Just try me, baby. What's up, guys? Coach Ethan here today. I wanted to talk about the only five skills that you need to become a great scorer. I got this video idea from a guy named dre Baldwin on YouTube and he got this idea from a guy named Bernard King, who's an NBA hall of Famer, a great scorer, and was actually asked this question in an interview, and this was his answer to it. So basically, the only five skills that you need to be a great scorer are counters to what the defense does. So let me explain this to you. The defense can only guard you in five different ways. They can force you to go left if they think that you don't have a strong left hand. They can force you to go right if they don't think you can go right very well. They can sag off you if they don't think you can shoot. They can pressure you if they don't think you can handle the ball, or they can deny you and try to not let you even get the ball in the first place. So what this means for you is that if you know that there's only five ways a defender can guard you, you have to understand that if you can develop a way to counter each one of those five ways, you literally will not be able to be stopped by anybody. Because the only five ways that they can try and guard you, you'll have a way to overcome every single way. So for example, when we talk about going to the left, maybe you have a really, really great step back going to your left. And if a defender forces you that way, you know you can go to that and be able to get a bucket from doing that. Maybe if a defender forces you right, you know you'll be able to blow by them against the basket. Or maybe you'll be able to set up your crossover really well. You know that if your defender sags off you, you can hit the shot. And the same way, if the defender pressures up on you, you're strong enough with the ball that you can rip through and get by them. And if your defender denies you, you're good enough at running off of off ball screens and being able to work without the ball to be able to get the ball and then be able to score. When you break the game down that way, it becomes much simpler to understand what it takes to be a great scorer. So right now figure out if you have a way that you can counter all five of these ways the defense might try and guard you. Look at a guy like James Harden. If you watched the playoffs last season, it was impossible for anybody to stop them, despite countless new ways defense has tried to guard him. That's because no matter which one of these five tactics the defense tries to use to stop him, he has a way to overcome every single one of them. And that's what makes him such a great scorer.
