The BEST Quarantine Schedule For Basketball Players (The KEY To Getting Better!!)

YouTube coaching video by Ethan Khoza (uploaded April 4, 2020) advising basketball players how to structure daily training during COVID-19 quarantine. Main messages: use quarantine as opportunity to improve rather than be idle; do short, consistent daily practice (suggested morning 10–30 minute skill work, optional mid-day session, and an evening session that can include an at-home strength workout); working out up to three times a day is feasible (example: 10-minute ball-handling, 15-minute finishing, plus strength); write a daily schedule and follow it for at least seven days. Video ends with invitation to join a free private training group and typical YouTube calls-to-action.

What's up, guys? Coach Ethan here today. I want to talk about what the most ideal schedule will be for training right now during this whole quarantine self isolation period of time that we're in. And what routine, what schedule should you follow right now to see the most amount of development possible before we get into specifics? First of all, hopefully you guys aren't just sitting around watching the Tiger King playing video games all day. Nothing wrong with those two things. But if that's all you're doing, or if that's how you spend the majority of your time, you need to change that. A lot of people will say right now that the time that we're in, there's not a lot of opportunity. People use that as an excuse to not do anything. You have to understand that there is a ton of opportunity right now. Something that you hopefully start to recognize is that when everybody's doing one thing, you should look to do something else. If everybody's focused on this, focus on something else. If everybody is talking about this, talk about something else. Right now, everybody is doing nothing. Everybody is sitting at home watching Netflix, playing video games, doing nothing all day. That means that you should be on a different path doing something. And understand this. Even if you just do a little bit every single day, you're going to start to get exponentially better than most people right now who are doing nothing. Because you have to know this, you either get better or you get worse. You do not stay the same if you do nothing for however long we're under this quarantine. If you do nothing, you're not going to stay the same, you're going to get worse, your skills are going to diminish, your physical fitness is going to go down, you're going to go this way. The longer that you do nothing. But if you decide to do even a little bit every day, get a little bit better every day, all of a sudden you're gonna start to build up here. So now all of a sudden, at the beginning, where, you know, we might have started, even with people, some people are gonna drop all the way down here and others people are gonna go all the way up here. So you have to determine where you're going to be because there is no middle ground. You're either gonna be up here or you're gonna be down here. Determine which one you're going to be. So with that being said, you have to understand there is enormous opportunity right now because there is not a lot of action being taken currently. And if you can dedicate a Little bit of time every day to getting better at basketball. You're gonna start to see that payoff a lot down the road. Okay? But you have to make that choice every single day. I'm gonna take a few minutes and get better. So I got a question on YouTube yesterday with somebody asking me if right now is a good time to work out three times a day. And the answer that is yes, absolutely. Now, will I say that you need to work out three times a day? No, of course you don't need to do that, but you can. Most people don't have anything better to do with your time. So I figure why not do something productive? Even if you were to say, okay, I'm going to work out three times a day and I'm going to do one 10 minute ball handling session, one 15 minute finishing session, and then, you know, I'm going to do my at home strength workout. All those are right above. So go ahead and check that out in that playlist. That being said, what is the ideal schedule that you should be following right now? Now, I understand everybody's schedule is a little bit different. Some people like to wake up earlier, some people like to wake up later. The good thing now is that most people are just sitting at home. So you can kind of determine when you want to start, how late you want to go, all that stuff. So I'm not going to give you a specific time, but you take what I'm going to say and you apply it to your own schedule. What I would say is when you get up in the morning, do something, get outside, do a ball handling workout, get a few shots up, do something in the morning, it doesn't have to be too intense, doesn't have to be for too long, you know, for 10 to 30 minutes, somewhere in that range, work on your game, get better. Then I'd say as an option, come out later, maybe mid afternoon, do something again, maybe just quick ball handling, some finishing, whatever you want to do. That's optional though. But I will say in the evening is when you should definitely get another session in. So for example, if you're doing my at home strength program right now, which I highly recommend that you guys be doing, maybe that's what you do in the evening and maybe to warm up for that, you do a little ball handling or you do a little finishing so you're nice and warm and you're ready to go. If you are willing to do that, you're willing to work out once in the morning, once in the evening, you guys are going to see so much development, so much growth right now, even if it doesn't seem like it's all that much time. Because like I said before, most people are spending zero minutes getting better, zero time doing anything productive. If you're willing to give 30, 40, maybe even an hour long of your time every single day to getting better, you're going to see a lot of improvement. So that's my recommendation to you guys. Once at the beginning of your day, choose something to do and then once in the evening with some optional work in the middle of your day. What I want you guys to do right now is go into the notes app on your phone or get a piece of paper, do whatever. But I want you to write out what you're going to do every single day. I want you guys to get a schedule and I want you guys to stick to that schedule. Even if it's here for the next week, for the next seven days. Write down what you're going to do. Tomorrow morning when I wake up, I'm going to do these 8 minute ball handling workout and then in the evening I'm going to do workout A of the strength program and I'm going to do a little bit of ball handling. That's going to be my day tomorrow. Then right out the next day, the next morning I'm going to get up and I'm going to do this, okay? And then I'm gonna do this, do that for seven days and start to see how getting into a consistent routine is really gonna help you stick to something. Once you have it written down and you tell yourself this is what I'm gonna do, you're gonna be able to follow it much easier. And sticking to a routine is very, very critical at a time like this where nothing is normal. Get some normalcy into your day. Get a routine that you're gonna stick to and that still is gonna give you plenty of time to play video games, watch tv, whatever else you want to do. But make sure you make it a priority every single day to get your work in. And like I said before, guys, it's really going to pay off. I promise you that.
