FULL Creativity Ball Handling & Shooting Workout

Ethan Khoza runs through ball-handling and shooting drills built around game-speed decision-making. He emphasizes treating basketball as problem-solving: vary your speed and height, imagine defenders, pick the right move in real time. Drills move from freestyle dribbling through full-court sequences into spot shooting and off-the-dribble creative shots.

As many of you guys have heard me say before, basketball is a game of solving problems. So the better you are at adapting and being able to overcome any situation that you face, the better you're going to be when it's game time and there's a defender across from you who's trying to stop you from scoring. And that's why I think that adding an element of creativity into your workouts is a very helpful thing to do for you to get the most out of your workouts. If you watch any of the best scorers on offense and any of the incredible things they do, more than likely they haven't worked on that exact move or that exact exact shot that they took. Chances are they've worked on similar moves in similar situations, but they're able to piece things together so well that no matter what the situation calls for, they're able to adapt. So as important as it is to be able to handle the basketball, to be able to hit shots, to be able to have moves, it's even more important that you're able to pick the right tool in the toolbox for the situation that calls for it. This workout is going to focus primarily on ball handling and shooting as well. And I want you to make sure that you're really imagining that you're playing in a game, that you have a defender on you and, and that you enjoy yourself and have fun going game speed while you go through this workout. Let's get into it. To start off this workout, we're going to go with this quick rep freestyle series. Going to go half court and back. For the first variation, you're going to go one pound dribble into any sort of crossover variation that you want to do. And you're going to try and get as many reps as you can. The baseline to half court and back. For the next variation, do the same thing, except this time there's going to be no dribbles in between. So you're going to go straight to that crossover variation, half court and back. Next we're going to go with this freestyle slow to fast double move series. You're going to take one or two raised up, relaxed dribbles before dropping into a low, explosive double combo. Very important here that you focus on changing your speed and changing your height. Next we'll go with this full court, Lane Delane freestyle. You're going to start in the baseline. You're going to go back and forth Lane Delane all the way down the court, being creative with the moves that you use. This is an opportunity for you to have fun and be able to put together some moves that you might not normally put together. Now we're going to go back to working on these double moves. With these raised up, two slides into a created double move. You're going to start nice and high raised up, and you're going to slide with two dribbles. Then immediately you're going to get low and explosive into a double combo, then back up, raised two slides back into that double combo. You should imagine yourself really trying to shift your defender with that double combo. So make sure when you go it's low explosive, and you're really selling that move. We're going to continue with a similar series right here, except this time we're going to be facing forwards again. So starting at the baseline, you're going to go with any two float dribbles that you want to do. So you can go with a crossover float between the legs, float behind the back, float. You're going to do two of them. Then immediately you'll drop them to a low and explosive triple combo. For the next variation, do the same thing, except this time you're going to go into a double combo. You want to make sure on those floats that you get up nice and relaxed, Making sure that we emphasize that change of speed when you get explosive into those combos. And you'll repeat that with both hands. To finish out the ball handling part of this workout, we're going to go with one on one man press shadow ball. To start this off, you'll throw the ball off the backboard, simulating a rebound, and. And then it's just you and that one defender. You're imagining that that defender is pressing you full court, and you have to work your change of speed and direction well enough that you can beat them up the floor. Now we'll move on to the shooting part of our workout. To get warmed up, we're going to go with 5, 4, 3 shooting. You can choose to do this from either three spots around the perimeter, both wings and the top. Or you can do all five spots, baselines, wings and the top. At each spot, you're going to make five shots from close range. Then you're going to make four shots for the mid range. Then you're going to make three shots from three. And these don't necessarily have to be in a row, though. If you want to challenge yourself, you can force yourself to have to make them in a row. Next, we'll go with off the catch creative shooting. For this, you'll go around the perimeter shooting game situation Shots at game speed off the catch as you see, a lot of my shots are coming off of relocations, some are coming off pin downs either in the mid range or from three and some are even coming off of flares. It doesn't really matter, just make sure that you're going game speed and really imagining yourself in that situation as you go through it and we'll end it with off the dribble creative shooting. For this you'll do the same thing as the off the catch except now all of your shots are coming off the dribble. This allows you to be a little bit more creative creative with what you do and the amount of dribbles that you use. Some of my shots come off of jabs or shot face, other times out of isolation situations. So again be creative and imagine yourself in that situation in the game.
