AD AGE DECLARES INFLUENCER MARKETING DEAD, Twitter vetos the edit button and Facebook is #1 in 2019

Ad Age says influencer marketing is dead, but the real problem is brands chasing vanity metrics instead of real engagement. Twitter's CEO confirmed no edit button coming soon. Facebook stayed the most downloaded app in 2019, though TikTok might challenge that next year.

Good social media morning, guys. We are back at it. It's Thursday. Let's go. I hope you guys are having an amazing morning. So for those of you that are new here, what we do is we break down the latest in social media trends, updates, anything that's going on with great content out there. And if there's digital marketing news about conferences and events, we throw that out there for you as well. So if that sounds like something you would like in your daily feed, they're about 5 minutes long. You get in, you get out, you get everything you need. Just click the like, subscribe, whatever the button is on whatever platform you're listening or watching this on, and you're good to go. Let's get down to it. First and foremost, we're starting off the day with an article from Ad Age that has declared the end of influencer marketing. That's right. Ad Age has gone right out there and said influencer marketing needs to disappear in its entirety. Right or wrong, I want to hear your guys' opinion down below. My opinion is it's way off base. You, If you follow me at all on the social feeds, you know where I stand on influencer marketing, that the tool itself is not bad, but it needs to evolve because brands are using it wrong. Brands are focusing on vanity metrics, things like likes, subscribers, followers, instead of on actual engagement. But I would love to hear your thoughts down below in the comments. Let me know what's going on. And as always, guys, in the description for this video or podcast episode, you will find links to the article themselves. So you can see the article yourself, see what the writer has to say about the topic, and you can make your own conclusions. Sad news on the Twitter front, guys. The edit button is something that many people, especially myself with my fat fingers, has been calling for forever, and Jack has come out and told us effectively that it will not be happening. Do not expect an edit button on Twitter anytime soon. Sad news, I know, but that's the reality of it. LinkedIn is doing some great work with their company pages. Company pages for a long time have kinda gone unseen, unused, and unwanted, but now they are back at it full force. LinkedIn is enabling livestreaming for your company page, as well as the ability to invite people to like your company page. This is just a big thing that should have happened long ago and hasn't, and now it's here. So that's fantastic news. If you're on LinkedIn and you have a business page, take a look at this. I don't know that you'll have live functionality right away. I don't think it's open to everybody, but you can, if you apply for it, get it for your business page, which is massive. And the list has dropped for most downloaded apps on Apple and Android, and Facebook is still number one. I don't know, I don't know who's still downloading Facebook. I thought everybody had it, but apparently it's still number 1 in 2019. I can't wait to see what happens in 2020. I know TikTok was quickly on the rise. I can't wait to see Facebook dethroned, but for now, 2019, congratulations to Facebook. You guys are number 1. And finally for today, I know a while back we had a great breakdown of B2B marketing events on one massive list for you from Lisa Loeffler. Well, now there's another one out there from Sean O'Rourke that is all about social media events. That's right. If you're a social media fan, which I know we all are, here's a massive list of every event you could possibly imagine through 2020 in North America. So if that sounds like it's up your alley, go ahead, check that out. Link is down in the comments. That's it for today, guys. I hope that's helpful for you guys. There's lots of great stuff in there as far as updates. There's some content that's being seen as fairly controversial, but I'd love to hear— this podcast, this video series is still fairly new, guys. So if you have things that you wish you would see more of on here and you're not seeing enough of it, if you want me to Elaborate a bit more, give my spin on what's happening. If you guys want more of a say and you want me to go back to comments that you've made, just let me know down below. I'm looking to continue evolving the program until it really takes shape from what you guys need and want with your morning dose. So that being said, have an amazing day and I'll catch you tomorrow with another episode.
