How To STOP MISSING Shots in Basketball!

Ethan Khoza breaks down why shots fall short or flat: weak legs, releasing the ball too low, and cutting the follow-through short. He recommends drilling with your legs engaged, keeping your elbow above eye level, and holding your follow-through until the ball goes in.

In basketball, there's gonna be missed shots. No matter how great you become, you'll never be perfect. Think about it. The best shooters in the world get paid millions of dollars to make less than 50% of their threes. So expecting to make every shot is very unrealistic. However, becoming a great and consistent shooter is something that you can definitely do. There are some adjustments that you can make that can significantly decrease the amount of shots that you miss. In this video, we're going to focus on why you miss shots short and why you miss shots flat. Let's get into it. The reason that I want to cover short misses and flat misses is because a lot of times they're caused by the same things. So if we can solve these things, we can almost eliminate both short and flat misses. Specifically, we're going to talk about four reasons that you miss shots short and flat. Reason number one Legs. This is probably the most common reason. A lot of times people don't understand just how important your legs are to your shot. In fact, you could argue that your legs are the most important part of your shot because if you forget about them, they could ruin your shot completely. Typically, you underuse your legs when your shots consistently miss short or flat. The first thing you should do is is make sure you're getting enough power from your legs, especially when you're tired. If this is your problem, here's a couple of solutions. Jump as high as you can a few times, really activate your leg muscles and get them ready to work. You're also going to want to consciously think about using your legs the next couple times you shoot. Even if it feels weird, try to get a little bit more power from your lower body. It'll pay off. Also, make sure when you do your form shooting to start, start your workouts. You use your legs too. Reason number two, a flat shot release. The second most common reason you miss shots short and flat is because your release is flat. A common cue I like to use with my players is elbow above the eye. This means that when you release your shot, your elbow level should be higher than your eye level. That's how you'll know if your shot release has enough arc on it. If you find that your elbow is not above your eye when you release the ball, then there's a good chance that you're going to struggle with missing shots short and flat. Here's the fix for this. Obviously, you need to keep in mind elbow above the eye and recognize when you don't follow that cue. Additionally, when you do your form shooting, before workouts or practices, focus on finishing with your elbow above your eye. Try and switch every shot and get perfect arc. Reason number three not holding your follow through or short arming. You have to make sure you finish your shot. When you don't, you're going to start missing shots. Holding your follow through is super important. It helps make sure that you shoot consistently every time. Also, not holding your follow through can lead into or be a result of not fully locking out your arm. When you don't fully extend your arm, it'll cause you to shoot flat. Usually when I'm missing shots, it's because of this reason. Here's the fix to this Focus on holding your follow through. Again, going back to your form shooting before workouts, make sure that you concentrate on holding your follow through until the ball goes in. In games, focus on confidently hoarding your follow through and fully locking out your arm when you shoot. There it is guys. If you take care of these three things, you'll miss significantly less shots.
