Dan Willis reviews Mike Fallett's Attractive Storytelling, a practical guide for entrepreneurs. Willis recommends it for anyone needing actionable storytelling tactics.

But right now, guys, today we are looking at Attractive Storytelling by Mike Fallett. All right, we do a book review. I'm trying to do a book review at least once a week. Last week we did Daniel Priestley's Key Person of Influence. Um, but as you guys can see, the books are just constantly part of what I'm doing, constantly reading, consuming, and And I feel like it's important for us to share great resources back and forth. Now, if you are an author and you have a book that you'd like reviewed, let me know. I'm happy to do so. You can contact me on any of the social networks that I've got. They're down there in the comments below. Check those out. Shoot me a PM, a DM, a tweet, a whatever. Let me know that you've got a book that you would like me to review here on the channel. I'd be happy to do so. Now, I always give my honest interpretation of what the books are, what they look like, and what they sound like, and whether or not I feel that they're of value to entrepreneurs. So keep that in mind. If I don't feel like The value of the book is there. I'm going to be honest in the critique, so keep that in mind. But today, let's get down to this book. Is it worth the read? What's it about? How does it serve you? Is it worth picking up? Let's go. All right, guys. So as you can see, this book is not nearly as large as some of the other books that we've read on this review. And the reason for it is this: most books that you get out there are all about how to effectively tell a story. And those are the ones that I absolutely love the most, are the ones that are Okay, what's my personal story? How do I bring lessons alongside that and give you both at the same time so that you have an engaging real story that shows that I'm capable of doing what I'm saying while at the same time we've got, bam, here are these lessons that are here. Now, this book being a smaller book is not about that. This book is solely and corely a resource to help entrepreneurs break down and build up their own ability to storytell. Now, with that being said, this is literally a tutorial, a 101 on everything you need to know to storytell. If you want the deeper details of Mike Fallett and who he is and what he's about, he does an excellent job showcasing where you can find that. He's got a website for that. He makes a point of referring to it regularly. There are key ingredients that say, this is what this is about. This isn't my personal story. This is what you need to know to get started telling your story. So I really appreciated that out the gate he made that very, very, very clear. This book is literally a 101 course on attractive storytelling. For you as an entrepreneur. Now, is that important? Is that something crucial? Is that something vital? For me, I'm going to say absolutely 110% yes, it's vital. It's essential. You must, absolutely must have the ability to be an effective storyteller in today's market. If you, especially if you're going to be an entrepreneur, entrepreneur, but also if you're going to be a business owner, the ability to effectively tell a story, whether it's your purpose, your brand, your vision, your product, doesn't matter. You have to be able to tell a story effectively. Effectively in order to gain a community that's willing to come alongside you, be a part of what's happening where you are. So do I feel out the gate this book is a book worth reading? Yes, absolutely yes. So if you're just looking for the quick yes or no, do I grab the book, do I read it, the answer is yes. The link is always going to be down below for the books that I review. Whether I think you should read them or not, I leave that decision to you guys. But for me, I highly recommend that you grab this book because it does provide a very simple process that is a timeless process for how to effectively use storytelling. Now, when we looked at Daniel Priestley's book, Key Person of Influence, one of my critiques was I didn't feel like there was enough personalization in the book. So neither of these books has a deep depth of personalization, but the difference between Key Person of Influence and Attractive Storytelling is this isn't meant to have a long story. This is supposed to be a CliffsNotes referral guide to how to have attractive storytelling. This one here, the information that they put into it wasn't timeless. There's stuff in here that was flavor of the week, motivational, at-the-moment stuff that isn't going to last forever. The process that's laid out in Attractive Storytelling is actually phenomenal. It is timeless stuff. It is a platform to give you foundational skills that you can use regardless of how the technology evolves. It's not going to tell you to go and open up a MySpace account like it did 10 years ago. It's giving you processes that you need to work through, push through, and you'll have success doing it. So that's the overview of it, guys. That's, that's my thoughts on should you grab the book? Why is that? What's the premise? How does it compare to other books that we've done in the past? Now I want to get down to the nitty-gritty of some key points that I really feel bring great value to you as an entrepreneur and give you a bit of a sneak peek as to what the book offers. So let's do that. Okay guys, so the first thing that I really love about the lessons in this book are this: they are kept so super simple. What he does is Mike takes us in from the go and says, here it is, here's the platform, know what it's about. I'm going to come alongside. I will give you, when I tell you to do something, I will tell you this is something I've done in the past. These are the results that I've had, or here's what somebody else has done. They've used this technique, they've used this strategy, or I've encouraged them to use it through my program. And bam, this is the results that we've received through that method. So everything that's in here is tried, tested, and true. Somebody out there, an entrepreneur just like you, has taken the time to take this, step of the process and use it. And this is how they used it, and this is the effect that they found with it. So that is always crucial for me, is that— is the step simple? Is it reproducible? Is it something that has actually worked in the real world? Great. Those 3 things are often huge qualifiers that are missed in a lot of these entrepreneur-focused books. They will have bits and pieces of that where, well, yeah, it was effective and somebody actually did it, but it's not reproducible because it was exclusive to that this one person. So take Will Smith for example. He opened up a YouTube channel, had monumental success. Congratulations, Will. I think that's great that there's Hollywood celebrities that are coming onto the platform and legitimizes the platform. But the reality is this, is that something that Will Smith could write a book on and say, this is easily reproducible? No, no, he couldn't clearly, right? Because the reality is the success of that progress, the success of that process came solely out of his personality and his brand that he had already built. He can't give that as a resource of just start a YouTube channel, be consistent, do great stuff with it, and you'll instantly hit that massive success that he has hit. He's only been able to hit that success because of who he is, so it's not reproducible. The other one is you get characters out there that write books about things that they haven't done but they've read from other books. So you read a dozen of these books, you read Tim Ferriss, you read Tools of the Titans, you read Gary Vaynerchuk's Crushing It, and you go, okay, I've got all this information, I'm gonna write my own book, throw it out there, Have I ever done it? Have I ever used it? No. Okay, well great. So you know that other people have done it. That's okay. But the reality is you've never been a part of that process. You haven't coached people to do that. You haven't walked people through that. You haven't used it yourself. And for me, that information falls pretty flat. The information here in Mike's book, it always comes accompanied with, here's the point that I'm trying to give you. It's part of the foundational process. I have used it or I have coached somebody through the process of using it. And here are the results that we've received. The worst information out there in these motivational books, guys, is here is a great idea, here's me doing it, it's easily reproducible, but I'm not going to give you the results. And that one is the worst. Like, if you read a book like that, red caution, red flag goes up, don't go any further with it. If they can't give you the direct results of this is what this did, this is how I did it, and here are the results from it— those results are so key. And Mike doesn't shirk from that. Step by step through the process, he says Here it is. Here's how it's done. Here's how you can do it. Here's who did it before you, and here are the results you can expect from it. So crucial, so vital, so simple. Loved it. Now, going into it, guys, I said at the gate my favorite books, my absolute favorite ones, are the ones that have a major depth of personal story, like Anthony Lawley's book back there, Heart of the Deal. I love when people take their personal experiences, pull them alongside the story. This book sadly doesn't have that, but I know Mike is going to write more books down the road. Hopefully we can see that from him. Mike actually has a Dream Starter University where he helps entrepreneurs write books, get their books written and out there. Now, what do I mean by helps writes? He does the same thing that people do for guys like Gary Vee, right? Gary Vee doesn't have the time to write a book, so he has an agency come alongside, take a look, listen to his story, listen to what he's saying, listen to what he's doing on his podcasts, on his videos, and from that they craft content into a book that is a cohesive storytelling tool that he's able to get out to the market, share his experience, share his passion, Share his vision, share his lessons, and people can pull from that. Gary doesn't sit down and type away a book. Gary gives people his ideas and concepts. Somebody writes them for him called ghostwriting, and ghostwriting used to have a negative connotation. No longer. Most professionals out there have a book. It'll be hard pressed for you to think of an entrepreneur that doesn't have a book on the market. Every entrepreneur out there that is a major entrepreneur succeeding in the world has a book on the market somewhere, and I would say the majority of them have. Haven't ever touched a keyboard to make that happen other than maybe writing an email saying, hey, can you get somebody to write this book for me? Okay. The reality is Mike has done a phenomenal job telling people, if you can't afford to have a ghostwritten book, here's the process that we go through to make that happen. Now, is it going to be to your benefit to realize that there's a lot that goes into this process and to have an agency behind you will clearly help? Yes. So I love the book for that. He's honest about that. He doesn't shirk it. He doesn't tiptoe around it. He makes it pointedly clear this is a process that you can follow on your own. You can do that, but having an agency come behind you, being a part of the Dream Starter University, can go a huge distance. Now, as somebody personally who has written 3 books up on Amazon— again, link down below if you guys want to check that out— my books are written by myself. I publish them myself, self-publishing through Amazon. I promote them myself, and I've had some minimal success to that. As soon as I came across this though, Mike sent this to me. I read it. I went, man, this is exactly the process I had to go through to get my book online. It was frustrating. It was time-consuming. It did pull me away from other objectives that I had at the time. And if I had the ability to use a company that understood this process, it would have saved me so much time. So I love that Mike is out front with that. He doesn't hide it. He doesn't tiptoe around it. It's, this is the process. This is how it works. It does take time. It does take effort. And there is a way that you can go through this process Without you having to donate all that time to make it happen. So I love that. The only criticism I provide for this book is I want more of Mike's story. I really do. The art on this is beautiful. The concept behind it, the platform, I just want a little bit more of Mike's story. I'd love to see this book fleshed out into an eventual anthology of stories of people who have used the process and this is what it looked like and here's their book and here's how they succeeded. But that's not to say I wouldn't recommend you read— you don't read the book because of that. I think you should grab the book, read it, because the process itself, just to have the Cliff's Notes of each pointed actionable in this book, is going to be so helpful to you as an entrepreneur getting your storytelling out there to the world. Okay? So definitely recommend the book for that. Go out there, grab it, take a look at it. It's on Amazon. It is so worth the read. Don't miss out on it. That's it for today though, guys. I hope you appreciate the review. I hope you understand it. Again, Dreamstarter University, I believe, has a website that you can check out if you're interested in Mike and what he does. It is here. Yeah, dreamstartersuniversity.com. I'll put that link down below. You can check that out for more details. You can find his book on Amazon. If you have a book that you've written yourself, like I said, feel free to PM me, DM me, contact me on any of the social networks that are listed below. I'm happy to take a look at your book. We can discuss what that looks like and how that works. If you guys have book recommendations for me, let me know down below. That's always the question of the day on Book Review Day. What book are you reading right now that I should get my hands on? Let me know down below, and I will catch you tomorrow with another great video, guys. See you then.
