How to Make A Lasting Resolution

Don't tie goals to dates like New Year's, because motivation dies when the date passes. Instead, find your personal why and commit to a concrete daily action. The presenter makes a YouTube video six days a week, not just aiming to grow his channel.

Tired of making a new resolution every New Year and not following through on it? Stay tuned, I'm gonna teach you how to make a resolution that lasts. It's a wonderful season, guys. It's Christmas, so Merry Christmas to all you guys. We're gonna keep making videos here every day, Monday through Saturday, so even if Christmas falls in, I'll still do a Christmas video. I can't make any excuses on that. But every year when we get around this time, people start to think about which New Year's resolution they're gonna put into place. They're gonna lose weight, they're gonna start a new business, maybe a side hustle. Are they gonna start a YouTube channel? The reality is there's lots of great resolutions that come out every year, and I love this time of year because people get dialed in. They say, okay, I'm gonna start fresh, I'm gonna do something amazing, it's gonna be awesome, we're gonna make this happen. But the reality is, what we end up seeing is really ground and pound. We see every machine at the gym filled with people for about 2 and a half weeks, and then nobody's home. And this kills me. I really want people to succeed when they create new goals, when they create resolutions. A resolution is something that's supposed to be unflinching, unwavering. You're gonna commit and convict to it. So, I wanted to give you guys some pointers that are gonna help you create some lasting resolutions that you find stick through all the way till next year. Let's go. So you'll notice that I've said resolution and not New Year's resolution. And the reason behind it is this: if you make the date the reason why you're doing something, it's not gonna last because that date's gonna pass, and that's where your interest and your focus leave. Okay guys, so you've gotta drop the dates— not birthday, Christmas, anniversary, New Year's, St. Patrick's 3rd Thursday of the month. Get rid of it. Get rid of the date. It's not gonna help you strive for a goal and achieve what you want. Instead, what you need to do is find purpose, okay guys? And that's gonna get us to point number 2. Point number 2, if you're gonna get a resolution that sticks and lasts, you've gotta visit your why. Come back to your why. If you guys haven't seen the Simon Sinek video or book— so he did a great TED Talk— or read his book, Finding Your Why, you really should do that, okay? Having a purpose that drives your resolution will make it last more effectively than anything else. If your resolution, if your new concept that you're gonna use to better yourself is driven by your why, your purpose, what you hope to achieve as a life goal, if that's what's driving this new resolution, it's gonna have a staying lasting power. And the biggest reason behind that is You are gonna have a genuine passion to achieve whatever the resolution was intended to set up. So, number 1, scrap the date. Number 2, find your why. Give it a purpose. Mold your resolution around your meaning. Last but not least, guys, this is the single step on a journey of 1,000 miles concept, okay? A lot of people have heard it a lot of times, but they forget it when it Comes to making these resolutions. Instead, what they do is they go, here's the big goal. I wanna lose 50 pounds by the end of next year. Great. What's the daily action you need to take? That should be the resolution. It's great to have that goal at the end, but that's not a resolution. Your goal is not a resolution. The resolution is the action you are committing to taking every day in order to achieve the goal that you want. So, for myself, I wanted a YouTube channel. And not just a YouTube channel, I had hoped to create a successful YouTube channel. Now, I watched a ton of videos by great guys out there, Derral Eves and Roberto Blake and all these great guys on how to create a YouTube channel. And the thing that they kept saying over and over and over again was consistent quality content. That's it. Do it. So that became really easy. I can make a video a day. What should I do? Make a video a day. Really amazing ability to do that. It made it a simple daily process, and that way, instead of me focusing on, well, I want a massive whatever, platinum button on the wall or whatever, the reality is what I want to do is make a video every day. That's my resolution. That's what I'm going to do. Monday through Saturday, I'm going to pump out a video. That's it, guys. Which of these is going to add to your resolution? What haven't you added to your resolution process? Are you fixed? Are you unsure of a daily activity that's gonna drive you towards your goal? Let me know down in the comments below. If you're new to the station, go ahead and subscribe. The button's right there. You can press it. Thank you so much for watching, and if you know anybody else that's having problems setting up a lasting New Year's resolution, share the video. Take it easy, guys. We'll catch you tomorrow with another video.
