FULL Scoring Workout (The Situations You NEED To Master - 0.5 Decisions)

Ethan Khoza teaches the 0.5 decision: choosing your scoring move within half a second of catching the ball. The workout drills catch-and-shoot threes, pull-ups off fakes, and two-foot finishes, building toward game-speed reps where you decide before the ball arrives.

So I just did a film breakdown explaining how important it is to be able to make 0.5 decisions. If you guys didn't see that video, make sure you go check that out as soon as you're done watching this and it's going to explain all this stuff in more depth. But right now, I'll give you guys a quick run through of what point five decisions are, and then I'll give you guys a workout you can use to be able to work on the physical skills and shots you need to make. A 0.5 decision is essentially just a decision that you make within half a second of catching the basketball. Now, typically in a situation like this, that decision is either going to be to shoot the ball, to drive, to give a shot fake and then drive, to give a jab and then drive, or to quickly pass the ball. As you see in all these clips, the defense is at its most vulnerable if you make this quick decision because they have to close out to you coming from help, meaning that their momentum is moving towards you and you can take advantage of them. Being a great scorer is not just about knowing how to score, but also knowing when to score and when the best opportunities are going to be for you to execute. So this workout is all about helping you to be able to execute these skills. You'll work on the ability to score out of a shot fake or a jab, being able to score off, the quick rip through, and of course the most important skill with all of this, which is being able to hit the catch and shoot three. We'll start off the workout with some ball handling and transition into some two foot finishing. And of course this is called 0.5 decisions, meaning that there's a decision making element that has to be included within this. So if you want this to translate, you need to make sure that you're playing basketball and working these situations so you understand when to make what decision. You can watch my film breakdowns talking about this stuff. You can do the drills, but there's no substitute for actually being in a game situation, having to make that decision and then hit the shot. In my film breakdown video, I gave you guys a couple options you can use if you have some teammates or some friends you can play with. But if you don't, just make sure you're playing as much as you can. Let's get into it. We're gonna start off with some dribble manipulations to get ourselves warmed up and target our ball control a little bit. So you set up a coin in front of you like you see right here, we're gonna start off with the same hand. So we'll go right hand over and back these manipulations. Then we'll switch up and we'll go left hand. Next we'll go triple manipulation into a crossover. So I'm gonna go 1, 2, 3, crossover. 1, 2, 3, crossover, repeated, as you see right there. Next we'll do the same thing except between the legs. And then we'll go behind the back. And next we'll have some doubles. So I'm going to go triple manipulation into a between the legs crossover. I'm going to keep that ball in my right hand to start off for the set amount of reps. Once I get those reps, I'll switch and go left hand. Next we'll go same thing but between. Between scissor. And then we'll go between behind. Now we're going to go with this full court lean line freestyle. So, as you see, I'm starting on under the basket where the lane line starts. And I'm going with a creative freestyle. Getting across the lane every time. This is a chance to be creative, push yourself. Don't be afraid to mess up as you see me do here. This is where you really start to bridge the gap between your ball handling feeling good in practice and it feeling good in games. Being able to finish off of two feet is very important for a few reasons, but especially when you have to face a health defender, which a lot of times you're going to see. Being able to finish off with two feet gives you way more options. The first variation in this series is just a normal jump stop, making sure your feet hit at the same time, you're nice and balanced and under control. We're going to start this out of a self toss so we can just get in that habit of making that 0.5 decision to quickly rip through an attack. Next you'll go with a jump stop into a pump fake, making sure that you take your time, you don't rush this pump fake. You really sell and show that ball so that defender jumps and. And then you go up for the finish. Next you'll go with a jump stop into a pump fake, and then you're going to step through and finish on the opposite side. Very important here that your feet land at the same time so you can choose which other pivot foot that you want. And again, it's important right here that you take your time on this pump fake, that you really sell it to get that defender to jump. And then you step through and you can go ahead and finish with whichever hand that you want. And lastly, you'll go with a stride stop finish where you're going to be stepping 1, 2 outside foot inside foot and then going into your finish. Now we'll go into a little bit of a shooting warm up which is going to directly target the same shots. We're going to be shooting out of game situations. Later in the workout, you start at the free throw line and for this first series we're going to slide to the right elbow. First you're going to catch and rip through right into one drill pull up, really bringing your momentum downhill. Next we're going to go catch into a shot fake, then into one dribble up downhill and we'll work this going both left and going right. Next we'll go right into a jab going towards that side that you're sliding to and then we'll go pull up in the middle. Now you repeat this going to the opposite elbow. So now we're attacking left with that catch and rip through. We're going to go both sides of that shot fake again and we're going to jab to the left and pull up middle. Now we're going to work on these same shots coming off of a relocation off of a driving kick. For this first series, you're going to start by drifting up towards the wing. You're going to catch and we're going to rip through right to the middle into a finish. After you get those allotted reps, you're going to go same thing into a pull up, either one dribble or two dribble. Now you're going to go lift directly into a shot fake and then you're going to attack for the finish. After you get those reps, you'll go same thing, except you're going to go into a pull up. For the next variation you will catch right into a jab using that defender's momentum against them. Then you go into a finish. After those reps you'll do same thing into a pull up. Now we're going to go with the same series. If we're going to go out of a drift to the corner. After you finish that, you're going to go to the other side of the floor, repeat that lift series. Once you finish that, you're going to repeat the drift series. To finish out this workout, we're going to get to the most important part which is your ability to hit the catch and shoot feature three coming off this relocation. So you're going to start on the wing and you're going to go back and forth between lifting up to the wing and drifting down to the corner and you're going to catch and shoot the three every time. Your ability to execute in these situations is super super important if you want to be an effective scorer. This is how the majority of basketball is played. If you're able to score efficiently in these situations, you'll be able to be effective in almost any situation that you find yourself in.
