What we're going to break down here are 6 steps, 6 things that you can do to start seeing success in trading the market, play the game and win. Let's start with this. I want you to picture playing the stock market like a pro sport. There are always going to be people that like to watch sports on TV and like to watch the pros do it. That would be somebody who likes to take their financial portfolio, hand it over to a financial advisor and just let them play the game. They're the pros, let them play it. There's nothing wrong with that. That can be an excellent way to go if you find a great financial advisor that can produce some phenomenal results for you. There's nothing wrong with that. Then you've got some guys that are amateurs. They don't play in the pro leagues, but they don't just sit on the couch. They actually play it. They dabble in it a little bit. That would be the people that are just getting started in the market. They may not manage their entire portfolio, but they take a shot at it every now and again. Last but not least, you've got the pros in the market. Obviously, guys, the pros are the ones that are managing their portfolios full-time. There are retail traders like myself. There are people that work in hedge funds, all kinds of people out there that are managing their portfolios actively. Okay, so we've got the players. The game is The stock market, for the sake of the metaphor. As you guys are going into this, what you need to realize is in any sport, if you're going to compare this to a pro sport— baseball, hockey, football, you name it— first thing you need to do before you play the sport is understand the rules. And this is a big thing where I think a lot of people are going to get hurt in a big way when they head into the market. They don't take the time to understand the simple foundational things about the market. How do I buy? How do I sell? What is a brokerage? What are the fees associated with that? Is zero commission really zero commission? And YouTube is a great place to find all kinds of video with that information. Reaching out to a financial advisor can actually help clarify that as well. They can often clarify those little points and help you get a better understanding of how the market actually works. But the first step for success that you guys are looking for is understand the rules of the game. Read, read, read. Investopedia, YouTube, financial advisors, seek it out. The information's out there. Depending on what country you're in, Canada, US, Europe, they've got all their own individual sets of rules. So you have to understand the rules you're playing by. If you don't understand the rules, chances are you're going to dive in, you're going to get caught, Called out on a rule and not realize that you had done anything wrong. So please, first step, understand the rules of the market. Find out what the rules are in your country. If you're not sure how to do that, if YouTube and Investopedia and online tools aren't working for you, reach out to a financial advisor. So what we're gonna break down here are 6 steps, 6 things that you can do to start seeing success in trading the market, play the game and win, okay? So let's start with this. If you're not sure how to do that, if YouTube and Investopedia and online tools aren't working for you, reach out to a financial advisor. Next up, when you're playing the game, guys, it's not just about knowing the rules, but it's having the right tools for the game. It does you no good if you show up to play hockey and all you've got is one skate, a helmet, and, you know, a baseball bat. It's just not gonna do it for you. You have to make sure you have the right tools in order to succeed. So what are some of the right tools looking like for it? A correct brokerage. So a really good brokerage, guys, is gonna be a huge tool for you. It's gonna be what you make your trades trades on daily, it's going to be a huge support for you. Please take the time and really vet which platforms you are going to use to do your trading on. Now there's a few that I use personally. I use TD for my equity, I use Interactive Brokers for my options, I use Webull to get my secondary levels, but I'm using all of these different tools for different purposes. So you really have to make sure that you understand what you're getting out of your brokerage. Not all brokerages are the same. I highly recommend you take a second thought if you're going to move into one of those zero-commission platforms to do your active trading on. Please guys, things like Robinhood, things like Webull to do your active trading, be very, very cautious as to why it's free. Remember, if something is free, you're the product, okay? Just be clear, know what you're using, get the right tools, get your data, have an understanding of how to do the trades effectively on it, make sure you're getting the fills you want. If you're looking for, uh, pre-market or after-hour ability, have that in there, but have the right tools, guys. As far as your ability to analyze in real time the data that's going on in the market and to make trades effectively and get the fills you want, having a brokerage is crucial. Make sure you show up to play the game using the right tools. Next up, if you want to get good at game, you got to practice, right? So if we're playing a sport, we're going to go out there, we're going to hit the practice field, we're going to hit the gym, we're going to get fit, we're going to do those things. In the market, that looks like this, guys. You putting in the time, reading a lot of books, understanding what's going on out there, uh, trying to craft your own trading methodology. I've got a reading list that I make available to you guys down below. It's got all the books that I've used to make my own trading methodology. There's lots of stuff that you can read constantly. News lines, headlines, professional analysis. You've got Investopedia, which is just a wealth of knowledge. You've got people here on YouTube that you can dive into a whole bunch of different fields and trading styles and try to understand the market a little bit more effectively. But make sure, guys, that you are constantly practicing. As far as paper trading, guys, go, this is a personal opinion of mine. There's a lot of people out there that are a big fan of saying, you know, start off with paper trading, test your concept, your understanding, and then move into real market. I'm not a fan of that. And for me, guys, I had to get in the market with real money. Otherwise, you pick up bad habits real quickly. If you're playing pretend against imaginary numbers, you tend to pick up bad habits real fast. And as anybody will tell you in a professional sport, if you pick up bad form at the beginning, it's really hard to break that as you move down the road. I find that when you trade in real money, even if it's small amounts of real money, when you've got real dollars on the line, that risk is there. You're constantly aware of that. You're not overleveraging yourself. You're not taking positions that are too large. You're not holding on too long hoping that it comes back. Um, you're profit taking, you've got a strategy, real dollars, slow, steady, and be meticulous in how you're practicing. If you're trying a new strategy, you're trying a new sector, make sure that you take the time to really practice, understand, look at that, understand what you're looking at on the charts, understand what the news is, understanding what the catalysts are that move it. Okay? That's going to be a big deal, but practice is essential, guys. When you lose in a position, make sure that you're tracking Why did that go wrong? Why didn't that go the way I thought? When you take a win, analyze that as well. Why did I win? Why did that do well? How did that come together for me at the end of the day? Definitely worth checking out. So that's the next step is make sure that you practice and practice consistently in the real world. No funny numbers, no paper sheet. Next up, what we're going to be doing, guys, is as you're trading and as you're growing as a trader, your trading methodology today is going to be different than tomorrow is going to be different from the next day. There's a lot of people that point to guys like Warren Buffett. There's guys that point to Charlie Munger or Carl Icahn and say they've been doing the same thing forever. Bullshit. They have not been doing the same thing forever. They have strategies that they've evolved over time. The market is constantly changing and they change alongside it. That doesn't mean, however, that they aren't doing something very similar to what I'm about to recommend to you. When you win, make sure that you analyze your wins. Why did I win? Why did that work? Can I do that again? Is that repeatable? Was that a one-off? If you lose, same thing, analyze it. Why did I lose? How did that happen? Is there something I should have done differently? Constantly have that and have that evolving trading methodology. What you're going to find over time is that your strengths improve and they get stronger and stronger and stronger, which is when you see guys like Buffett coming out there and saying, well, I've been doing this for 30 years. Yeah, he has been doing it for 30 years, but how he traded in his first couple years versus after he did the Berkshire Hathaway thing and he got an insurance company and was trading premiums and all that jazz, it's completely different. The scale of it changed, the methodology of it changed, the whole thing took shape By him evaluating his wins and his losses. Keep that in mind, guys. It's gonna be so crucial that when you fail, when you lose, you learn from it. And when you win, you learn from it. That's a great way to ensure that you're gonna get better and better and better if you were to play this. Okay? Last step, guys. I know a lot of this has been like drinking from a fire hose. It's a lot of information at once. Make sure to go back, rewatch the other steps if you're confused about where you are in that process. The last step is go back to step 1 anyway. Okay? So any professional athlete is always going to be reevaluating. Have the rules of the game changed? You see a new season in the NFL. Are there rule changes? Has the game changed? Are we seeing new gear? Are we seeing new tactics, new strategies? Have the actual rules themselves changed? Constantly be aware of that as somebody who's in the market and trading. Are the rules changing? We are getting new rules all the time. Is the market changing? Is the environment of the market changing? Are we looking at a growing market, a bull market? Are we looking at a bearish market? Are we looking? All kinds of things can happen, guys. Please, please, please be aware. We are in extremely volatile times with the market right now. We went on a crazy year yesterday. We're at all-time— last year we had all-time highs. Right now is we're floating around at, despite being in the midst of a global pandemic. Please, please, please be aware. Reevaluate. What are the rules of the game? What's the game that I'm playing? How does that work right now? And constantly be evaluating. Okay, do I have the right tools still given that the market is the way that it is? Am I constantly learning, growing, adapting, evolving? Always go through the cycle, guys. Constantly be cycling through these steps. And what you're going to find is a lot more consistent success as you're constantly reevaluating. Am I where I'm supposed to be? Do I have the tools to succeed? Am I learning from my mistakes? Am I constantly growing and learning about what's happening in the market? What I need to be learning for is my trading methodology growing alongside my experience. All of these are super important, guys. And again, always be evaluating: Is this something that I should continue doing? There are lots of traders who have taken breaks for years. They come away from the market. They go do something else. They come back. There's lots of people that just say, "You know what? At this point, I'm happy to hand it over to a professional." I'm not seeing the results that I want. There's nothing wrong with that. There's no shame there. That is it though, guys. It's really that to get started. If you're looking to play the market and win, just be aware of those steps and you get off and running. Now I'd love to hear your thoughts down below where you guys are, things that you're struggling with. I'm going to be putting out these videos every day in the afternoon after I'm done my livestream in the morning. So if you guys have topics that you want me to cover, let me know down below.
