How to Make More Time for Your Side Hustle

Dan Willis shares four ways to carve out time for a side hustle: wake up as early as 4:30 AM, treat every minute as valuable, set measurable goals, and cut leisure distractions like Netflix. He challenges you to wake up half an hour earlier tomorrow and track the results.

Putting out videos here Monday through Saturday in 2019 as part of Project 312, 312 videos for you helping you to grow your business. And today we are talking about the side hustle. Now for some of you, you're full-time entrepreneurs, full-time business owners, and that's your bread and butter, and these will still apply to you. But really, this is for those people that are trying to get a side hustle going and just don't seem to have the time. So if that's you, Take a moment, get your notepad, get a cup of coffee, and let's sit down and talk about this. Early bird gets the worm. That's the name of the game, right? Early to bed, early to rise, healthy, wealthy, and wise. That's how this is supposed to work, guys. Now, I know for a lot of you, you're tired just like me. I've got 8 kids, I've got a wonderful wife, I've got responsibilities around the home, and I've got my consultancy on top of my side hustles. But if I want to make them happen, they have to have dedicated time. So I make a point of rising early in the day. 4:30 AM is my start time, and I use those hours of silence outside of the traditional workday to put the effort in on my side hustle. Now I understand 4:30 may be a little staggering for you at first, and I didn't just jump to that. I worked my way up to it. So at first it was from 6:30 till 6, then to 5:30, then to 5, now at 4:30. And the reality is when you make those small incremental changes to the start of your day, you actually get a lot of stuff done. You see the potential in the strategy and it starts to build. So my big challenge for you on this first point is take tomorrow and get up a half hour earlier. Just dedicate that half hour that you would normally be in bed sleeping to your side hustle. See what the results are. Rinse and repeat. Number 2, guys, every minute counts. What do I mean by this? Often when we get up and we use that early time that we have, or we use our side hustle time, we allow ourselves to move slowly to the task. Picture a runner on the starting line, right? Ready, set, go! And instead of jumping out and running through into the gate, we move to a small walk, slowly work it up to a jog, and then we're running eventually. We don't have the time for that. If you've got a side hustle that you want to dedicate time to, And you've only got a limited window. Use that window effectively. Don't waste your time on small side projects that don't need to be done. Focus on what needs to happen to push that side hustle forward. Okay guys, it goes without saying that you should have goals and targets you're working towards. Every minute should be dedicated to reaching those goals and targets. Last but certainly not least is cut the crap. What do I mean by cut the crap? Well, I love hearing from people, I don't have time to put into my side hustle, I don't have time to build my business, and then they proceed to tell me how they binge-watch the latest you name it on Netflix, or every episode of Game of Thrones, or they spent 8 hours on YouTube watching the next cat video. The reality is, guys, we often allow ourselves leisure time when we don't want leisure time. We want our side hustle to explode. If your leisure time is killing your side hustle, It's a simple solution, guys. Cut the crap. Get rid of it. If you've got it, remove your Netflix subscription. Do it. If you have to block YouTube on your browser for a time, do it. And I know as somebody creating YouTube videos, that sounds crazy that I'm telling you to not be on YouTube. But if it's killing your side hustle, I would rather you not watch another one of my videos ever, so long as you take that time and and go and do something with your business. We allow so much of our time, the most valuable asset that a side hustle or a small business has, to go unused. Ditch the crap, find a way to make your side hustle the focus. Move towards those goals and targets. That's it for this video though, guys. Make sure you're rising early to the task. Make sure when you're on task, you are on task. Quick off the block, ready, set, go. And last but not least, Ditch the distractions, guys. You don't need them. They're not going to help you get where you want to go, and the quicker you drop them, the better off your business is going to be. I hope this stuff helps, guys. Let me know down below in the comments which one of these is the biggest help to you. And if you know somebody out there that has a side hustle that just isn't happening, send them my way. I'd be happy to give them a hand. Catch you tomorrow with another great video. Later. Bye.
