Chrystal Hurst says five to fifteen minutes of prayer or devotional time in the morning can shift your entire day. She acknowledges the obstacles: rushing, no time, hard to wake up. Starting with God, she argues, rewires your mind against the constant hurry that goes against how God wants you to live.

there are simply a few intentional routines that can make everything in your life feel different. Um, when you, for example, start the day with a devotional, with prayer, um, with God, it changes the tenor of your day. And many people will say, well, I just don't have time, or I'm always rushing, or I can't get up in the morning. And I understand that sometimes it's difficult to set a new rhythm and a routine, and there's no judgment here. But what I'm going to tell you is, if you develop a time with God in the morning as a part of your morning rhythm, whether it's 5 minutes or 15 minutes, it changes the way you start your day. So if you start every day running and end every day passing out, I can tell you right now, I'm speaking on behalf of God, this is not the way he wants you to live.
