Dan Willis distinguishes between the tasks you do and your deeper calling. He uses Thor's story from the movies, where Odin tells Thor he's the god of thunder, not the god of hammers, to show how people get stuck on tools and roles instead of their actual purpose.

So spending the time this morning just doing some reading, doing some devotion, some self-work stuff, and it came to mind this idea of calling, of purpose. And it's one that I wrestled with for a long time while I had the time to do it. And it was interesting to me that it became very clear what the purpose was— being able to speak and teach and, and just, I start talking and open up a Bible, open up a conversation. And by the time I was done, there'd be a group of men around listening, engaged in the conversation, learning, growing. And realizing that gifting, it came to mind, the Thor movie. You guys may have seen it, you may not have seen it, but Thor's talking to his dad Odin. And Thor's, you know, essentially saying, you know, I lost my hammer. I lost it. I'm not Thor anymore. Odin pauses and looks at him and goes, I don't think I called you the god of hammers. I think I called you the god of thunder. And it's this interesting idea for me of for so long we become fixated on the thing that we are doing that we forget the purpose that we were created for. Big difference. There's a big difference there.
