As I've been talking about a lot recently, the ability to catch and shoot is maybe the most valuable skill in basketball. As it stands right now, at the college level, teams shoot jump shots at over 50% of their possessions and on average, between 30 to 40% of every team's offense is catch and shoot jump shots. So knowing that to become as valuable a player as possible, it's important that you can hit these catch and shoot shots at a high percentage. This workout, we're going to target just that will have a heavy focus on footwork and being efficient as well as your balance, your ability to identify the rim quickly. And then we'll get some reps up in these different catch and shoot situations. Let's get into it. We're going to start off with perfection form shooting, where every rep that you take has got to be a swish and it's also got to feel perfect to you. So for the first part of this, you're going to shoot at that first hash mark close to the basket. All of your makes are going to be swishes. The once you get the set amount, you'll move back to the next hash mark and you can choose whether or not you want to jump on these ones. Once you get those set amount of makes, you're going to move back to the free throw line. The same thing. Have to be perfect, have to be switches. I love perfection form shooting because it forces you to be perfect. It puts you in a position where you have to make sure that every single shot is on point. Everything has to feel great, and it sets a great tone for you moving forward. Now we're going to get into off the catch footwork series. So you're going to shoot a variety of different shots right here, targeting your footwork, you're going to start off facing the basket and you're going to step left right into your shot. Once you get those set amount of reps, you're going to do the same thing, except now stepping right left into your shot. Once you finish those reps, you do the same thing, except now you're going to be taking a side angle, starting at the elbow, still stepping left, right into that shot and then right left coming from the other side. After you finish those, we're going to move into hop footwork. So we'll go back to facing the basket. And now we'll hop off the left foot, landing on two into your shot. Once you get those set amount of reps, we'll do the same thing. Hopping off the right foot, landing on two into the shot, and then once we finish that, we'll go back to that side angle, hopping off of that inside foot, landing on two into your shot, and then switching to the other side when you finish that. Even though this drill seems so basic, having great efficient footwork is such a big key to being a great shooter. And the more comfortable you become with it, the better you're going to be and the better foundation you're going to lay for yourself moving forward. Oftentimes when we shoot, especially by ourselves, every pass that we give ourselves seems to be perfect. And obviously the better the pass, the easier it's going to be to make the shot. So right here we're going to work on bad pass warm up shooting, where I'm going to deliberately throw the ball out to the side before I grab the ball, bring it to my body and then up into my shot. So working on the ability to have your feet set and then receive a pass that might not be straight into your shooting pocket yet, still being able to bring it there and then go up into your shot, now we'll work the forwards backwards shooting drill. You'll start off at a three point line. You're going to self toss the ball to yourself towards the free throw line as you sprint into that jump shot. After you get the set amount of makes for that variation, you'll start a couple feet in front of the free throw line. You'll self toss the ball to yourself as you backpedal, catch it, go immediately into that jump shot, and you're going to repeat this series from all five spots, working your ability to hit a jump shot on the move, which is an area that a lot of players overlook. So right here for weighted relocation slides, working our ability to be able to shoot the ball coming off of a slide, you're going to start at one elbow with the ball in front of you, slide over to that opposite elbow going into that catch and shoot. You'll alternate which direction you go until you get the set amount of makes and then you repeat the same series from the wing, and then when you finish that, you go to the opposite way and do the same thing. Continuing on with this relocation series, we're going to move back to the three point line and this time we're going to go self toss into relocation. So I'll start up going slot to slot or just elbow extended outside the three point line where I'll toss the ball across to the opposite slot, slide, catch and shoot, do the same thing, go the opposite direction until I get the Set amount of makes and then I'll repeat that series on both wings. If you guys have watched any of my videos on shooting, then you know how big a fan I am of the relocation shot. And in my opinion, it may be the most important shot to be able to hit in the game of basketball. Next, we're going to work the score fast drill, which is going to force us to be accountable when it comes to identifying the rim early, using efficient footwork, and then being able to be on balance quickly. When your momentum is working against you. You're going to start off under the basket and you're going to toss the ball out to the free throw line. And for the first variation, you're going using 1, 2 footwork, either going left right or right left. Your goal is to take as straight of an angle as possible to the basketball, so it's going to force you to take really efficient steps to get into your shot. After you get the setup out of mace, going one, two, both directions, you'll switch it and you'll go hop both directions off of your left foot and then off of your right foot as well. After you finish that, you'll repeat the same series from the three point line. And we're going to end with this two shot finisher series where you're going to start on the wing. You're going to set up a chair or another object, could even be a cone, and you're going to bounce the ball to the inside of the chair as you curl around for a pin down catch and shoot three. The second shot, you'll start on the opposite side of the chair. You'll bounce the ball going below the chair, catch it for a screen or flare going towards the outside. You alternate these two shots until you get the set amount of makes to complete the drill. If you guys can make these shots consistently, then you're going to be a very, very valuable player to your team. All these drills are also included inside the Elite Shooter system which I just released this week. Not only do we target these kind of shots, but we work on shots coming off of the dribble, creating separation, coming off of off ball action, like screens, working shots in transition, and even more. And there's also an entire library of step by step walkthrough videos to help you fix your form and become a more consistent shooter. And so if you guys like this workout, you'll definitely want to check that out as well. The link for that is going to be in my description below. Make sure you drop a like and subscribe if you're new. Talk to you guys soon. Peace.
