In this solo YouTube video, Dan Willis of millennialmotivator.ca shares his personal experience of abstaining from alcohol for almost a full year, starting New Year's Eve 2017. He outlines the three biggest benefits he observed: substantial financial savings (about $300 per month) that he redirected into his business, leading to new contracts and growth; increased mental clarity and early‑morning productivity, allowing him to wake up refreshed, work efficiently at 4:30 AM, and retain clearer memories of social events; and overall health improvements, including more energy, reduced sluggishness, and quicker idea generation. Willis also notes that sobriety enhanced his personal and professional relationships by reducing grogginess and fuzzy thinking. He encourages viewers to examine their own alcohol spending, consider the potential benefits of cutting back, and invites questions in the comments. The video also references his upcoming “312 Project” of producing 312 videos in 2019.

Just a reminder, guys, in the new year, the 312 Project is happening. That's right, 312 videos is the target for 2019. I'm getting back into the habit of daily videos, slowly getting back into it here at the end of December, but by January we will be full steam. Today though, what we're talking about is alcohol and giving it up for a year and what the benefits are. Now, I would be a hypocrite if I'm sitting here telling you guys, oh, I love to drink, let me tell you the benefits of not drinking. The reality is in 2018, starting on New Year's Eve of 2017, I gave up alcohol. It has been an almost entire year. We're, we're the 19th of December today, and I've had some amazing things happen over the year. I want to share the biggest benefits with you guys today so that if that's something you're struggling with, you can consider it. If it's not something you're struggling with, you might consider it anyway, given how big these benefits were. Let's go. All right guys, first and foremost, and this one's a huge one, it's got to be the cash, the dollars, the money. That's right. Giving up alcohol for a year may not seem like a big deal to anybody, but the reality is this: I made a point not only in giving up the alcohol to save money on it, but also to make a point taking that money that I save and putting it back into my business. All right, now for some of you who are just social drinkers, you don't drink that often, that may not be a huge deal for you guys. However, for myself, I'm a huge fan of drinking Scotch, and let me tell you, being a Scotch fan, you spend a lot of money. What it turned out being was close to $300 a month that I was dropping into a bottle. Now, suffice it to say, putting $300 not into a bottle and into my business had monumental effect over my business. I saw huge growth this year— new contracts, new clients, new connections— all because I was able to drop that. Now, It may not be life-changing for you guys, but I want you to sit down and actually take a look at your spending for the year. Take a look at just last month. How much did you drop at a club, at a bar, at a, at a beer store, at a, at a spirit store? How much did you drop into a bottle? What could you use that money for? Go on a cruise, maybe make a car payment. It's a big benefit, guys. I saved a lot of cash over the year and And it was a huge deal. So that's the first one. You save a lot of money. Number 2, guys, has got to be clarity. Now, this is an obvious one for a lot of people out there, but when you aren't drinking consistently, you are constantly waking up fresh. You had a good night's sleep. You don't wake up groggy. You don't wake up trying to fight the monster that is the night before. You wake up clear, focused, ready to roll. 4:30 AM started to become easy for me instead of a struggle to wrestle myself out of bed every day. A lot of that benefit transitioned into how productive I could make those hours. Instead of it taking me an hour to get up and go because I needed to have a shower to wake up and then a coffee to wake up, and then I needed to get my head on straight. Instead, I could just dive into it and make those first hours of the day super productive. The clarity though wasn't always on the top end. It also happened on the bottom end. I was able to go out with friends and actually enjoy experiences and be clear-minded. I was able to make better decisions and actually feel like I was a part of it. And I found that my memories were actually better of those events than when I had been drinking all the time. So that clarity of mind has benefits not just professionally, but in your personal life as well. Last but not least, guys, the health factor. Now, I can't tell you— I'm not a physician. I can't go in there and inspect my liver for you guys and say, oh, it looks a lot healthier than it was. But I can tell you this: overall, I feel healthier. I've got more energy. I don't feel sluggish. I don't feel like I'm slothful in the day. My ideas come quicker to me. And I think this is largely attributed to the fact that I wasn't drinking. Now, I'm not gonna say that everybody that goes out there and has an occasional drink, a beer here, a glass of wine there, is gonna have this terrible health out there. In fact, there are studies that show that a glass of wine a day or a single glass of scotch a day is okay for you. It's actually beneficial to your health. However, often I know for myself and many of you out there, It doesn't stop at one drink, and that's where the crux of the problem lies. So ultimately, guys, I found more finances in my pocket, better health, and I was able to put all of my attention and focus into my personal relationships and my professional business without being groggy and fuzzy. That's it for today's video though, guys. I hope you enjoyed it. I hope some of these are worthwhile to you. If you have any questions about the year, ask me down in the questions below. I'd be happy to answer you. And I hope you guys have an amazing holiday. Consider though, as you go to take that next drink, is it really what you want to do?
