How do I create balance in my life?

Chrystal Hurst explains balance through "ground zero," non-negotiable daily habits like exercise, Scripture, and hydration that anchor everything else. Use the "big rocks" framework: prioritize what matters most, then fill the gaps. You can't do everything at once, so pick what fits this season and defer the rest.

Hi, it's another Ask Me Anything. Tamika wants to know, how do you maintain a healthy, balanced schedule for your family life, your physical enrichment, your hobbies, your blogging, and your spiritual growth? Girl, I got tired just reading your question. It does sound like a lot, doesn't it? Listen, I don't maintain it all the time very well, but I do work at doing that. Here's what I've come to understand. There is such a thing for me in my life called ground zero. That means the place at which I can build the rest of my life on a firm foundation. If I'm planning my meals for my family, that's ground zero. If I'm getting exercise consistently, that's ground zero. If I'm spending time in the word of God, that's ground zero. If I could look my husband in the eye and know that we're communicating well, that's ground zero. If my kids feel like I'm paying them some kind of attention, that's ground zero. If I am, uh, hydrated, that is ground zero. There are some basic things in my life, and when those things are happening, then I just decide what else do I have room for. And the minute when ground zero stops happening— I'm not I'm not planning meals, we're running through fast food, I'm not drinking enough water, me and my husband are like this, my kids are like, "You're not listening to me," that I need to scale it back and then add back the extra things as there's room for them. Do you want to understand how to have room in your life for all the things? Here's the key: there's not room in your life for all the things. So you put the big rocks in first, the most important things in first, and then you see what little rocks there is still space for. And know this: that while we women can do all things, we were never designed to do all things in the same season. So free yourself up, pick and choose what you're gonna do now, and save some stuff for another season. You got some time. Do you have a question?
