, this is my second best half. I'm super excited. So embracing your inner child can seriously boost your happiness, your dopamine, right? That's the, that's the natural stuff we want, not all the external stuff, not the addictions, not the, the other stuff, reducing stress, keeping you out of inflammation, keeping you out of hypervigilance, keeping you out of fight, flight, fawn, and freeze. And even, and let me tell you, when you're having fun and relaxing, whatever it is, laughing, you will have new ideas will be unleashed in your life. Those roadblocks that you had, those 'I don't know what to do here, I feel stuck,' all of a sudden, whoosh, something shifts, something moves. You get that download from the divine, from your guides, angels, and loved ones, your natural, by the way, intuition, intuitive self, and that's how you access that creativity, that joy, that happiness. So we're going to talk about the problem, and I get it. As adults, we often feel this enormous pressure, you know, like we've got the weight of the world on us. We're hunched over. Life is just— wow, suck the life out of me— that we have to act serious or to grow up. I got that a lot. 'Grow up.' I was the oldest, so guess what? I was the caregiver. And we put away our childish things. Or, 'You're 12, you're still playing with Barbies?' You know, that judgmental BS. Or, 'Why are boys playing with Barbies? Oh no, that's not what boys do.' We got to stop doing that. We get caught up in the grind which leads to stress and burnout. And literally, I will throw in arthritis, like your body just stiffens up, right? Um, when was the last time you felt truly playful? That's what we need to reclaim. That's what we want to reclaim. It's like we put our inner child on the back burner. We'll get to it later. It's not that cool. I have to keep up with everybody else. I have to do what's right. I have to do what I'm told. We need to recognize that it's okay to be silly, to laugh, to enjoy life without all the weight of the adult responsibilities weighing us down. Anybody else feeling that? Or maybe that was you in the past and now you're like, wow, I'm really shifting into this. I'm feeling this. I'm claiming this. I'm knowing this. It is just becoming ingrained in who I am, mind, body, and spirit, right? I want to hear from you. Let me know. It can't just be me. I mean, now, you know, if you ever say that, you know it's not just you, okay? That's just another ego roadblock to make you feel like it's just you and there's something wrong with you. There's nothing wrong with you. Alright, so how do we start reconnecting with the inner child? There are so many fun ways to do this. First up, let's talk about play. Ever thought about jumping on a trampoline? And actually, you know, those are fun, those are great, but there's rebounders too. I'm not sure if you're familiar with rebounders, but they say 5 minutes a day will shift your energy, and it's also good for your lymphatic system to get things moving, to detox, destress, it shifts your state of mind. When was the last time you played tag? Remember that? Tag, you're it! Or Simon Says or hopscotch. Sometimes I'll see hopscotch like kids have, or they've drawn, you know, beautiful pictures with their chalk, and I'll participate. Why not? So just getting up, and that's why I'm standing, will change your whole mood. It does, it does. And I will keep saying this, it's not just the inner stuff, but you are in control of this, your mind, right? Nobody else. And creativity is a huge part of the journey. So grab some crayons. I love coloring. Sketch something, even try your hand at painting. And I, I believe, I don't remember the artist's name, But he taught everyone on the panel how to draw a horse, just the horse head, and it was all based on basic shapes. So as he's doing it and you're filling in the details, you're like, I can draw a horse, at least the horse head. I did it. Whereas many of us will say, oh, I'm not very good at drawing. I'm not, you know, I was told I was not good. See, you were shutting down the possibility that you are. You just have to try. How about painting? I like to paint. I like to give it a shot. Ceramics, jewelry making, singing, dancing. There's so many ways, and it doesn't have to be perfect. I think it was on The Amazing Race Canada. I watched that last night because I like— I love travel, and I love competition and excitement and relationships. And his t-shirt said, "Perfection is exhausting." Yes, yes, it is. So stop. And let's not forget about spontaneity, you know. I don't know about you, but as I was getting ready for this, I turned the music on, I was dancing. I'm like, okay, I'm going to do something different with my hair, just playing. Like, when's the last time you played dress-up, whatever that is? So random day trips. I love when I just go to some random town. Sometimes they'll have parades or whatever, but just to check it out, check out the old hotels, you know, that have been there since 1910, or try something you've never done before. Embrace those little moments of joy that remind you of being a kid. So Here's a little story for you. Who doesn't love stories? A few months back, I decided to spend a Saturday at an amusement park, just me and my friends. We rode roller coasters, we ate cotton candy, and we screamed like kids. You know what? That day completely transformed my outlook on life. I mean, I love roller coasters. I mean, I, I live for that. I felt lighter, more energetic, and filled with joy. It was a reminder that reconnecting with our inner child leads to profound benefits in our everyday lives. Gosh, yeah, I mean, I think it was the Joker in the Batman movie. He would say, "Why so serious?" Why do you think he drew that smile? I mean, there was more other things going on, but it always stayed with me. Why so serious? Why so dull? It is also filled with joy and laughter, right? We have to remember those moments. And yes, There are people that are going through grief. We're all grieving, going through loss, going through something. I mean, it's— I'm on a lot of the— there's a lot of Facebook groups like Mama for Mamas. I believe that's a local charity in Calgary. There's also Ask Calgary on Facebook. Now that's an interesting place to spend some time. But a lot of posts I'm seeing are about leaving abusive situations, leaving narcissists, not having enough money to feed your kids, pay the bills, losing their job, trying to get back into the workforce after raising children. It's real. This is real. This is, you know, this is no joke. And when you're caught up in that, you cannot see your way out, like you say, through the trees. You can't see anything. Oh gosh, that reminds me of The Hobbit movie I watched the other day. Ah, I, you know, that just inspired me. That, that really— I love that magical stuff, like The NeverEnding Story, The Dark Crystal, um, you know, Fraggle Rock. Come on now, like in The Muppets. Like, those are fun. Those were imagination. Jim Henson was the, the forefront of imagination, and he just went for it no matter what anybody said or thought, because it mattered to him. That's all that mattered, for his heart to sing, right? So they were in this forest, and it was so dark, um, and they, they were— they— yeah, it was hours. They spent hours chasing and looking and coming back to the same place until, uh, the Hobbit decided to climb the tree all the way up through the leaves, he could finally breathe, and then he could see where they were going. Do you see, do you see where I'm going with this? That's what I mean. It's being the higher perspective, like an eagle, like a hawk, because once you gain perspective and you can see where you're going, and you're not in this the whole time, everything opens up, everything expands. So here is some ways to tap in to that inner child, reclaiming, yes, your second childhood. I have a question though first. What is something so silly, so ridiculous or embarrassing that you would never do? Comment below, I want to know, I want to know. For me, it was, uh, gosh, it's something as simple as just dancing randomly with people watching. Do more of that. The more you do that, it's like the song, you, you dance just because, you dance because who cares who's watching, right? It's what matters to you, what lights you up. So some other ways to tap in: animals. Just yesterday, when I go out for a walk, I always see people walking their dogs, and I was coming through the pathway and I saw this cute little fluffy thing, and he stops, and then you can tell the owner's like, come on, let's go, and the dog is like, no, wait, I need to see her, I need to speak with her. So finally I come up to this adorable dog and she's like, oh my goodness, normally this dog is afraid of everybody and barks. And I said, oh, um, well, I do a lot of— I work with a lot of animals, I do a lot of pet sitting and such. And she goes, oh my goodness, that, that makes a lot of sense. And then she continued to tell me her name was Coco, but her name used to be Coco Chanel before she rescued her. And she came with a full outfit. And I'm like, wow, okay. And she goes, but that's just not who I am, we're not like that. I said, oh, I said, yeah, salt of the earth, I get it, I get it. I'm not concerned about brands either, believe me. Uh, so yeah, animals. I mean, I'm always on the lookout for birds, for signs, for bees, for dragonflies, for ladybugs. I mean, I think it was on the other day, I saw in a group post Someone was asking, what's the deal with all these ladybugs? And I— everyone's like, they're amazing at eating, you know, aphids. They're great for your garden. They're actually called ladybirds, and they're also a sign of luck and abundance and joy. So let's not talk ourselves out of those things, right? Another tip: art and music. I mean, we just talked about art. I had music playing. Rediscovering hobbies. Now this is huge, whether it's painting, playing an instrument, building model kits, diving back into hobbies you loved as a child is incredibly fulfilling. Let me know what your hobbies are, what you're doing. There were a couple people that commented they went on a vacation with their adult son. That's amazing, that's something I want to do with my sons as well. And just to be on the beach and relax and do nothing, right? Have, you know, the service come around all the time asking if we need more drinks. There's also the piece learning a new language. I've seen people post or taking a dance class or learning how to knit or sew or whatever it is, crocheting. There's a lot of that because it's also very relaxing. For myself, I have started— I'm taking acting classes, something I did in junior high and elementary. I was in a lot of plays, and I've actually done some background work recently in the last couple months for a few Netflix shows. So it's exciting, it's fun, um, just doing something different, um, and just Being curious and going for it. Next one, spending time with loved ones. So sharing activities, maybe, you know, grandkids, right? They always said, "If I knew grandkids were this much fun, I would have them first," right? Family and friends can create wonderful memories and strengthen your relationships. As long as you're safe and it's not a place where you feel triggered or wounded, I get it, you have to mitigate that stuff. I just talked about it, travel and exploration, visiting new places, exploring your local area. I know when I'm in a new area, I like supporting all the local businesses, the coffee shops, the restaurants, the markets, the artists, the artisans. I love farmers markets. Who doesn't love a good market, right? It gives you fresh perspective. It actually changes, takes you out of that worry that stress state. As you're walking and you're looking and you're seeing, you're like, oh, this— wow— expanding possibilities. And I will add that travel is healing as well. And many of you know that I sold everything in 2021 to travel, and I'm still doing it. So let's wrap things up. My beautiful, beautiful souls, it's clear that embracing our playful side changes everything. I, I won't even put can in there. It does. I am living proof. I've seen many of my clients shift into their inner child, remembering their dreams, reclaiming who they are, starting a second career like their own business, becoming entrepreneurs. Which really we all are. So I, I talked about how many of us feel disconnected from their inner child and why it's essential to reclaim that joy. And I will say, parents, please, I know life is stressful, but please encourage play. Please encourage kids to be who they want to be. Please encourage just to have more fun. You are the model. You lead by example, right? So remember, it's never too late to let go of your inhibitions, your mind, and embrace playfulness with your heart, with your soul. Once again, life is meant to be enjoyed, so let's get back to that. So before I go, I want to hear from you. Share your own experiences with reconnecting to your inner child in the comments below. And if you enjoyed this video, share, share this out. Maybe tag someone that needs to see it, or maybe they become an inner child buddy, you know, you kind of play off each other. And check out my other content on creativity and play, and let's keep this journey going together. I'm excited I know we're shifting into like new seasons and new energy and all of that. I mean, I have done energy updates for the last 5 years. I feel after 900 videos that this is definitely more important to inspire someone to make a shift right now. And let me tell you, you don't need to be any more motivation, okay? What you need is momentum. And I want to talk more about detox in the future, and we might even start a detox group where we're doing a 48-hour water fasting. I don't know if you've ever done anything like that, but it's incredibly powerful. And here's the, the key: it's really about the mind. I've done a few water fasts, and it's definitely your mind that will talk you out of it. And then you'll keep a food journal, like a detox journal, and find out where your triggers are with food and where do they come from. And I will say mine came from my mom. When I come home from school, there would be food if I was having a, a rough time, right? It was the, the mom connection. So, or many times she was working 3 jobs and I was creating all that stuff for myself. So that was a way to soothe myself. And I know I'm not the only one out there. So if you'd like me to talk about that more, comment below and we'll start a separate video and group and all of that, maybe a challenge of some kind. And we can meet privately to support each other because that's where change happens. We are all walking each other home. I'm sending you lots of love. Take care and let the healing begin. Bye!
