This is a short coaching/tutorial segment (YouTube video) about executing an effective basketball shot fake. The speaker emphasizes patience and believability: treat the fake like a real jump shot up to the jump, vary duration and magnitude by situation (from long/drawn-out to a brief look and slight lift), and use the shot fake to create offensive advantages consistently.

Chapters

The first key to an effective shot fake is not rushing it. You want to be patient with your shot fake because ultimately it needs to be believable. You should treat it exactly like your jump shot until you get to the actual jump. And there's plenty of nuance with this. Sometimes a shot fake needs to be long and drawn out. Sometimes it can just be a look at the rim and a slight lift of the ball. It's all just situation dependent. An effective shot fate creates an advantage for you as an offensive player, and the best offensive players are able to consistently create advantages for themselves.
