The Season Is Over...Now What? (Basketball Tips)

Coach Ethan Khoza (YouTube) explains how players should use the offseason: reflect on the past season by answering three written questions (what you did well, what you did poorly, and your top three goals), create one concrete action per goal, and review these goals daily to drive consistent improvement. The video includes examples (e.g., strength: on-ball defense → weight room; weakness: 3-point shooting → practice daily) and ends with calls to comment, join a private training group, and subscribe.

Just ride me, baby. What's up, guys? Coach Ethan here. For most of you guys, the winter season is over. And now you gotta ask yourself, what. Now this point in the year is a very critical time for your development as a basketball player. And in this video, we're gonna go over some steps you need to take to make sure that you really make the most of this offseason. Because you can't go into this offseason without a plan and expect to be at the level you want to be at next year. You gotta make sure that you have something that you're gonna stick to. You have a goal in your mind that you're gon every single day. Because if you aren't working with a purpose, then your work is almost meaningless. So when the season's over, you need to be able to look back and reflect on what just happened. The highs and the lows and going forward, what do you want to achieve? So I'm going to ask myself three questions and I want you to ask yourself three questions. And don't just think them. I want you to write these down. I want you to go into your notes app, on your phone, or you can even get an actual piece of paper and write these things down. But I really want you to do that. It's super crucial that you don't just watch this video and do nothing. Watch this video, watch. Write down these three questions and their answers and then review them. Make sure it's really what you want. This is going to help you so much. Let's get into it. The first question you're going to ask yourself is what did I do well this past season? Things that you can build on, stuff like that. Question number two, what did I not do well? What were my weaknesses this year? What are some weaknesses that you need to improve? And then question number three, what are your top three goals for next season? You're going to write all three of those. So now once you have these questions, you're going to answer question one, what were your strengths? Question two, what were your weaknesses? Question number three, you're going to write out your goals and then for each of those goals, you're going to make sure that you write out one thing you can do to achieve that goal. So let's go through all of it. Let's say your biggest strength this year was your on ball defense. So you're going to ask yourself, what can I do to build on this strength? Well, maybe you say that you're going to get in the weight room more to get stronger and to get quicker so you're an even better defender next year. That's an example for question number two. Let's say your weakness was three point shooting. So for this one you were going to write down I'm going to get in the gym every day and shoot 103 pointers to improve my weakness. There's another example. Now for your three goals. Let's say you have a goal that you want to be a starter next season. So you're going to write down one thing you can do to achieve that goal next year. Maybe that means you need to make it into more team stuff over the offseason. Maybe that means that you need to get stronger in the weight room for next season. Maybe that means you need to become a better ball handler or a better shooter. You get assets for yourself and figure it out. So there's one of your goals, right? You're going to have two more. You're going to do the exact same thing with those goals. Now what you you're going to do after you have all that written out, I want you to review those goals every single day. Every single day. When you wake up, look at your goals, because that's going to push you, that's going to drive you. A little known secret is that by reviewing your goals, by reviewing the things that you want to have happen, it's more likely that those things are going to happen. And that's because when you have those things in your mind constantly, you're always thinking about your goals. You're going to subconsciously do things to put yourself in a situation to achieve them, right? When you're constantly thinking about getting in the gym, getting better, you're going to find yourself putting yourself into situations to where that's going to happen. If you tell yourself every day I'm going to become a better defender, you're going to do things that are going to push you in that direction as opposed to you writing this stuff down once and never looking at it again. Now it's not in your mind. So I'm telling you, if you want to see the maximum amount of improvement going into next season, make sure you review these three questions every single day. Review their answers and use those to drive you to become the best player you can be next season. I'm going to have all three of these questions linked down in the description, guys, so make sure you check them out.
