One of the most crucial skills in basketball is the ability to play off the ball. A large focus in every player's training is playing on the ball and being able to have the ball in their hands. But for the majority of the games that you play in, the ball is not going to be in your hands most of the time. On any given team, you may have one or two players who are ball dominant, but then the rest of the players are probably going to get most of their opportunities moving without the ball. So it's important that you're able to be effective in these situations. This workout focuses on a few different aspects of school wearing while moving without the ball, so that when you get in these game situations, you ultimately have the skills to be able to execute. Let's get into it. We're going to start off with perfection form shooting. You're going to start between the first hash marks with normal form shooting. But you want to focus on making these reps perfect. So what that means is that everything has to feel good and it also has to be a switch for the rep to count. Once you get the set amount of makes from that hash mark, you move back to the second hash marks and go from there. And you can choose to jump on these ones if you want to. And then once you finish that out, you go to the free throw line. Do the same thing. Next we'll go into our shooting footwork warm up. You're going to approach this going from the elbow towards the middle. You're going to start with your top foot ahead of your bottom foot. For the first variation, you'll toss the ball to yourself and you're going to step one, two into your jump shot. After you complete those reps, we're going to work this off of a hop. So you're going to hop off of your inside foot, landing on two, getting to that shot. And once you complete the set amount of reps, you'll switch and go from the opposite direction. Being able to finish off with two feet is so important when it comes to playing off the ball. So next we'll go into our two foot finishing series. So we're going to start off with a self toss and then one dribble into a jump stop layup. After you finish those reps, you do the same thing, except this time you're going to add a shot fake in there, being patient, letting that defender fly by before going up to the finish and then adding on to that, you're going to go into that step through for the finish on the opposite Side of the rim. In the final variation, out of the jump stop is going to be a shot fake and then a fake on the step through and then you're going to spin back and finish on the right side of the room. Next we're going to go into our stride stop series. So you're going to be stepping outside foot, then inside foot going into these two foot finishes. For the first variation you'll go one, two, straight up into that layup. For the second variation, you'll add in a pump fake, letting that defender fly by, being patient. Then you finish it. For the next one you'll step outside inside, selling that punk fig again. And this time you'll spin back around and step through to the left side for the finish. Now we're going to go with a stride stop, but going across the paint this time. So in this clip I'm going to my left side but I'm still stepping outside inside. So now it's going to be left right on that step and I'm going to go right up into my layup for the first variation. For the next variation, you're stepping outside inside, but then selling that pump fake before spinning back and finishing over the front of the rim or on the opposite side here. Next we're going to go with our extension to finishes. So we're still going across the lane right here. I'm going to start with a pound, my right hand before I cross over towards my left. And then I'm going to be stepping inside foot, outside foot before extending and finishing on the opposite side of the rim right here. And we'll end the finishing series off for just a freestyle finish where you can be creative right here so you can throw it off of a self toss and and they get into it with no dribbles. You can choose to go with the dribble right here, but switch off between working your pivots, working your outside foot inside footsteps, your extension finishes. Overall, just a chance to be creative. Imagine that there's a defender you're finishing around or there's some game situation that you're in and just have fun with it. So now we're going to get into our pin down series. We're going to work three different reads coming off of a pin down. The first one's going to be a tight curl, which is the read you're going to go to when your defender is trailing you. Typically this is going to lead to an opportunity for you to get all the way to the basket to finish. So, so you'll Set up a chair to simulate the screen. Like you see here. You're going to toss the ball to yourself as you set up the screen by taking a step inwards. You're going to tight curl around the screen, getting downhill, either with no dribbles or one dribble into a finish. And you want to go to some of those two foot finishes that we've been working on beforehand, being creative and switching it up. The next re we'll work on is the fade re. So this is the read you'll go to when your defender plays under the screen and tries to cheat. This is going to create either a three point shot for you or an opportunity for you to attack a closeout or hit your teammate who slipped the screen. So now you'll bounce the ball before you set up the defender for the screen. That defender goes under, so you flare directly out to that wing going into that catch and shoot three. Next we'll stimulate attacking that closeout. Same thing, you'll bounce that ball, set up your defender, but then this time they switch or they recover well and you attack to that baseline, either getting into a two foot finish around the rim or getting into a pull up jump shot along the baseline. The next read we're going to work on is the long curl read. This is the read you're going to go to when that defender gets hit by the screen, or if there's a miscommunication that leaves you open, puts you in a position to catch the ball in the perimeter. So you'll set that defender up, toss the ball out along the perimeter, catch it and go right into your three for that first variation. For the next variation, we're gonna work a long curl into a dribble handoff. So I'm setting up my defender again. I'm gonna add another chair in there to stimulate that handoff for me. And when I get to that handoff, I'm gonna play it however I want. So I might go right into a three or I might go into a pull up to finish it off. Here we're gonna go into a shadow ball free play session where you're literally gonna imagine there's defense on the floor and you're just gonna switch up the reads. You're going to. So one rep you might go with that tight curl next to you, you go with the dribble handoff and maybe next you go with the flare. You keep switching it up, keep playing it differently. Truly imagine that there's a defender who's playing you and being creative with the shots and the finishes that you get into. It's very rare in the game of basketball that you're going to shoot the same shot over and over in the context of an actual game. So now we're going to get into a series where we're going to go through four different shots. For the first shot, you're going to start at the elbow and we're going to simulate a pin down coming from elbow for you to get a catch and shoot three from the top of the key. Shot number two is going to be a screen and pop three. You're going to balance this ball behind you as you set this screen and then you're going to pop right to the ball for the catch and shoot three. For the third shot, you're going to relocate from the corner to the wing for a catch and shoot three. And then for the fourth shot, you're going to go with that screen and pop and this time you're going to attack the closeout. Getting into any sort of two drill, pull up that you want. Forcing yourself to have to make different kind of shots in a row is a great way to translate your shooting ability from practice into games when that's actually going to be a requirement. So that's why I love adding series into a workout like this. And to finish it out, we're going to go with our relocation shooting where we're relocating back and forth from corner to wing. This is working. Your ability to be able to hit a catch and shoot three coming off of a driving kick and a relocation, which is one of the most important skills in all of basketball.
