Millienial Motivation - Episode 1

In this inaugural live broadcast, Dan Willis explains why entrepreneurs, freelancers, and small‑business owners should prioritize creating live video content on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitch. He announces a daily 3 PM live slot, outlines his plan to use the sessions for Q&A, concept breakdowns, and timely media commentary. Willis critiques the current media focus on negative political stories (e.g., Trump’s remarks) and argues that the most effective response is to “black out” the negativity and amplify positive, solution‑oriented messages. He stresses the importance of listening to audience signals—especially millennials—to ensure a brand’s passion resonates with the right demographic. Practical steps include monitoring social channels, partnering with like‑minded creators, and consistently delivering content that aligns with the audience’s interests. The broadcast ends with a call for viewer questions on business, tech, family, and other topics, positioning the series as a daily motivational resource for business success.

How's it going, guys? Alright, so YouTube has been one of the channels that I just haven't got on. The reality is Instagram, video content's going up there. They've got their live stories now. How's it going, guys? LinkedIn actually just launched— All right, so YouTube has been one of the channels that I just haven't got on. Live video application onto their mobile app, so LinkedIn now for B2B companies, consultants like myself, that's where we are, we're on that. YouTube though is something that's so crucial as far as engagement with like-minded individuals and communities. So I can't stress enough how important it is to create content. I keep telling everybody around me, you gotta create content. And this is just one of those networks that I didn't engage with. It's not something I've engaged with. I know in the past I've worked with Twitch, was a partner with Twitch, and that was back before I was doing my consultancy. So now it's important for me to get in here, get— start creating content, making that happen. So for me, I figured the live environment would be a better place for this. It allows me to do a bit more of a Q&A rather than the prerecorded videos. Down the road, who knows, there may be pre-recorded content that goes out, but for, for right now, I think live is the way it's going to be. So today I didn't want it to be anything super long, super intense. I just wanted to touch base, let people know that this is going to be happening daily, every day, 3 o'clock, unless something comes up, and I'll make sure to reschedule and put the time on here. But it's really going to be a live video where down the road it could be Q&A. If there is no Q&A happening, it's simply going to be A breakdown of a concept, an idea, something that we're seeing in the media. So, the big thing that I see popping up in a lot of my feeds today is, of course, there's all of this news out there regarding Trump and the racist statement that came from overseas. And I think it's a larger conversation than just a political conversation about Trump and things that he said. I think in reality what needs to happen, and I'm rebuking myself right now, Now for even bringing it up, but it's for the purpose of creating a solution so it doesn't happen again, because you're never going to hear it again. When these ludicrous things happen where things are said that are clearly not thought through, they're on the fly, they're offensive, oftentimes it has that air as though they're unintentional. And the reality is nobody on his media team is that foolish. Oftentimes when these things happen, in the next couple days, something key is happening inside his system, inside his plan, inside his team. And so, you know, juxtapose you've got Rex Tillerson and you've got Trump's statement in England, or about England the other day. The reality is the most beneficial thing that we can do, guys, especially with social media as a whole, is decide which channels we are going to engage with and decide where we are going to apply our energy and our conversations. So, if something ridiculous and stupid is said by somebody, rather than getting absorbed in that, just black it out. And I know a lot of people are going, well, if you don't address it, then the problem will never be solved. I disagree. I think in a world where media is so dominant, and we're talking social media, we're talking traditional media, we're talking television, we're talking film, in a world where media is so easily accessible to everybody, the person dominating the conversation is the one who is winning using their strategy. So the best thing that we could do, whether you're in business, whether you are just somebody who's got a YouTube feed and you're not business-related, if you want to contribute, the best thing you can do is create content and engage socially with people. Get out there, get that message out there, have people talking about what you want to talk about. So somebody does something stupid, Focus on the messages that are positive. Black it out. Anybody that's bringing it up— and I'm not saying this where it's like boycott CNN, get out of there, boycott CNN. What I'm saying is CNN should be boycotting the story. They shouldn't forget the story. I know it's a negative story. I know it's something terrible. I know it's an eye-catching headline, but there are so many people out there in the world every day doing amazing things to make it a better place. And whether that's in the US or whether that's in Europe or There are people out there making every effort every day to do something phenomenal. And I think that's where we need to focus our attention and conversation. And when that starts to happen, when we stop focusing on the stupidity, when we stop focusing on the negativity out there, I think that goes a long way to improving the dialogue as a whole. And we actually start to see some solutions and people that are able to equip themselves to deliver solutions. So how does this apply on a business level? Because we're going to get out of the political. This is mostly going to be a business-related entrepreneur, freelance, small business, big business, but business-focused channel. So how does this apply directly to business? It's the exact same message. If you want people to be talking about what you want them talking about— your product, your service, your business— you have to be relevant to the message they want to hear. You have to be shouting the same thing that they want to to be shouting or that they are shouting out into their networks. And the only way that you can do that effectively is if you're actually watching and listening to what people are saying, either on social media or in person or in the events that you're at, or as you serve customers, listen and look at what people are actually saying and create and craft your strategy to engage with that. Make a point of, uh, I know this week we had a meeting with a new client out in Hawaii. She's, she's very passionate about organic health products. She thinks it's a huge thing in helping people get healthy. She's pumped about it, and I think that's great. I think as a person who's going into a business, your passion has to be there for what it is before you even get started, and that passion resonates. But one thing that she was lacking is she knew how she felt about the topic, but she felt there was a disconnect between herself and a younger demographic, between the millennials. And the reality was a simple question of, are you listening to millennials and where are you doing that? And it's not difficult, guys. You can hit anybody from Grandma on her Facebook page all the way down to little Susie on her Facebook page that she's pretending to be 13. Like, everybody is out there. Everybody has a message. Everybody's tweeting, putting pictures up, having conversations online. The simple practice is this. Find your passion, make sure your passion is resonating in the message that your business is putting out. So whether that's how you're engaging with content, how you're engaging with customers, clients, or the messages you're putting out, and then make sure that you are not just spewing content out there onto the web. That's useless. You can't just puke all over people. Make sure that you're out there, that your message is resonating, and you are listening. Listen to it. Listen to the responses that come in on your videos, on your on your content. Listen to the people that are out there making an effort to scream the same things that you're shouting. If you're about improving race relations, great. Find other key thinkers and leaders in that industry and shout what they're shouting with them. Forget the negativity. Instead, move into what are people doing successfully to improve the situation and focus on that. If it's organic food, great. You're all about organic food. Find other people that are excited about organic food. Find people that are out there positively creating awareness about that and engage with them. Have conversations with them and then create content that is relevant to them. It's a really simple process, guys. That's it for today. I don't want these to go much past 10 minutes, but thank you to anybody that takes the time to listen to this. Like I said, this is going to be a daily endeavor, so any comments you put in the chat, just like I just said, I'm going to be listening. I'm gonna hear what you guys wanna hear. Any questions that you guys have about business, freelancing, entrepreneurship, coaching, family, tech, fun, food, whatever, throw it out there. But in reality, the focus of the show, inasmuch as possible, is gonna be motivating you guys in your business to succeed. That's it, guys. Catch you tomorrow for another live broadcast. See you tomorrow.
