When a power outage killed his computer work, the speaker shifted to something else. His point: keep backup plans ready. Downshift when setbacks hit, pedal hard when opportunities open up.

Always be ready to shift gears. You never know when something's gonna happen. We just had the power go out here. I had a whole day planned on the computer, and instead, now it's, okay, what do you do instead? You're obviously not gonna be online, so what's it gonna be? But having the resources and the backup plan ready to roll makes that a whole lot easier. Be ready to shift gears. You never know what can happen.
