Ethan Khoza breaks down Michael Jordan's scoring moves through eight drills: form shooting, reverse layups, screen curls, jab-step pull-ups, mid-post turns, cross-steps, behind-the-back snatches, and the cross-snatch pull-up. Focus is on creating separation and mid-range scoring off the dribble.

Michael Jordan is one of the most iconic figures in the history of sports and one of the most iconic people in modern history. A six time NBA champion, six time Finals mvp, ten time scoring champ, and five time regular season mvp, Michael Jordan completely changed the world through the game of basketball and is a huge reason for its popularity today. At some point, every young Hooper wanted to be like Mike. This workout will focus on the ability to create separation, score in the mid range and hit shots off the dribble. Let's get into it. First thing we're going to do, we're going to warm up some quick form shooting using two hands here. Really trying to key in on our mechanics here. You want to try and switch every single shot and have perfect backspin and rotation every single time. Now we're going to get into our two foot up and under reverse layups. We're going to start this off by showing that ball high, getting the defense to commit to it. Then we're going to bring it back down, finish on the opposite side. We're going to take one dribble and we're going to step outside foot, inside foot, go up with it, bring it back under, finishing the opposite side. Now we're going to head into our self toss, pin down, curl, jump shots. So we're going to simulate coming off the screen for a catch and shoot curl, jump shot. All you're going to do is you're going to soft toss this ball to yourself, up around the elbow, you're going to sprint up and get it. You can either step 1, 2 into this like I'm doing in the clip, or you can hop into it like you see Michael Jordan doing in the clip. Really working on our ability to hit shots off of screenshots. If you guys watch my videos, you know how much I love the jab step. So we're going to get into the jab, two dribble, pull up right here. You're going to self sauce the ball to yourself. Give a little bit of a pause before you go into that jab set, making sure you really sell it. You see my foot move and the ball move, I'm selling it. I'm driving to the right or the left and then I'm going to take two dribbles to the middle and take that pull up jump shot. Make sure you guys stay low on this so that that foot that you plant with doesn't slide when you make that jab step. We all know Michael Jordan was very, very effective from the mid post. So here's another example Right here, where the defender overplays and jumps into the passing lane. You're going to catch this ball off the self toss and immediately turn, pivot on that low foot right into the jump shot. You want this to be a very, very quick move. You want to be able to get into the shot quickly before the defense has time to recover. Now we're going with our soft jab, cross step, middle pull ups. So, so you guys are going to see me catch this ball and give a little soft jab. Not really trying to sell it, just trying to get the defender to move a little bit. Then I'm going to step across my body towards the baseline. And at the same time, I'm going to dribble that ball with my outside hands. And then I'm immediately going to cross over towards the middle, take another dribble and pull up right here. So we're really trying to get our defender to shift down to the baseline, which is going to give us the ability to drive to the middle. Now we're going to head into our attack baseline behind the back snatches. So you guys are going to start at about the hash mark on the court where you see, if you don't have that on your court, just estimate it and you're going to take two dribbles attacking the basket. I want to make sure you guys really, really sell that you're driving to the basket. Then that third dribble is going to be that snatch behind the back. You're going to immediately get into that jump shot again, super, super important right here. So the only way this move works is if you guys take those first two dribbles super explosively and sell that you're actually trying to drive to the basket before you quickly snatch it behind your back and get it to the jump shot. Now we're going to get into maybe the most iconic Michael Jordan shot ever, the cross snatch pull up. We want to make sure that we really sell the drive here. So you're going to see me, I'm going to start in a closed stance with my body between the defender and the ball. Then I'm going to open my stance up and get into a drop. So you see my footwork right here. Then I'm going to make sure that I take one big dribble selling the drive. I'm going to step left, right? Then I'm going to snatch the ball back. But if you guys pay attention to my footwork, you can see that I put all my weight into stopping my right foot. So I'm going to step left, right, all my weights on my right foot because that's going to sell the drive and that's going to have the defender keep on going, which is going to create a separation for us. After I do that, I'm crossing the ball back over with that snatch dribble, then I'm shooting the jump shot. And for all of you right handed players, I want you to go in the same direction the whole time. So exactly how I'm doing it, I want you to do that. That way we can really master this move and be able to use it in games. If you're left handed, you can just do it the opposite way.
