Coach Ethan Khoza explains practical, drill-based methods to improve ball handling under defensive pressure: work live against one or more defenders within set boundaries or timed constraints (e.g., baseline to half court in six seconds, 15–20 second possession challenges) and build overall/core/upper-body strength to better absorb contact and maintain control.

When we're talking about ball pressure and handling that, the best thing you can do is just work on handling pressure against somebody, get somebody to guard you, get two people to guard you and just work on that. You can even make it as simple as starting at the baseline. And you can give yourself an area. So, hey, sideline to lane line, that's my boundaries right here. Or you can set up a cone or some like a line of cones, whatever the. To just give yourself a boundary. And then it can be you versus a defender. And you have to get yourself to half court handling the pressure. They're trying to steal the ball from you and stop you. And then you can add to that and say, okay, now I have six seconds to do it. I have six seconds to get from the baseline to half court inside these boundaries with a defender guarding me. And if that becomes easy, then maybe you add a one on two. And now you say, okay, I have to get to half court against two defenders now. Or you could even make like an area. Like maybe you make a circle or you just go in the paint, or you go in that, the circle around half court and you have you and either one defender or two defenders, and you just have to handle the ball for a certain amount of time, 15, 20 seconds, you're trying to handle the ball and not lose it against a defender in a certain area, whatever. That's the best way to get better handling pressure is just by doing it. And it can be very, very simple. Again, you just call up one of your friends, say, hey, let's just go work on this. You guys can go back and forth, offensive defense right there. You guys will both get a ton out of that right there. I would say the other piece to that is going back to our last question. Getting stronger, I think definitely will help you with that, just because you're going to be able to handle being bumped, your arm, getting pushed, you getting pushed. So we talk about developing just core strength, overall body strength, upper body strength, all that stuff goes into it. So I would say those are the two biggest things when it comes to handling pressure is just actually working on it, putting yourself in that position to work on it, and then getting stronger as well. And those two things are going to take you far with that, Sam.
