The Power Of Intuition

Chrystal Evans Hurst teaches that intuition is spiritual discernment from the Holy Spirit, distinct from logical thinking. She shares stories of intuitive warnings that protected her family, including a trip to California where she felt a "stop sign" that kept her there when her mother's cancer returned, and a moment at a sea-lion show when she knew to hold her son close.

Hi, my name is Chrystal Evans Hurst, and if you're joining me here for the first time, I'm glad you're here. I go live every Monday in the Inner Circle, which is a membership that I have for people who want to support what I do and at varying levels support the work in themselves they want to do too. I would love to give you more information about the Inner Circle and have you find out more about that. You can do that by going to chrystalhurtz.com/innercircle. Also, whether you're on YouTube or Facebook, I would like for you to subscribe and like and follow my Facebook page. That way when I go live or when I share videos like this one, you'll be sure to find out and to get notified. I'm sharing a video every week, live on Monday with the Inner Circle and then replayed, um, with a premiere on Sunday night. Where you can join other people who are watching together with you. All right, so let's get into it. I want to talk this morning, this evening, whenever you're watching, I want to talk about your intuition. All right, y'all. So I looked it up in the dictionary and I'm looking at the definition right now. Intuition says it's the ability to understand something immediately without the need for conscious reasoning. It's a thing that one knows or considers likely from an instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning. In other places, it's defined as the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and interference. So another word for intuition is discernment, awareness, having a sense of something, Perceptivity, intuitiveness, sensitivity, or instinct. So maybe some of those words you've experienced before. You just knew something, or maybe if you're super churchy, you're like, I just discerned in my spirit. Or maybe people have called you super perceptive or intuitive, or you just got good instinct. Um, intuition can be represented in all of those things, but here is why I was reminded about the power of intuition recently. So I'm currently in California with my husband. My kids are all at camp this week, and we decided to take the opportunity to jump on a plane and to, uh, American miles for the win, uh, to jump on a plane and to make our way out to Cali. Um, we love it here. We love the weather, we love the sun, we love the food. And so anytime I have an opportunity to come to California and, uh, visit the sun and the ocean. I come and then my husband, when he can, jumps on the plane with me. So we're here hanging out, hence the white background minus the yellow chair. And I, I left myself open. I left the option open for me to change my mind. We booked the flight. We made our plans. I registered for that upgrade because if we're going to travel to California, yes, if y'all have room in first class, by all means. I was talking to my aunt on Thursday and she said, are you going to California? I said, as of right now. She said, what do you mean? What do you mean? I said, well, I reserve the right to change my mind. I said, I just, it's Father's Day weekend, y'all. My dad is in his 70s. Of course, we just lost our mom. I'm a little paranoid about spending every holiday with him, like not wanting to miss one. But I also have a husband who would love to go to California. So I told my husband, which he's so great because he gave me total permission to not come to California if I felt like I needed to be at home for Father's Day. And I said, no, I'll let you know if I need to stay. And he said, how will you know? I said, I'll just, I'll just know. How do you know you'll just know? Because I've learned to listen to my intuition. So here's how I know I would know. There was a time before in 2019 where we were supposed to come to California and then we were going to cancel the trip because in 3 weeks we were supposed to come to California to be at an event in California where my dad was receiving an award. And then we were supposed to go from there to Missouri because my children had had a basketball national championships. Then we were supposed to go from there to a birthday party for my grandfather in August. I'm sorry, in March. He turned 90 in August. And I was just— my head was exploding with, I want to be there for my dad's award. I want to go to my kids' national basketball championships. And of course, I don't want to miss the 90th birthday celebration. But y'all, this was in a matter of 3 weeks. It was nuts. So my mother said to me, you don't need to come to California. It's okay. Your dad's going to get an award. It's going to be 5 minutes. He'll be on stage for 5 minutes. Don't, because it's expensive. The hotel was expensive. Don't do that. It's okay. Like you'll be there for other things. And I said, okay. And then I went to go cancel the flight and everything inside of me tightened up. So best way I can explain it, I just felt a stop sign. I had not prayed about it. I had not wrestled with it. I didn't think about it. She told me, don't come. He's going to be on stage for 5 minutes. We were about to spend a boatload of money that we had not planned to spend on California, then Missouri, then Baltimore. And I went to go cancel the flight. And I felt stop. I felt a stop. I felt a no. Like it was just like I sat down to do it and there was a stop sign. So I just said, "Okay, let me just sit with it." I couldn't, you know. So then my mother said, "Did you cancel your flight?" I said, "No." I don't know if I'm supposed to cancel the flight. And she said, Chrystal Hurst, really, it's okay. And I said, yeah, I know. I know that you're telling me it's okay. I'll, I just, let me sit with it for a second. And the no got louder and louder and louder and louder. And then I finally just called her and I said, yeah, I'm not supposed to cancel that flight. I said, I think I'm just supposed to be there, Mom. It's a lifetime award. And I just think we're supposed to be there. We went to California to a convention where my dad was receiving a lifetime award. You know, he's been on the radio for 40 years, 30, 40 years. And after he got off that stage, And the whole time we're sitting at this table as a family and we're looking at him and my mother. My mother looks cool, calm, and collected, and my father looks like he's in pain. And he told us that after we finished that event that we were going to— he wanted to talk to us. So we went to the room after the event, all of us, including my daughter and her son and her husband, rather. And my dad proceeds to tell us that our mother's cancer has come back. She didn't know that when she told me not to come. I didn't know that when I felt like I was supposed to come. Now, do I believe that the Holy Spirit played a role in that? Yes, absolutely. But do I also believe that all things are spiritual and that we have this intuition because we are designed to live forever? Regardless of whether you decide where you decide to live, you are designed to live forever, and your body is only your physical house. And there are all kinds of things happening in spiritual places, and your intuition is your spiritual self connecting. Yes, all those things, I truly believe that. But there are some things that, you know, when non-believers say, you know, they just knew something, or their gut told them something, and they they don't know Jesus. And you know that, and there's this spectrum, right, of I know Jesus and the Holy Spirit gives me extra information and he ties me into what's happening in spiritual places in a way that I cannot be connected without the Holy Spirit. Because people can be connected spiritually to the wrong spiritual places as well. Do you understand? Um, The Holy Spirit adds to that. He influences that. He brings you to greater places of knowledge because of what's happening in heavenly places. Let me look up this scripture real quick for y'all. Ephesians 1:20 says that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places. And we talk about inviting Jesus into our heart. Well, you do know where Jesus is, right? He's sitting at the right hand of the Father. Heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 says, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. So there's all kinds of spiritual things going on, and your connection to Jesus is what helps you to decipher between the forces that are at work in spiritual places that are for you and against you. God is a spirit. John 4:24 says, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. You want to know God, but you want to know God with your spirit too. There are so many things about spiritual places that I don't think we're attentive to 2 Corinthians 5:1, for we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have, meaning you are not your tent, a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. So you are a spiritual creature. Your intuition is designed to give you information that your brain cannot process. Your brain gets in the way because your brain is trying to perceive what it can perceive, information that it can decode from your senses, right? What you can make sense of, what you can touch and feel, what you hear. It's pulling in information and then it wants to decode and understand. Um, your spirit is different. Your spirit is different. Your spirit doesn't need to understand it. So that's why you can have the desire to do something and then talk yourself out of it. Do you understand? You can have the ability to know something and then talk yourself out of it, which is what a lot of us do, right? There are parts of your brain that are designed— if you've ever been in the scientific realm, you may have psychological realm, you may have heard of like your limbic brain. It's your lizard brain, it's your animal brain. It is the, the base of your brain where even animals have this. It's a sense of, uh, where your sense of fear— if your hair stands up on your arms, it's why, it's why a lizard may not see you, but as soon as you walk up behind it, if it's crawling along the side of your house, it just gets still, because it can sense you. It's the reason why you can sense danger. There is a part of your brain that is designed to protect you, and it senses danger. But a lot of times it's sensing danger where there is none, right? It just— because it's sensing the danger that your brain can compute. I shouldn't jump out of this plane because I'm going to fall to my death. But that's not true if you have a parachute. That, that does not equal truth. Or I don't want to be at home in the dark by myself because scary things happen when I'm at home in the dark by myself, right? So you watch a scary movie, you've given your brain information that says, or you've watched NCIS or Law and Order: SVU. So your brain has gotten all this information about all the things that can go wrong when you enter the door of your apartment by yourself. So you turn off the lights in the apartment, it's dark. Okay, now your brain is feeding your fear mechanism what it can understand. These are all the things that can happen in the dark, right? And so you have this part of your brain that wants to interpret for you. The problem is your intuition and your brain are different. Your intuition and your mind are different. And your God-given intuition, the part of you that can sense, that has discernment, that has awareness, that has perceptivity, uh, intuitiveness, instinct, the part of your, the part of yourself that is sensitive and can absorb information that your brain cannot process. The two are often at odds with each other, and we start thinking about and stirring up and drumming up fears of things that we're imagining. 2 Corinthians 10:3 says, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. So what does that tell us? You're gonna have imaginations. Your mind is going to run away with you. It's going to do things because That's its job to calculate, you know what I mean? It's its job to figure out. It's the job of your mind to process. It has a job to do. It's supposed to do it, but sometimes it runs away from you with all the information that it has taken in, and it doesn't operate from the pure origin of your God-given intuition or from the influence of the Holy Spirit on your spirit. So you have to pull from, pull down the overthinking, the imagination. You have to cast it down. You have to pull it down, pull it from out there and say, and look at it and say, I am overthinking this. I am imagining this. I am dreaming this up. I read a book that put this in my mind. I saw a movie that put this in my mind. This is not happening to me. But then you have to also know what it is to take those thoughts and bring them down and hold them captive. Romans 12:2 talks about renewing your mind, taking the thoughts, cleaning them, renewing them, refreshing them, and then deciding whether or not they belong in your brain. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. For we walk in the flesh. You see this, we see this constant separation of your flesh and your spirit. For we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. Okay. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, they're not of the flesh, but they're mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. 2 Corinthians was written by Paul to the church at Corinth, and he was helping them to avoid wrong thinking from false teachers who were harassing believers in that pagan city. Now, he was far from them, but he was like, I need to tell you how the wrong thinking being given to you from outside of you is interfering with your faith. It's interfering with the work of the Holy Spirit in you. And so believers who were weak were easily swayed by false doctrine, just what they were hearing, what was going in their ears, what was going to be becoming a part of their thinking process. And he was like, no, no, no, no, no. There's a separation between your flesh and the spirit, and the spirit of God is in you. He reminds them at the beginning of this chapter, 2 Corinthians 10, that Christ dwells within And you need to check all the things that you're hearing from the outside of you against what you know about Christ. So this is a believer situation and this is a non-believer situation. Okay? God can influence, Christ can influence your thinking. He can influence your feeling. He can influence your sense of this is right and this is wrong. But before Christ came into your life, you still had intuition. There was a God-given thing that God gave all of us, but he gave an extra dose or two to women that tells you when something's just not right. That's how you can know miles from your children that something's just not right. There have been other times where I just knew something. So we were in Hawaii, um, 10 years ago, no, 12 years ago. We were at Hawaii's version of SeaWorld, which is not San Antonio or Florida's version of SeaWorld. Hawaii's version. And Kanan, my second son, kept running off. So we're at, uh, this, in this like bleacher seating, not stadium seating, bleacher seating, and we're there for a walrus show, a sea lion show. And there's a, you know, we're sitting down about 4 bleachers up, and then there's this, this kind of fence. It's a fence. It's not a high wall. And there's this fence, and then you go down the pathway in between the bleachers and the fence. There's this pathway. And down the pathway, there's where you go to get some hot dogs, popcorn, drinks. And after the fence, there's this— there are these bushes. So he kept trying to run away from me, and I just kept thinking, this is a strange place. I wouldn't want him to get lost. So, but I would let him run for a little bit, and then, you know, I'd get up and go catch him and bring him back. And we kind of kept doing this, Right. But I had this deep-seated, it was more, I felt more, I felt like you have to keep him close. And I thought it was because I don't want somebody ill intent with ill intent to grab him and take him. We're in Hawaii, a whole nother state, thousands and thousands of miles from home. And That's what I thought the feeling was. Like, I knew that I needed to keep an eye on him. Of course, he's my kid, but I also have this angst, like, make sure you are— he doesn't get far enough where you can not catch him. So I kept getting up and running and bringing him back and get him. So we were in the bleachers waiting for the show to start. He needed to run. It's okay. I let him run a little bit and it would take me like 4 or 5 steps. I'd get up and go get him. But I had this, mm, and then he ran. And I let him go just a little bit further than I had let him go before. And right where the end of that fence met the bushes, he was able to fit through. And he ran through those bushes, around the side, and up onto the stage of the sea lions and was running towards the water. And right at that moment, my brother who was coming from down the walkway from getting some popcorn and some drink. He's coming this way while I'm running this way with a kid running through the middle. He leaps over the fence and runs and is chasing my son. And right as my son gets to the edge of the walrus sea lion stage, he grabs him. 'Cause I was just standing there going, I don't know what to do. Like, do I dive into the water where the sea lions are and both of us die? Like, I have other kids. I mean, I would just, for a second, I just was, I just was looking at this happen like a movie playing out. And I was thinking, I can't, I can't get to him. I can't get to him fast enough. I'm not going to get to him fast enough. I have my brother. It was just crazy. But the whole time I was sitting in those bleachers, the whole time, I knew. And what I was thinking, 'cause the mind is trying to process, what I was thinking I should have been afraid of was not the reason. Just like when I knew that I was supposed to go to California, what I was thinking, I don't wanna miss my dad's award, that was not the reason. Often we know what we can't express. Like even now, my hairs are standing on the back of my head head. I have— I say often, the girls in the office have heard me say this, that sometimes I have a tingling feeling. I'll say, my body's tingling. And there's a difference between my natural excitement or fear about something and my physical body engaging with something that my spirit knows. And I'll say, ooh, my body's tingling. That's one of the signs for me that what I'm talking about or what I'm thinking is a thing. And it's different than excitement or fear. It's an internal bubbling over. This has happened in my work as well. So I knew in 2018 that I wanted to have an in-person retreat. I knew it, but I just had a hard time landing the plane. And I knew where I wanted to do it, and they didn't have a weekend that was going to accommodate us, and I just didn't know what to do. So out of the blue, one of the other people who had booked that venue canceled, or they moved their weekend, which left it open for us for the exact weekend that I knew we were supposed to have it on. So I knew I was supposed to do it, and the weekend wasn't available. The only weekend that would work, it wasn't available. So when I knew that was the weekend and they kept saying, we can do this weekend or we can do this weekend, we can. And I was like, no, it's this weekend. I know that it's this weekend. I just didn't know how to reconcile that with the fact that that weekend wasn't available. So the other person moved last year, 2020. Online event. Have I ever done it before? Nope. Found a weekend. We're supposed to do it. I know we're supposed to do it. And then the thought, the mind lines up after the knowing. That's what I want you to understand. It's not that you're supposed to leave your brain on the table or in the back seat. It's just, it can't always lead. Okay, 1 Corinthians 2:16 says, for who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. And in order to have the mind of Christ, you need to receive instructions that come from the word, because in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. Isaiah 43: 13 says, who has measured the spirit of the Lord, or what man shows him his counsel? The mind of Christ stands in sharp contrast to the wisdom of man. This is from 1 Corinthians chapter 2, and I'm reading from a website called GotQuestions. In fact, let me just share my screen with you. The mind of Christ stands in sharp contrast to the wisdom of man. The mind of Christ involves wisdom from God, once hidden, but now revealed. The mind of Christ is given to believers through the Spirit of God. The mind of Christ cannot be understood by those without the Spirit. And the mind of Christ gives believers discernment in spiritual matters. Remember, one of the words for intuition is discernment. So you have your God-given intuition because you are a person. You have your leveled up intuition because you are a woman. You have your triple D triple, quadruple intuition that is influenced by the Spirit of God. And then because our minds get in the way, because we want to think about what we can process or that we can, um, something that we can understand through our 5 senses. Then when you have the mind of Christ, so the mind, your physical mind won't get in the way. Do you see how powerful you can be when you don't have to operate on what you see. Your intuition is the first step to know that you are not from here. The fact that you can plug in and know something that your brain cannot know because you have not yet experienced it through your 5 senses, that tells you you are not from here. So quit being plugged in to only the things that you can sense with your mind. Your mind, your physical mind, gets in the way and actually tells you not to take the risk. It talks you out of believing what you've seen because it only wants to engage in what it can know. But you are not your flesh. You are not your brain. You are not your mind. You are a spirit, a soul who will live forever, who is impacted every day with spiritual information. But are you listening? I Googled how to use your intuition. That's what I Googled, how to use your Intuition. And listen at the titles. Listen to the titles. Actually, I'll share my screen. Let me show you the titles that I found. 18 Ways to Develop and Strengthen Your Intuition. How to Tap into Your Intuition. Intuition: What Is It, How to Tell, and How to Use It. Fortune.com: When and How to Use Your Intuition at Work. 5 Simple Ways to Access Your Intuition as a Highly Sensitive— I'm assuming that says person. How to develop— this is cosmopolitan.com— how to develop and strengthen your intuition. Inc.com, how to properly use your intuition to grow your business. When I went online last year, that was intuition. That was knee-jerk, y'all. I didn't pray about it. I didn't, you know, I just said, let's go to YouTube. Let's do it. I'm going to go live every day. I just feel like that's the right thing I need to do. The hair stood up on the back of my neck. Even now, as I talk about it, I feel a chill going down my spine. I was supposed to get online. I knew it. So that wasn't the plan, y'all. That wasn't the plan. The plan was just get online because you just know you're supposed to get online. But from that, everything else grew. Everything else grew. Satan is going to try everything in his power power. He's going to use all of his power to discount— he wants you to discount yours, your power, your knowledge, your intuition, the spirit's guidance. And he wants to put your mind in front as a block to what your spirit can know and what your spirit can do. Which is why he uses to— oh, this is why he uses tools like fear, and he uses tools like knowledge, and he uses tools like insecurity, and he uses tools like other people who tell you what you can't do. Oh, and who you cannot be. He uses tools like information. He uses tools like circumstances. He uses tools like messaging from the world that seeks to convince you that you cannot do, that you cannot be, that you cannot move forward in power. He uses distraction. See, that Inc. article said something that it doesn't even realize that it said. It said you're constantly taking in information. Listen, Wall Street and Fifth Avenue are constantly giving you information, and that is not an accident. Marketing is not an accident. Marketing is the way that the world uses the psychological facts of marketing to put something in front of you enough time so that when it comes time to make a decision, you are influenced with all of the information that you've been getting. That's why advertisers spend so much money to be in commercials. And now y'all, they're on your phones where when you've been talking about something or Googling something, it starts serving up the advertisements in your feed on Facebook or on Instagram. Your phones are listening because they want to, to focus the marketing, to cultivate the marketing, to create the marketing. For you, to give you information that will influence the way that you think, so that when it's time to make a decision, the information in your mind impacts that decision. Do you think if the marketing people on Fifth Avenue and the marketing people for these companies on Wall Street have figured out how to get in your head, that Satan doesn't know how to do that? He knows how to get in your head, and you walk around not attentive to the fact that you are living your life based on what's in your head, and your mind gets in the way. My sons have all ziplined at this camp we love as a family. And every time it— the first time has come for each one of my children, all 5. They climb up and they stand up there and they're harnessed in. And the exhilaration of the jump and the zip down the line is in front of them. And do you know what stops them every time? 'Every time' is their mind. And we stand below saying, 'Just jump!' That's what we say. We stand below saying, 'Just jump! Jump! Just jump!' Because the only way to get out of your mind When you know you've done the work to be harnessed in— Holy Spirit is the protector and the keeper of all things for me. When you know you've done all the things, you've got on the helmet of salvation, I'm protected. Should my physical body come to a, a massive impactful event, I'm protected. You know, they've checked the harnesses, they've checked the bolts, they've checked them. When you know that people have gone before you Mom is standing on the ground, do it, you'll be all right. When everybody's cheering you on and you wanted to do it when you were on the ground, you wanted to fly. I wanted to be the person that operates according to the intuition. I want to be the person that God can use with his intention and with the Holy Spirit's guidance. I want to be the person that operates in my 10x spiritual guidance and information with having the mind of Christ. I want to be that person. I want to soar. And then you climb up and your mind gets in the way. So we tell them, just jump, just jump, because the only way that you're going to know the power of flight, the only way that you're going to know what it is to soar, is to jump. And then once you've jumped, then you know. Any person who's done the zipline will tell the person who's doing the zipline for the first time, the first time it's hard because your brain is saying, I'm too far from the ground, I'm not gonna live, this is not gonna hold me. Now here's the fun thing. Every single time after that, that you go to the top of the zipline, you'll still feel the butterflies. You'll still feel it, but you've done it before. So this is me telling you, I've done it before. I have used my intuition before. I know what it is to have God 10x something that my mind is not interrupting and that my body knows, my spirit knows. And I've seen what happens when you use your brain. Yeah, use your brain. But once you've used your brain and you know something deep down, and in my case, my spine starts tingling. I can't shake it when I'm walking according to the word, feeding my mind, my soul, the word of God. So I know that Christ is at work in my life, and I still think about something off the chain, left field, that's me standing at the top of the zipline again. And as nervous as I will feel, I know what it feels like to stand at the top of something that I just need to jump off and do. You have intuition. If you're a girl and you're watching this, you've got, you've got extra. God gave you extra. If you're a Christian and you have this, then you have exponential intuition. And then if you have the mind of Christ, you're limitless. You're limitless in what God can do through you based on how you will listen and respond and how he can trust you because you're thinking what he's thinking. I look at my children, especially when they're in trouble and when they've done something that they're not supposed to do or they've said something that they shouldn't have said. I say, "Ah-huh." I just stare at them and they stare back at me. And then I say, "What am I gonna say?" And my oldest son will say, "Don't talk to your brother like that." And then I'll say, "And what else will I say?" He'll say, "Our family is a place where everybody should know kindness and feel safe." And what else am I going to say? That my words have the power of life and death in them, and I need to be careful of what comes out of my mouth. And then I look at him and say, And what else am I going to say? And he says, you're not going to allow one of your children to degrade, intimidate, or to be mean to another one of your children. And what else am I going to say? That you will not allow this. Like, I literally don't even have to tell my children what I would say because they have the mind of their mom. When you have the mind of Christ, for better or for worse, you know what he's going to say. So Here's to you and your intuition. Listen. Read your Bible, pray, and listen. Have fun with your friends, love your family, but make time to listen. Take a walk, enjoy your headphones, but every now and then take them out and listen. Lay in the bed some mornings earlier, get up a little a little earlier than what you need to get up, but don't get out of the bed. Just lay there and listen. Turn off your TV, get off your phone, and listen. And you might be surprised at what God in you is trying to say. Here's to your intuition.
