Is Being “Too Nice” A Dating Backfire? 🤔

In this YouTube video, Christian dating coach Melannie Gregersen tackles the common belief that "nice guys" never win in dating. She argues that the problem lies not in being nice, but in a misguided definition of niceness that equates to lack of boundaries, ambition, and confidence. Melannie redefines a "nice guy" as a man who is protective, confident, kind, and self‑respecting, and explains how this version of niceness can be highly attractive. She uses cultural examples (e.g., Aragorn) to illustrate the blend of empathy and masculine strength. The video also addresses why some women gravitate toward "jerks"—citing drama addiction, toxicity, and personal responsibility—while emphasizing that men should focus on elevating the quality of women they associate with. Practical advice includes setting boundaries, developing charisma, improving body language, and cultivating self‑respect. Throughout, Melannie promotes her paid coaching program, the Academy, noting enrollment opens on August 13 for a limited weekend window and urging viewers to join the waitlist. The video ends with a community “secret word” (Zelda) to encourage engagement.

And these are backed by science. You're gonna love it. There's a link in the description below. So let's answer the big question. Does being too nice backfire in dating? The answer is, well, it depends. It really depends on your definition of "too nice." When it comes to dating and relationships, relationships. One of the most common things people hear is, "Oh, the nice guy never wins. Oh, look at that. The nice guy never wins." So let's just kind of define what we mean by "nice guy." Because there's some truth to it, but it's also complete nonsense. So for starters, when most people say "nice guy," what comes to mind is a man with no backbone, a guy who just kind of lets people walk all over him. He's kind of wishy-washy. Think of Charlie Brown. Someone who sets no boundaries and who has no ambition. This is what comes to mind when most people hear "nice guy." Someone who doesn't have their own thoughts and opinions. However, let's take a step back here. What actually makes someone nice? Can you be nice and set boundaries? Absolutely! Nice people protect other people, don't they? Well, of course, that's a very nice thing to do. And in order to protect other people and yourself, you need to set boundaries. Nice people care enough about themselves and the world to want to make it a better place. They want to have opinions and beliefs and standards. That's a pretty nice thing to do. So it's time to shift our definition of "nice." Another thing that frequently comes to people's minds when they hear "nice guy" is someone who's plain, someone who's unattractive. And if you take on that identity, "Oh, I'm just a nice guy who's unattractive," dude, it's going to be a lot harder to attract women. This is why it's so empowering to learn how to flirt, to learn how to be charismatic with her, to learn how to position your body language, all of these attractive things that you can totally have and rock while still being a nice person. So if the definition in your head is, "To be a nice guy, I need to be plain and unattractive and just kind of the whole guy next door vibe," be the sexy guy next door. You get to decide who you want to be. So shift that mindset a little bit. Is that making sense? So if we're talking about that meaning of being too nice, yes, that's going to make dating and attracting a woman very, very difficult. But if we instead take this new definition of a nice guy, things change pretty quickly. Let's say instead that your definition is a man who's protective, a man who is confident, kind, supportive, encouraging. That right there is the stuff dreams are made of. There's a very sexy masculine strength that comes from a man who is supportive, who looks out for others, who stands up for others. That's the kind of man a woman craves. She doesn't just want him, she craves him. And here's why. It's because a high-value woman sees him as a high-value man. She sees him as someone who would be an amazing husband, an adorable father to their future children. Honestly, one of my favorite examples of this is Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings. Yes, those are my favorite movies, in case you're wondering. I know you are wondering, so that's why I mentioned it. He's a fabulous example of this. He shows up to do the right thing even when it would be easier to not to. He has those feelings of lacking confidence and feeling like maybe he can't measure up, but he shows up anyway. He's confident, he's full of empathy and compassion, and yes, he's a very sexy man. You can be nice and ridiculously attractive as long as you have the right skill set. This is why I teach my clients in my Academy how to set boundaries, how to be charismatic, how to increase your confidence. People respect people who respect themselves. And so if you want her to see you as a leader, You need to have self-respect. That doesn't mean you're no longer a nice person. As a matter of fact, in many ways, you're much nicer. Have you ever known someone where you just really can't tell where you stand with them? It's so annoying. I'm very much— if you've been watching me for a while, you know this. I'm kind of an "all my cards on the table" kind of person. Like, let's just be honest and upfront with each other. These kinds of people are so much easier to interact with than people who aren't as upfront. So it's actually far more kind, it makes you a very nice person to just let people know where you stand. And just in case there's anyone watching this who is thinking, "Melannie, I try so hard, but I still just don't know what I'm doing," or, "Why does this have to be so hard? I just want to love and adore a woman and have her feel the same way about me." Is that what you're feeling right now? I totally get you. You're a wonderful man who wants to stop wasting your time and energy. You want to know what truly works and finally have attraction, love, and connection feel effortless. Honestly, can you imagine how different your life would be if love, attraction, and connection felt effortless? Imagine how that would feel. This is exactly why I created my Academy, my friend. So you can have a proven roadmap to the love and affection you deserve. So I can make it really, really simple for you instead of you having to just guess and hope it works. You now know what to do next. Get on that waiting list. Let's keep going with things you need to know about being too nice and dating. The next thing is, let's answer the question, "So what if women still pass you by? Why can you be a kind person, but still there are women who are falling for the total jerk?" Here's what we need to clarify. What kind of women are we talking about here? I'm just gonna be real for a second, okay? Do you really want a woman who's not smart enough to see when a man's a loser? Do you really want to spend your life with a woman like that? Why does she crave that kind of drama? There are a couple of reasons. She might be addicted to drama. She might be a toxic person. Maybe she's allowed herself to to be manipulated by him. Either way, she's a grown woman. This is her responsibility and her problem, not yours. You can't fix it. It's not your job. I know how frustrating it can be when there's someone, maybe someone you've even had feelings for, and you watch them make a really stupid choice. And it does kind of hit you a little bit and you think, "Why in the world would you choose them over me. And as just kind of a fun— well, fun— side note, women experience this as well, okay? Just like there are guys who watch these girls fall for these total jerks, these men who will never treat them right, yeah, women watch guys fall for toxic women all the time. As a matter of fact, that's one reason why many women try to show as much skin as possible. So they throw you completely off course and you don't even know what's happened. So this is not something that's exclusive to one or the other. Toxic people will do what toxic people do. That's why I try so hard to teach people about the signs of a toxic person. But that is a topic for another video. So if this is happening to you a lot, if you notice that all these women are just going and falling for losers instead of the kind men, Well, it's probably time to elevate the quality of women you're spending time with. And don't worry, I walk you through how to do this in my Academy. That's too much to go into in this video. But it's a very powerful thing when you're finally able to become magnetic to the type of high-quality people you want to be with. So again, make sure you're on that waitlist. There's a link in the description below. Let's sum up everything we've just gone over. I know we went over a lot, so let's kind of sum it up. The answer to the question, "Does being too nice backfire in dating?" is it depends. It depends on your definition of being nice. It is true that women are not attracted to men who have no ambition, who are pushovers, and never set boundaries. If this is your definition of nice, then yes, it will backfire. If Instead, you mean a man who is confident, who is kind, encouraging, sensitive. Well, then that right there is sexy. Also, pay attention to the quality of the women you're around. If they're falling for jerks a lot, it's probably time to elevate the type of women you're associating with and dating.
