How to Reach 1000 SUBSCRIBERS (Simple and Effective)

Dan Willis breaks down reaching 1,000 YouTube subscribers into three parts: build community by commenting on other creators' videos and replying to every comment on yours, repurpose each video across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and LinkedIn, and accept slow growth, maybe one subscriber a day, while staying consistent.

If you're new to the channel, click that subscribe button down there, the little bell, you'll get notified when I go live next. Put out videos here Monday through Saturday, helping you learn how to grow your business online. Today, what we're looking at is how to get to 1,000 subscribers. Now, I didn't put out a video on this when I hit the 1,000 subscriber mark because I wanted to make sure I had all the systems in place and I continued to see growth before I started giving tips. I'm huge on that. If I haven't succeeded at doing myself, I don't like to give tips and pointers to others on how to do it. It's just a personal preference of mine. I know there's lots of people out there that are happy to create videos of how to get to 100,000, how to get to 250,000, how to get to a million. and they look at other people that have done that. For me personally though, unless I can understand and appreciate the time, effort, and process that goes into reaching a milestone, I don't feel qualified or prepared to speak on the topic. Now, that being said, we are quickly approaching the 2,000 subscriber mark here on this channel, so I now feel qualified to give you guys a few tips and pointers that will get you to 1,000 subscribers. So without further ado, let's go. All right guys, number 1, the biggest thing that you need to do to hit 1,000 subscribers is Build a community. Build a community. One more time just for repetition, build a community. The reason why I emphasize community over any other strategy for getting to 1,000 subscribers is this. Building a community seems to be something that will carry on not only from the beginning of your channel up to 100 subscribers, but from now all the way through till, you know, let's aim big. Let's say 1 million subscribers. The reality is this, guys. Any major YouTuber out there, whether they've got 100 subscribers, 1,000, 10,000, 1 million, doesn't matter. All of them have a unique community that regularly engages with their content. So you should focus on building that community from the ground up. What does that look like, building a community? Number 1, go out and find a bunch of channels that are similar to yours in your niche that you watch and inspire you, that have similar content. Make sure that you've got notifications on every single one of those channels. Make sure that when a new video pops up on one of those channels, you are one of the first people in there commenting, being a part of that community. Now, I am not saying to hijack their community. Don't go into another channel. Don't pop into Casey Neistat and say, come check out my channel. Here's my link. That's crap. It's not going to work for you. Nobody's going to click on that. And if anything, it's just going to get you deleted or reported for spam. So don't do that. What you want to do though is be an active part of those communities. Talk, share ideas, share thoughts. People will come to know you and organically through your contribution to the other communities in your niche, you will see people start to trickle in. It won't be a flood, guys. It will be little bits and pieces here and there. But I've noticed by being consistent in hitting the channels that I love to watch, so Peter McKinnon, Casey Neistat, Sarah Neichi, Roberto Blake, Derral Eves, Tim Schmoyer, Sean Cannell, Video Creators, Video Influencers, these channels are ones that I watch on the daily if I can. Some of them only put out content once a week like Sarah Neichi, but the reality is I try to consume their content, process what's going through. Tom Bilyeu, another guy, love Tom Bilyeu. If you haven't checked out Impact Theory, go check that out. Go now. Go seriously, leave my video, go check it out. But anyway, all of those great communities, I love to be one of the first ones in there commenting, giving my feedback on what I see, what I like, what I didn't like, being a part of that. And I have seen great viewers show up here on the channel as a result of that. It's a powerful way to engage in community. Now, once you've got people in your channel and you're engaged in YouTube as a whole, you can use that same practice outside elsewhere. You can go into Twitter, you can go into Facebook and build your profile there as well. Now that may seem like it doesn't make a lot of sense, but the reality is this, guys. The second part of this process is gonna be your distribution of content. If you don't have a community that's being built first and foremost on all of your platforms, your distribution of content is gonna fall flat. Now, building community isn't just building community off your channel, it's also building community here on your channel. And what you wanna do in regards to building community here is, Every comment, every single comment, you are there responding. So one of the great tools for this, guys, and I'm going to put the link down below for this, is TubeBuddy. TubeBuddy is a huge tool for me in this. I pop into my backend dashboard and I go comments that I have not replied to, go right to it. Bam. Gives me a full list of comments that I have not replied to that I need to get on every morning. I knock this out. I make a commitment that if you are going to take the time to watch my video and offer a comment, I appreciate that as you being a member of this community, and I can't get enough of it. Why wouldn't I take the time and the appreciation to show you guys, yes, this is a community. This is where we grow together, build each other up, help each other get to where we want to go, right? Last but not least, guys, is create content that the community desires. Saturday, I've been doing live streams for the community. I go in, I check out your YouTube channel, your website, your social network. I am doing this partially for myself, for sure, to build the community here on my channel, but also because I genuinely care about helping other people grow. That's what my business was built on as a consultant. That's what the YouTube channel has been built on. That's what I want this to be about. So I better have episodes, whether it's content on the daily from Monday through Friday or the live episode that showcases members of my community who are actively participating. This is a huge way to build it, guys. I guarantee you, if people feel welcomed, like they're part of your group, they're part of your channel, they're a part of your community, You're gonna see regular engagement, and even more than the engagement, you're gonna see regular sharing of your videos out into their networks. It's such a huge boost, guys. Once people start to take note of what you're doing, who you are, and why they should actually care about what's going on in your channel, you're gonna see monumental growth. So what's the next step? Okay guys, so the first step was build the community. The second step, as I mentioned, is going to be disperse your content effectively to the community. What does that look like? You've got communities as a business, I hope, or as a self-preneur entrepreneur other than YouTube. Alright, so you've got your Twitter, your Facebook, your Instagram, your Snapchat, your wherever else you are, Tumblr, Blogger, Reddit, LinkedIn, wherever you may be. Make sure guys that you are regularly engaging in those communities as well. And I know this seems like it's a ton of work, but commit to the channels that you're willing to build community on. Don't have 10 channels that you can't do that with. I work in social media professionally. I am constantly on social media from 4:30 AM to 5 o'clock at night every day. I am on social networks. That's my job. That's what I do. That's my passion. So for me to manage 10 networks is not— it's not a mind-boggling feat. It's easily doable for me. Now for you, it may be only 3 networks that you're able to do, but I'm telling you, engage those communities elsewhere. Also make Make sure that when you're engaging those communities elsewhere, you're distributing your YouTube content to all of those networks. It's a great way to engage those communities. People often say, how often should I be posting to my other networks? How often should I be putting it out there? I guarantee you, I post at minimum once a day to all of my networks. How can I say that for certain? Because when I put out my YouTube video, it goes to every single network. Hands down, bar none, it goes out. That's a simple way for me to create not only awareness of the YouTube channel, but also to engage all the communities I wanna be active in. I'm bringing value to those communities by creating quality content and delivering it to the people in those communities. So it's essential, guys, that if you haven't done this already as a YouTube channel, I see a lot of questions about this. When should I start a Facebook page? When should I start a Twitter channel? When— from go, from go, you should have a social network supporting your YouTube channel to help you get the message out there. Who are you talking to? Who are you telling about your videos? You can't create a video and just expect, well, YouTube's not showing my video to anybody. That's your job. That's your job. Not only are you taking on the role of a creator as a YouTube channel, as a YouTube creator, I mean, it's in the title. You're a YouTube creator. But the reality is you're also a YouTube marketer. You're not marketing YouTube itself proper, YouTube proper, the major, but you are advertising your channel. That's your job. That's your role. You can't expect other people to do that work for you. That's on you. If you're not out there and you're not pumping social, if you're not telling the world that that you exist and there's content here, expect to struggle getting to that 1,000 mark on subscribers. It's easily doable, guys, if you are regularly creating quality content, and then on top of that, you are distributing it out to your network as effectively as possible. Okay, now those are the 2 things, those are the 2 big things that you can do in order to get to 1,000 subscribers. Now the last one is going to be a little more painful for you guys. Here it is. Okay guys, the last thing is this. Patience is key. I know that's hard, I really do. I see a lot of people asking, how can I grow quick? How can I grow fast? How can I get to this milestone? I wanna do it now, I wanna do it here, I wanna— it's not about that. It's a long ball game. You have to enjoy what you're doing. Enjoy the fact that you're creating content, putting it out there. Enjoy the people that you're creating new relationships with. Enjoy that you're building a network. Focus on that. Forget the numbers. Forget the numbers, they will come. If you are consistent, if you process properly, if you're not just focused on, oh, I need more subscribers, oh, I lost subscribers today, oh, I gained subscribers on this, I did this, I gotta play the algorithm— forget that crap. Focus instead on what do you want to create, are you creating it, are you getting it to people that care, and do you genuinely care about the people? If you do that, guys, and you have patience to just continue doing that, maybe it'll take you a year, maybe 2, maybe 3, maybe 5, to hit that 1,000 subscriber mark, but you will do it. If you refuse to quit, you will hit 1,000 subscribers eventually. If all you get is 1 subscriber a day, right, that's gonna take you 3 years to get there. Oh well. Is that worth it to you? Is that what you're aiming for? Is all you want a subscriber count, or are you looking for more? If you're looking for more, which I hope you are as a YouTube creator, great. If you just want the 1,000 subscribers, know that you're in it for that long haul. One a day is three years you've got to wait. Are you willing to invest those three years? If not, this may not be the platform for you, and I hate saying that. But if you're dedicated to the numbers and all you're looking for is a subscriber growth to happen immediately, this may not be the place for you. It may not be. Consider that. Consider whether you have the patience and perseverance to push through something like one subscriber a day. That is it for today, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you so much for watching again. If you like this video, click the like button down there. Question of the day is, how are you gonna hit 1,000 subscribers? Let me know down in the comments below. And if you know somebody that's been struggling to grow their YouTube channel to 1,000 subscribers, share this out, put it out on your networks. I greatly appreciate that. Just another reminder, guys, I am doing a live review on Saturday, but I'm also at a local fair business conference event earlier in the morning. So I think the live is actually gonna be later. It's probably gonna be 1:30 1 o'clock for the live. Okay, so just keep that in mind. I am at that conference fair event thing from 10 o'clock till probably 11:30. I don't know that I can make it back right at 12, so maybe 12:30, 1 o'clock I will be going live. If you've got the bell clicked though, you will get a reminder when I am going live, so make sure you've got that bell clicked. Catch you tomorrow with another great video, guys. Take it easy.
