#christian #devotional #wisdom skip the vomit, don't be a fool

Dan Willis uses Proverbs 26 to argue that repeating the same mistakes is repulsive to God and others. He confesses his own recurring sins and urges listeners to break harmful cycles, repent, or set boundaries with people who refuse to change.
Chapters
So today we're in Proverbs 26, and this is the chapter of fools. This chapter is loaded from start to finish with fools are like this, don't be around fools, fools will do this, and it has possibly one of the grossest verses in Scripture. So that's obviously the one that stuck with me today. So the verse is in the text up above, but the concept is a fool that returns to the same foolish ideas, the same foolish actions over and over and over again is like a dog returning to eat his own vomit. I'm sorry if you haven't had breakfast yet, but like the graphic imagery of this is one that is necessary, I think. When you consider a fool that constantly keeps repeating the same mistake over and over and over and over and over, it should give us that same repulsion, that same disgusting feeling That watching a dog eat something and vomit it up and eat something, eat the vomit and then vomit it back up and then do it over and over and over again. It makes us wonder what's going through their mind. It really grosses us out because clearly that wasn't a good thing the first time. How could it possibly be good the second time? They haven't learned the lesson of the pain or grossness of the first time around. There's a lot of this. There's a lot of this. I'm guilty of this in my own life where I keep making the same mistakes. We see Paul say in scripture, I do the thing that I don't want to do. want to do, and I don't do the thing that I want to do. We all have these moments of foolishness, but there has to come a point where you look at that and go, am I, am I doing that disgusting, repulsive thing? And do I myself have that disgust for the things that I'm doing, that action that I've taken? I think when we start to get that right mindset, that right frame of mind where we're looking at things the way God does, of when I see a foolish action, do I forgive it? Yes, so does God. God also looks on us and gives us forgiveness for the foolish actions we take. But when we constantly and consistently choose to keep coming back to the vomit, it's repulsive. It's not something that's attractive. It's not something that's endearing to God. It's not something that builds a closer relationship to God. It makes people want to pull away from you. And not just God, in our day-to-day, in our personal relationships, it has that same effect. So take a moment and just consider, always consider ourselves first of, do we have things in our own life that we keep coming back to? And maybe we should stop. Maybe we could just Just realize for a moment how disgusting that is. But also, if we have people in our lives that continue to do the same thing without any effort, without any care or compassion or recognition of what they have done, and they keep doing it, maybe it's time to consider whether that's something that we want to keep watching. Maybe that's something that we need to either
