Ethan Khoza explains how less-talented players beat better opponents: exploit their weaknesses, believe you'll win, and bring more energy and discipline. Complacent talent loses to hungry discipline.

Just try me, baby. If you watch my videos, you'll know that I love to relate basketball to life because there's lessons you learn in basketball that are going to translate to everywhere in your life. Something I want you guys to understand is that everybody can be beat. It doesn't matter how good they are. It doesn't matter how much better than you they are, they can be beat. And in life, it's the same exact thing. Players want to know how they can beat guys who are bigger, faster, stronger, better than them. In basketball, we see underdogs win all the time. Teams that have no business competing with other go out there and win games that they aren't supposed to win, which should let you know right off the bat that it is very much possible to beat people who are bigger, faster, stronger or better teams. Let's talk about where it starts, though. The first thing is you have to truly believe that. You have to believe that every time you step out on the floor, you're gonna beat whoever it is in front of you. It doesn't matter how big they are, how fast they are, how high they can jump, how great they can shoot, you're gonna go out and beat anybody on the floor. That's gotta be your mindset. And whether or not you go out on the court and you lose by 30 or you go out and win by 30, the step on the court, you have that same belief in yourself that you're gonna beat whoever it is that you play. If you're looking at your matchups before games and you start to get scared and you tell yourself that you're gonna lose, you're going to lose. But if you go out and tell yourself that you're gonna win, that doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to win, but it gives you a chance to. If you tell yourself you're gonna lose, you will lose. But if you tell yourself that you're going to win, you give yourself a shot to actually do that. Let's talk about how we actually do it. You have to understand that nobody is perfect. Not even the best player in the world is perfect. Everybody has a weakness that you can find and you can exploit. And likewise, you have strengths that you can use to your advantage as well. Now, a lot of times the biggest issue is that players don't understand that if you can just focus on doing your job the best you can, a lot of times you'll be able to beat people because people aren't disciplined enough to stick to what they do. For example, the reason That a lot of great teams will lose to lesser teams is because they'll go into games expecting to win already because they're more talented. So they don't commit discipline wise to what they need to do to win. And that leaves an opening for that less talented team to win. If that less talented team outworks them, brings it in the energy department and really believes that they can win, and they go out and try and take it and prove a point, they'll beat teams who don't come disciplined, who don't come ready to play. That's what you need to understand every time you step out on the court. If you can outwork your opponent and be more disciplined than them, you're going to give yourself a chance to win every time. It doesn't matter who is on the other side of that court. You have to truly believe that you can win. And then you have to focus on doing the best that you can possibly do because most people don't bring their best. And if you can, that'll separate you from everybody else. And that's going to give you a chance to beat people who are a lot better than you. At the end of the day, guys, the number one thing is self belief. If you believe that you're going to win, a lot of times you're going to win even when you shouldn't. A lot of times you'll go out there, you'll go against players or teams that are better than you. And just because you go out there expecting to win, you're going to raise your game and beat people who might be more talented than you. The best players and the best teams in the world have talent, but more importantly, mentally, they bring it every single night. Every single night they come out disciplined and expecting to win. And that leads to them having energy. And with those together, they become incredibly difficult to beat. Even if you lack some of that talent, if you come out expecting to win and you're disciplined, you will win a lot more than you should.
