UNGUARDABLE Basketball Move - The In And Out Dribble (How To Score Easily)

Coach Ethan Khoza breaks down the in-and-out dribble, a move that freezes defenders by selling a hard step then crossing the ball back. He shows how Jayson Tatum, Lou Williams, and Donovan Mitchell use it, then walks through the mechanics: get low, explode downhill, and always have a counter ready.

Just try me, baby. What's up, guys? Coach Ethan here. Today we're going to talk about one of my favorite moves ever. And that's the in and out dribble. Now the reason that I love this move so much is because it's so versatile and there's so many things you can do out of it. It's a great and simple way to shift your defender to freeze him and be able to explode by him. And the best part about it is that if you can master this move, it's something that you can go to all the time in games in a bunch of different situations and really, really find it easy to be beat people because you're good at this move. Now, a misconception that people have of basketball is that you have to have a bunch of different moves that you're good at if you want to be a great player. But really, if you look at the best players in the world, the guys who can score easily, they really only have a couple things that they have mastered, but they're so good at it that they can go to whenever they want to. And that makes them almost impossible to guard. Now, I've talked about before the importance of having a go to move and a counter to that move as well. And with the in and out dribble, that can be your go to. But then the next level is being able to use the in and out dribble and adding in a crossover after it or between the legs after it. That way you have the go to move, but you also have a counter because the defense starts to overplay it. And once you have those two things, you're going to be very, very difficult to guard. So in this video I'm going to break down some clips showing you the in n out dribble from a few different guys. I'm going to show you my own footage of using it and show you why. This was my favorite move and still is my favorite move to use in games because of how effective it is, the different types of ways you can use it, that's really going to help you to score and beat your defender more easily. So we're going to look at the in and out dribble with three different players just to prove to you that all different kinds of players can use this move and be able to score effectively with it. So JT is going to get the ball up top. He's going to attack. Lou will going to the left, hit him with the in and out. Boom. Finish. And one. Now, let's look at it from this angle. Pay close attention to Luel's feet right here. He's going to go boom. Right there. Notice that back right foot. Now that's really what the in n out does, is it causes the defender to shift to the way that you're not going to actually go. And they're going to drop that back foot, essentially giving you a way to get right by them. And it's very, very hard for them to recover, especially if you explode and go straight downhill like Jason Tatum does right here. This is why the in and out move is so effective, because it gets your defender off balance and moving the opposite direction. Even if they want to recover, even if they're really, really effective and great defenders, if you're able to get them off balance, you can use your momentum to get downhill. You're going to be very hard to guard if you can master this move. So let's talk about the keys of the in and out move. Now, you want to make sure that the side you want your defender to go to to really sell your body going that way. Again, the in and out is really selling that. We're going to cross the ball over and go to the other side. So, for example, Jayson Tatum's got the ball in his left hand right now, and he's going to use his left hand to do the in and out move. Therefore, he's going to make sure that he aggressively steps with that right foot to the right side. And he's going to bring that ball in his left hand on the in and out. He's going to bring it across the midline of his body. All that means is that the zero on his jersey, he's going to bring the ball at least two there. When he makes his in and out move to really sell, he's going to the right. So we'll see. Here he goes, steps right there with that foot. Now, Lou will. You can look at his right foot right now. He's already gearing to Push off to move to his left to cut off Jayson Tatum because he thinks, oh, he's going left. JT Brings that ball back to the left side. And now that he violently punched that right foot, he can push up with that foot. And now all his momentum is going to go to the left and all of Lou Williams momentum is going to go the other way. Goes that way. Got his defender to jump. Now again, all he's got to do is get downhill before Lou will is able to get on balance again and easy and one finish. The next dude we're going to take a look at is Shabazz Napier. Now you're going to see him use this move effectively to shift the help defense to get him an easy layup at the rim. Now, the Jason Tatum clip that we looked at showed you how you can beat your defender, your primary defender off the dribble with this move. But one of my favorite parts about this move is that it's so versatile you can use it against your on ball defender. But also when you beat that defender or you come off a screen, the help defense steps up. This is especially good to use, especially against a big man who might not be able to move his feet as well. If you're a guard, you're going to really be able to get by that help defense if you use this move effectively. So we're going to see Shabazz neighbor come off this screen and he's going to attack most baits. Boom. Move him to the inside. Now all of a sudden, easy lane to the basket. No contest. We'll see him come off again right here. Now again, most fates is worried about when he sees his in and out coming, he thinks, oh, he's splitting to the inside, right? So he's gonna jump to cut that off. Now you'll notice that this in and out is real subtle, right? But another key to the in and out is that you're not necessarily going to shift your defender every time, but what you are gonna do is you're gonna freeze him. So more so than the shift from most baits, most baits isn't going to move all that much. But what he's going to do is he's going to move slightly to the inside and then he's going to freeze right there. And because Shabazz Napier is able to explode off that in and out move, he's going to get to the outside while most baits is still shift to the inside and frozen. So you'll see it right here. He comes off this boom. Right there. Subtle in and out. Most bait. Starts to step to the inside, brings his foot frozen. He's not moving. Now comes back to the inside, to the outside finish. Now, let's take a quick look at Carmelo right here. Now, obviously, Carmelo is probably the least athletic of those three, right? He's not quite as athletic in terms of above the rim the way Jayson Tatum is. And he also isn't as quick as Shabazz Napier is. But what he lacks in that sort of athleticism he makes up for in his ability to get buckets from the outside. So Carmelo Anthony is going to use his in and out to create space so that he can get his jump shot off. And you'll see it right here. He's going to go with his in and out, Boom, crossover. He's going to shift lamarcus Aldrich, and boom. Now that he has that space, he's pulling up right there. Get that guy to retreat. Boom. Shift him right up with it. Now, the key to be able to do this effectively is that as soon as you use your in and out dribble and you see your defender search or retreat, you have to immediately go into that pull up. So you want to make sure that you really use that space, you create effectively because it's not going to last forever. So you got to make sure you hit them with that move, and then immediately you go into that shot. And something you'll hear me talk about is that you want to have a go to move move, but at the same time, you got to have a counter to that move, right? And it's the same thing with this. In a way, we have a guy like Jason Tatum and he's going to give you the in and out and then get to the rim. You want to make sure you can do that, but at the same time, you also want to make sure that you can give him an in and out and then hit the jump shot, too, if they give you space, right? Because a lot of times if a defender knows that all you want to do is shoot it, he's not going to give you that space. He might give you the ability to drive by him. And if you can't take it, you're going to limit yourself as a player. So make sure that with this in and out move, you're able to do it and then beat your guy to the rim, but at the same time, you're able to do it and then hit him with the jump shot if they give you the space for it. So, like I said, before. The in and out dribble is one of my favorite moves to use, and I use it all the time when I was playing. When I play now, I still use this move all the time. And something you'll notice about this clip I'm going to show you is I'm able to get to the rim. I know that the guy who's on me is a little bit slower than I am. So I know that if I can get good leverage and if I'm able to get a good start, I'll be able to blow by him, which I did a couple times before this using really the same exact move, right? And this is what was going for me. So something you're also going to understand about the in n out is that it really is a great move that's going to help you get in a position to blow by somebody. Meaning if you want to do an effective in and out, you have to get low, and you're going to have to get your feet in a position to where you're going to be able to push off and blow by somebody. So as opposed to you just catching the ball and then just immediately going as fast as you can by setting them up with an in and out dribble, first you're going to. First of all, like we talked about before, you're going to either shift them, or if you don't shift them, you're going to freeze them, and then you're going to put yourself in an advantageous situation to push off that outside foot that you jabbed with, and boom. Go as fast as you can by them. So you'll see it right here. This ball is going to come to me right on the wing, and my guy's playing me straight up. So I'm going to go at him. Boom. Now look at that. Because I got into the in and out, and honestly, we talked about jabbing that foot aggressively, selling that ball to the outside. I didn't really even do that. I really just. I still had the in and out dribble. It was not quite as noticeable. But what you'll still see is I was able to get low. And now that I'm lower than my guy, I'm gonna be able to beat him. It's nothing he can do other than foul me. And even if he does, chances are I'm still gonna get the free throw line. So he's here. Boom. Explode by him. Help. Defense comes in late. Three guys foul me. Free throw line knocked them both down. So let's look at that in A different speed. That ball comes back to me. Get low, explode by to the line. And again, that's why I love the in and out dribble because it's so versatile. You can have it. That's gonna shift your defender, it can freeze him. But at the same time, it's gonna help you to blow by your guy regardless. He's gonna get you some momentum that you can push off with. And it's very hard for a defender who's standing still to be able to stop you if you use your in and out dribble in order to explode by him. I'm gonna put a clip right here from Donovan Mitchell that's gonna do the same exact thing. Right now we have Donovan Mitchell with. He's attacking d' Angelo Russell. Now what he could do is he could just straight up go with his right hand, attack the middle. But that's easy to guard because d' Angelo Russell would see it coming, right? But if you hit him with an in and out, you're gonna freeze him, therefore being able to go to that, right? But now all of a sudden he's frozen. He has no momentum at all. You have all the momentum in the world because you're already coming downhill. So now he only has two options. One of them is to get beat. The other one is to foul you to try and stop you from getting to the basket. So we'll see it right? Here goes boom. Gets him going. Now all of a sudden he's frozen. Has to try and keep up. He can't. That's a blow by finish. Defender's not moving very fast. Donovan Mitchell is moving fast. In and out explodes right here. Now d' Angelo Russell is trying to recover and get back to that side, but Donovan Mitchell is just going too fast. He's too explosive because he was able to use an in and out dribble, get low and really push off that foot that he jabbed with that left foot. Gets downhill, easy finish. This is why I love the in and out move so much. It's so effective. You guys enjoyed this video. Go ahead and leave a like and subscribe as well.
