Monday through Saturday, we're putting out videos here on the channel, helping you guys grow your business online, build communities that matter, and serve them with great content. Now, today what we're dealing with is creator's block. And let's say I was inspired to do this one by creator's block of my own. I have sat here for 2 hours trying and wrestling to come up with an idea for a video today. And I realized, bam, this is what this video should be about, this struggle that people have in creating content. So whether that's a podcast, a vlog, YouTube channel, YouTube content, writing, you name it, music. If you're out there trying to create things, business plans, financial strategies, digital marketing overviews, whatever it may be that you're out there trying to create, guys, the reality is oftentimes creators come across the issue of a block. And I want to give you simple steps that you can take to break the block, come up with an ingenious idea, and get rolling on your stuff. So without further ado, let's hit it. First and foremost, guys, let's talk about creator's block and what it is. Creator's block, whether that be a writer's block, a musician's block, whatever it may be, it's when you come to the table and you say, okay, it's time for me to take everything that I am, my experience, my goals, my aims, my purpose, and create something new with it for people to consume. And you sit down and make this happen, and all you get is this roadblock. For some reason, the pistons don't fire. You're not getting ideas, you're not getting inspiration when you try to put pen to paper, music to sheet, or numbers to a profile. It amazes me how the roadblock just hits you and you are literally stuck there staring off into the wild unknown, desperately hoping that an idea will strike you, a lightning bolt from the gods will strike you where you sit and this beautiful viral idea will hit you. The reality is, guys, creator's block is a simple thing that your mind is currently trying to piece together and it just doesn't have the fuel to do it. You want to create a new idea and you've got tons of ideas around you, you think you do, that you can piece together to make one new connection that can be put into a single concept. When your brain isn't firing, when it's not connecting the way that it should be, it just means that you need More information, and I know that seems counterintuitive. Often we're told to simplify, simplify, pull back, take it slow, focus on the basics, keep it simple. But the reality is, guys, I find the three keys that you're gonna need in order to break that block is actually to feed more information into your mind. So where do you get that info? Check it out. Number one, social media. We all love it. Now when I say social media, guys, I'm not talking about you go hit up your Facebook wall and go ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba. But let's take for example a photographer. Okay, you're in the photography business. You love going out there. You love taking your camera, creating pictures, but you are at a total loss what your next photo shoot should be. Guess what? Hit up that Instagram account, guys. Go in, search by tag, search by whatever it is that you're feeling. What do you want to do? You want to do landscapes? Go ahead, hit up landscapes. Just search it. Tags. Bam. List of tags right there. What do you do? Go in and just peruse. Now you're not looking to steal here, okay guys? And I— a big red flag on this: do not steal content. Do not steal other people's ideas. Don't copy and paste what you see there. But often when you are looking for an idea to break a block, often you just need a new perspective. And that new perspective is new information for your brain of how other people are currently out there revisioning and rethinking. Now when you go through this, What you're gonna see are pages and pages and pages of different looks and different ideas and different thoughts that different people have had. Guaranteed, if you sit there for five minutes and just scroll, you're gonna find something in here that clicks. Bam! Oh, I could totally do that, but that's not how I would do it. I would do it like this, and you're off and running. So same thing can be done with Twitter, YouTube, Twitch. It doesn't matter what network you're looking at. Whatever you are producing content on. So YouTube, let's say you're on YouTube, you can't come up with a video idea. Go on YouTube, watch some videos, sit back for an hour, take it 10, 15, 5 minutes, whatever. Scroll through pages and pages of different videos that are out there and go, that's kind of cool, but this is how I would do it. Bam, you're off and running with another idea. So social media, great place to get running. All right, go check that. Still have the block though? Don't worry. There's some more ideas here. Okay, social media didn't work for you. Not a problem. Go old school. There's these things, they've got covers, right? You see them? Covers, pages inside, and on these pages are words. In these beautiful things are stories and imagination and creativity. When you grab these books, whether it's these books or these books, or heck, maybe even a comic book, whatever you've got, grab a book. If you're into art, if you're into music, go read the story of Mozart and find out. Go on Wikipedia. Find out what his history was, what he was about, what inspired him. Seek that inspiration, guys. Go classic. Find out how people from thousands of years ago have been doing this, creating content. There's a great, great line about writer's block in the 1600s. You know what they called writer's block in the 1600s? Unemployed. If you were a writer that was unable to come up with content on the demand— we need a new play, we need this written, we need a new book— If you couldn't come up with that, you didn't work. You didn't get commissioned as a painter by the Vatican and go, hmm, I just don't know. You better have been ready to roll when the money hit. You go! Look back to these guys that took no excuse. A block was no reason not to have creativity, and they went to it and they hit it. Some of those processes, those classical creation practices that you can read about in those books I was talking about, are gonna be surefire ways to help you get great ideas to create phenomenal content that not only engages, but it creates and inspires. Create, engage, inspire. Do it. Hit up the classical. Now, you've done your social media, you've done the classical, and you're still banging your head against the desk. You've got no way to come up with some creative block. Don't worry, we've got one more to go. All right guys, last one is this. Social media didn't work, the books didn't work. What do you do next? Relationships. I'm gonna say it again, relationships. Get up from your desk, get up from your office, get up from the, the books, your chair, your nook, whatever. Go find people, go find your relationships, go talk with your wife, your partner, your business associate, a client. Just walk down the street and go get a cup of coffee, listen to the conversations happening around you. So often, guys, a simple relationship, a communication, a conversation can spark imagination in a way that you couldn't ever think of. It's so vital and so crucial at times that we're trying to pull from our own resources to create something new, when in reality, life can often be the best motivator, the best inspiration. So get out there, go live, take the hour, go for a walk, take a drive, go look at the countryside. I mean, if you're into music, go hit up some music club downtown, go hit up a cafe, just scroll through on any new music that's out. Just get out there and experience something. Guaranteed it will innovate, guys. That is it for today, guys. Guaranteed, if you have a block, a creative block of any kind, you're a writer, a musician, a business person, it doesn't matter. If you've got a block, hit the social networks, see what's there, try to get inspired that way. If that doesn't work, go classical, see how people have been getting creative, how the muses have tickled fancies for thousands of years. If that doesn't work, get out there, find a relationship, talk to people, experience things. One of those 3 things, I guarantee you this, is going to change your perception, give you a new viewpoint, connect ideas in new ways by feeding new information into who you are, what you're about, and what you want to accomplish. It will equip you in a magnificent way, in a great way, to be able to create, engage, and inspire your community. That's it for today, guys. Question of the day is, how are you going to get inspired? How do you break the block? Let me know down in the comments below. And again, if you guys like the video, hit that like button, share it out with somebody that you know that has an issue with the block. Catch you tomorrow with another great video, guys.
