How to Create Your Own GIFS (Giphy)

Dan Willis shows how to make a custom GIF on Giphy from start to finish. Upload a video, trim it, add stickers and captions, then download it for Twitter or other platforms. Your GIF won't show up in Giphy's built-in search right away.

Alright guys, today we're gonna teach you how to make your very own custom GIFs with Giphy. Let's go! Alright guys, so this morning I wanted to show you guys, and we tried to do this live, it just didn't work with the upload. So I'm gonna show you guys how to create a custom GIF here on Giphy. For those of you that have seen my custom GIFs in Twitter chats, you know that's just a fast way to kind of switch it up. You don't get an image, but you do get some great conversational GIFs that you can use that pop out from the feed. They help you join the conversation quick and easy. So today we're gonna do a great idea one. So it's gonna have a little light bulb hopefully, and let's see how we go about creating this. So first step, go to Giphy, create your profile if you haven't already done that. You'll see that my profile is already logged in. So we're just gonna get right into this here, and we're gonna head over to create, choose a video. I do have a short video already laid out for this. So we'll hit the upload on that. I'm just gonna let this upload here and we will come up right there. Okay, perfect. So it's already there. It's uploaded. We've got it. You'll see that it doesn't always sync up exactly the way that you want to. It could be too long or too short. So now this is as simple as you just shorten how long you want this to be. Make it a little bit longer. Maybe a little shorter. A little bit shorter. Okay, now you go to continue to decorate. Stickers. I'm gonna want a light bulb. Just move that down. Caption, great idea. You guys can see that it's, it's pretty quick. It's just plug and play. Let's put a couple of these in here. And that's it. Continue to upload. You can enter in your source. I'll put in my website. Enter some tags so people can find it if they so choose. So the tags are there, people can find that inside the Giphy database, and bam, you're off and running. You just click upload to Giphy, it's there. Now, this is always in your profile, people can search this on Giphy and use it. Eventually, it may pop into the Giphy tools inside Twitter or Facebook. I know most of mine haven't. So what I like to do is download the media and download the social version. Just add it to my GIF library here. Voilà. And that's it. All done. Now I can use that GIF. Head over here into Twitter. And if I wanted to use it in a GIF, probably won't show up here. I don't know if any of mine will. Yeah, no, mine don't show up in here, but what you can do is actually just head to the image, go to where you saved your GIF, and it is— where'd it go? Super idea. Et voilà, there it is. You've got it. It's ready to roll. It's that simple, guys. I hope this helps.
