All right. Welcome to the livestream, everybody. We are going to give this a couple of minutes as we get started here. I know I am a few minutes early myself. It's not quite 12 noon Eastern Standard Time yet, which is when we go. For all of you watching the channel though, that are getting this video as a playback, thank you so much for watching. Every Saturday, so I put out videos here Monday through Saturday. Oh, Chicago's in the house. I put out videos here Monday through Saturday, guys, helping you learn how to create, engage, and inspire to build your business online. Saturdays are kind of special though. Saturdays I'm going to try to go live, and it seems to be growing little by little, so Today we're gonna look at a couple different YouTube channels, get some feedback on those. I'm hoping to take a look at maybe some social media, some websites in the future. So if people have any of those they want to throw out, if there's time, I'm more than happy to look at that as well. And then on top of that, we're gonna take a look at how I process, how I actually edit a video today. So a lot of people have been asking, how do you go about that? How do you do that? So I'm gonna show you how I actually piece together my videos inside Premiere Pro. So we're gonna do all of that today. I just want to check and make sure we got— we've got Chicago in the house, and that's enough to get going. So, uh, now I don't think I've ever looked at your channel, Hookset Nation. Is that something you want me to do, or can I get started on some of the other folks that are looking for their channels to be reviewed? I know there's a lot of— I tried to limit the delay on this, guys, so that we're able to actually get a look-see of what's going on. But I think what we're gonna do is I'll just get rolling on at least one channel here. So let's go over here, let's change it over. So what we're looking at today is— it's William Pace in the house. Okay, so let's take a look at a couple of these different YouTube channels that we've got out there. I'm gonna start with a, just a random channel. Why don't we do that? Why don't we take a look at just a random channel? Let's put in a term. How do I grow my channel? Because there's people that have asked for their channel to be reviewed, but I want to make sure that they're in the chat when we do that. So let's start off with one of these guys. Let's find somebody that's got very few subscribers. So probably going to have to go down a little bit further on this list here. Do do do do do. Want to find somebody relatively small? That's always the hard part with this, right? When you're looking for a small channel, for you to find one on some of these terms, you've got to go. So, so, so low. It's a sad thing, but okay. Well, this one's not bad. Let's do this. 7,000 subs on this channel. So let's just get warmed up, see what we've got here, and we'll run with this. Okay, so to get warmed up, guys, how this works is we take a look at these channels and break down things that they've done well, things that they can improve on, and it's a benefit to you guys if you don't have a YouTube channel yet, if you're considering starting a YouTube channel, you can learn by what these guys are doing well and what they're doing wrong. So if at any point you guys have a question, feel free to throw it in the chat. I am watching that as we go, but I'm just gonna break this down. All right, so let's start this off. This is Chris the Gamer, Chris That Gamer. So right off the bat, guys, first thing we're gonna look at here is the banner. Okay, I get from landing on it, here's the banner, this is what it's about. Now this is one of the big things that I throw out there, guys, for a lot of the game channels out there, for some reason they feel that the game alone is enough to show. And I'm of a different mind. I always appreciate it when there's an image of the actual person that's going to be streaming on the banner here somewhere. So the background's great here, I get it, it's got that edgy video gamey feel, but there's no picture of the actual YouTuber on this banner. You could easily pop that in behind this logo, you could pop that in off to the side here, Always make sure, guys, you attach a face to the channel so people know what's going on. So I always like to have my channel up. Like I said, I don't recommend it unless I'm also doing it, right? So I want to make sure that I'm being legitimate that way. Now you get 3 of me on mine, and some people might say that's a bit overdose, but the reality is people can relate to my personality almost immediately just by landing on the page. Bam, I'm there, people know who I am, and they get a bit of my personality out of those images. With this, bam, you land. You know it's about gaming, but you don't know anything about the YouTuber themselves. And with so many gaming channels out there, you're just not sure what to expect. Is he serious? Is he tutorials? Is he— what does he play? I get there's a little bit of like a COD feel to it, but the reality is I'm not exactly sure what's going on here. I'd love to see an image of this YouTuber thrown up so we can see what's happening. Now, Let's move on from there though. Things that I like that I'm seeing here. I like the colors. I like that he's got the logo. I love this logo here. It's clever. It's in the shape of a game controller. I think that's a really clever way to go. So kudos on that. I love that. What I'm not liking is here in this logo. So this font is fine, but this is dead space here. This is space that he could put something. This is dead space here. This is somewhere he could put something. This stuff here, this Twitch and this, this Twitter logo, honestly guys, that's what this section here is for. So if I click these right now, I go nowhere, absolutely nowhere. If you want a Twitch logo or a Twitter logo, put it in here, throw it in this little link tool here. It's great that he's got Twitter here, but he doesn't even have the Twitter image on this. So again, you go into mine, It's possible to have the Twitter image, it's possible to have LinkedIn, Instagram, I've got Amazon here. Some people throw their subscribe button in there as well. But he's got Google+ and Twitter. I don't know that that's really what he wants as a gaming channel is to have those in there, okay? Now follow that up, over here he's got Twitter and Twitch. Nowhere does he have Twitch here. There's no clickable to go to his Twitch channel. I can barely read this as well, guys. I don't know about what kind of resolution you guys have, but I can— I'm having a hard time reading this. On my monitor that's right in front of me here. So again, you want to make sure things are legible. They're big enough that people can see and know what they're doing. All right, let's move down a little bit here. Check out the Social Blade stats on the channel. So he's got 63 subs in the last 30 days. So that's not so bad. He's got 7,000 subs overall. He's doing great. Let's see here. Up, up, up. Video views up, up, up. Let's check out his videos then. Let's see how often he's posting. 48 views, 224. So 3 days, 5 days, 1 week, 1 week, 1 week. Looks about 3 a week. So he's meeting that threshold of 3 videos a week minimum, right guys? If you want to succeed on YouTube, consistency and— is constancy a word? I don't know. But the frequency, that's the word. Consistency and frequency, right? So you want a frequency to the videos. You want people to be aware that you've got videos coming out at least 3 times a week. Now that That's something that is lacking from his banner. I don't know how frequently he plans to update, right? How often am I gonna see a video from Chris the Gamer? So I'd probably pop an image of himself here or here, and then something saying this is what you can expect from the channel. This is what you can expect to see. But he's got decent consistency as far as creating videos. Clearly he's on that Fortnite, Fortnite, PUBG, Call of Duty, So he loves himself some shooters for sure. Not an RPG guy. These thumbnails are on point. He's doing a fantastic job with these thumbnails. I prefer the ones that have an image of him versus the ones that have just gameplay stuff, but great thumbnails, looking good. There is consistency with their layout, with how they play. Great stuff. I think as a gamer, you would definitely click on this. This is probably my favorite thumbnail so far today. I love that little Christian Bale nod there, but— He's been consistent. He's been consistent for over a year. So this is what you guys see if you're consistent for over a year. You're gonna see success. There's a lot of people like don't feel bad about that, man. There's a lot of people that have a hard time with consistency, right? Life happens sometimes. I think a lot of the times it we see YouTube as a side hustle, and so it gets lower on the priorities, and it's tough. It's really tough. But these are these are on point thumbnails. Great job. I love them. They've got his own feel to them. He uses game backdrops, and then he's got the game, he's got what the episode title is, and then he's got an image that you can relate to it. So great, great layout. Love what he's doing with those. Fantastic job. It's not too dissimilar to mine, in the exception that I don't have a gaming background. So for me, I just like an eye-grabbing color for the background, but I think for gaming, that's appropriate. So let's go to his next level, which is playlists. Active playlists. This is phenomenal to see. Okay, so updated 4 days ago, updated 4 days ago. He's got all kinds of playlists here that are self-created, and that's a great way to get some exposure for your channel, especially in a flooded place like this. Now if I go in, am I gonna just see his videos? Yes, it's exclusively his videos. So guys, as a smaller channel, anybody sub-10,000 subscribers, what I recommend is this, okay? Okay, I recommend that your playlist— you have a couple different styles of playlists. Okay, you should have at least one playlist that is attributed solely to you. Okay, so a lot of his playlists seem to be that. Then you want a playlist that showcases the niche. You want to affiliate yourselves with the other channels that are having success in your niche. What do I mean by this? Okay, so you come into my channel and what do you see? Millennial Motivation. This is the series. This is all 85 videos I've ever done in in one playlist. Bam, they're all there for people to go and watch. Next up, I've got a playlist showcasing who I most affiliate the channel with, right? Who do I feel is very similar to the things that I'm doing? Well, there's me, there's Tim Schmoyer, there's Sarah Nichi, there's Roberto Blake, right? Like these are, these are people that are doing similar things. Derral Eves. These are folks that are helping people learn how to do their YouTube properly. I want to be associated with that. So it's important to have these playlists properly sorted on your channel for sure. Head down here. Trailer. So this is not an official trailer. It does say I'm back, but it's not an official trailer to his channel, who he is, what he's about. So I might change that up, get him an official trailer. This stuff here though, guys, he doesn't have a ton of those playlists listed here for people to see. It gives you room for, I think, up to 11 playlists to be shown. Yeah, so if you go down here, you'll see that— oh, it's 8. So you've got up to 8 playlists that you can showcase on your channel. Take advantage of that. Showcase the 8 playlists as much as you can. And you'll see I rotate between— so here's one that's all mine, here's one that's a mix, right? I start with my video, but it's a mix. Next up, all mine. Next up, mine and a bunch of people I want to be affiliated with. Bunch of people I want to be affiliated with. Bunch of people I want to be affiliated with. So I try to mix it up and have a little bit of— a little bit of me, a little bit of everyone. A little bit of me, a little bit of everyone. That's how community gets built, right? That's what we're talking about. So overall, ChrisThatGamer, I know that you're not here. We picked your channel just to check it out to see what was up, and it's a great start to get everybody warmed up. That's the feel for what we're doing right now. And yeah, definitely take notes. I'm a huge, huge fan of notes all the time in my office. I either have my notebook nearby or a stack of Post-its ready to go, right? What are we looking at next? Let's see here. We have got What is up, Macarius? How you doing, buddy? Okay, let's go to— let's do James Roberts, huh? Let's take a look at James Roberts. So James— just refresh the page here. It's interesting that the color changed. Okay, the advantage to playlists, that's a great question. Okay, what is the advantage to playlists? The advantage is this, you are rewarded in the YouTube algorithm for the amount of time people spend on your channel or on YouTube. Ideally, your channel is what you're aiming for, which is why I always recommend to start the playlist as a full playlist of your videos. Okay? You get a higher reward for your channel if people stay on YouTube watching a series of videos that you have done right now. As far as does the watch time count towards you if they watch a playlist that's you and a bunch of other people? No, you don't get the entire watch time on that. You will get credit for having them start on your video and go down the playlist. It will let you know how many people have watched videos from your playlist and how many they've watched. But the reality is this: you don't get watch time for other people's videos. That's not how that works. But you do get credit for keeping people on YouTube through that playlist. The same is also true outside of playlists, guys. So you know that when you watch a video, if you pick a random video, doesn't matter what one it is, you pick a video, anybody that works their way— we'll go to the end here. So at the end of my videos, every time I use an end screen, right? And this end screen, what it does is it shows us a couple of different videos for people to pick. Now in this case, it's generating all of my videos, but there are some of these that will sometimes generate videos that aren't mine. I get credit if people stay on YouTube, they click through to another video and watch it from this end screen. All of these are little ways to boost your thing. Same thing with the, the cards right up here. If somebody clicks through to one of these, bam, that counts to my credit. These are all little boosts from the algorithm that you can get to help grow your channel. So let's keep rolling here. We're gonna take a look at James, James Roberts. Okay, so you guys have a bit of a familiarity with how we break this down. I like to start at the top. Work our way down. I am really confused as to why this— this is telling me disable polymer true. I don't know why it's in there. This is much better. This is the color scheme that I like with YouTube. I prefer the darker one, so that's what I'm going to run with. But what we've got here is James Roberts. Off the bat, guys, if I can't tell from landing what the channel is about, you're already doing a disservice. Now Thing that I want to give a plus to right away though is this. Check it out. Facebook tribe. So this is a Facebook page or group, right? He's got his Google Plus, his Instagram, his Facebook. He's got media features. I'm not sure what that is. And his Twitter, okay? So he's got a bunch of resources there for people to link and click through to. That's fantastic. But here, I'm not sure from this top banner what this channel is about. I don't know who he is. I don't know what he's doing. I don't know how frequently the videos are out. So Number one thing that I would recommend for James to take a look at and fix would be this top banner. What is up, Healing Hands Duo? You guys are on deck. You're up next for channel reviews. So James though, he's got nothing in this banner, right? You guys can see this here. No image, no picture, no nothing. That's got to change. What he wants to make happen here is he wants to have an image of himself because clearly this is self-branded, right? This is a, this is a personal channel that he is trying to self-brand with. He better have a picture of himself on this banner. He better have a picture of what the industry is and what he's doing, right? And on top of that, he got— he has to tell us how frequently he's gonna post. Everybody wants to know that. Same bat time, same bat channel. It's an age-old trick in the entertainment industry. You have to let people know when you're on and when you're gonna come back. Every Wednesday night is Survivor. I remember growing up, I haven't watched Survivor in years, but I remember when the first season of Survivor was on every Wednesday. Tune in, watch Survivor. You have to tell people when you're going. People know point blank from me, right? You go to my channel, you know point blank, first thing that I've got there before my image, before anything else, is daily videos Monday through Saturday. Bam! You know you can show up and Monday through Saturday you're gonna see a new video from me. Now granted, are there days that I miss? Yes, yes there are. Yesterday I missed it because I was so busy out actually doing consulting, actually getting video content. That I'm gonna show you how to put into a video later in this episode, okay? So stick around for that. We're gonna do a Premiere Pro, uh, how I compile my episode tutorial after I take these channel reviews. So you've got to tell people when you're going live. When are you gonna be on? That aside, this is great. He's got a picture of himself here. I would probably change this so that it's just his image and a back— instead of that, like, it looks like a park that he's in or something. I would probably just put a clear backdrop on that. I know for mine I've done that. I've just made a white backdrop. Makes it super simple for people to differentiate between you and the backdrop. So it's very, very, very important. Okay, next up, let's take a look at frequency of videos. How often can we expect a video from this site? 2 days ago, 1 week ago, 1 week ago, 3 weeks ago, 3 weeks ago, a month ago, a month ago, a month ago. Okay. So right away, guys, consistency is something that this channel is struggling with and it needs to improve. So what's the standard? If you haven't heard it before here on these, I'm gonna give it to you again. It's minimum 3 a week. If you want to see success on your YouTube channel, it has to be minimum 3 a week. All right, no excuses. At least 3 original pieces of content a week. Now what I do like is he has got episodes in mind, right? So he's got a series of things that he wants to do. Now, a big issue though is his titles, and he's doing himself a disservice with his titles. What he's done is he's, he's numbering them, right? Now, that's okay for Casey Neistat to do. Casey Neistat has a couple million people. He can number his videos if he wants. But the reality is, in your titles, you are looking for keywords, right? You want your keywords to come out organically in the title. I don't know if anybody is searching for Coleman Baker changing negative number 96. We can check that out though. Let me— let's go into a YouTube tab. Let's search number 96 Coleman Baker and see how many search results come up. 41 results. Okay, 41 results are gonna show up here. And not surprisingly, we get the interview between the two of them. We've got Coleman Baker's channel at 28 videos, James Roberts at 245. Okay, somebody else that's also doing numbers at the start of their episodes, and the rest is just blasé videos. So the reality is what you want to be doing with your videos is making enticing titles. So don't worry about getting his name in there. Don't worry about having mindset game in there. Have something that's relevant to what you're speaking about. Okay, that needs to be first. Okay, so if changing negative thoughts is what the episode is about, changing negative compulsive something— I can't read it all off the thumbnail— but changing negative whatever, that should be your title. If you have to, put Coleman Bakers in at the end of it, but your first couple words should be what the episode is about. That's gonna be much more grabbing, much more helpful for you. Okay guys, um, so I would drop the number 96. I would drop the title, who's in it, unless there's some major big stars. Uh, put that at the end. Make the title the title. What is it about? Thumbnails, clearly guys, there's a big difference. I love that he's taking the time to actually create thumbnails. That's clear, that's evident. He's got episode 96 and the title on top of it. However, the layout is inconsistent and it doesn't show him on these. So somebody who does an interview style channel like this that I am a huge fan of is Mr. Tom Bilyeu of Impact Theory. Some of you guys know him, some of you don't, but Tom Bilyeu is an amazing interview channel. Take a look at his channels, okay? What is the difference between these thumbnails and these thumbnails, right? There's an evident difference between the two. So with these, anybody that's a big star, he has their name, Their photo, his logo, right? Instead of his face, his logo. However, you go down here and these are slightly different videos that he's done, right? These are motivational stuff. These are quote ones. And instead of having Bruce Lee here, he's got your choice: outwork everyone, have vision, gain skills juxtaposed next to the image of the person he wants to showcase from that video. That is powerful, right? You head down here to his Q&As. Again, he doesn't have his name. He has Don't Be Right, Turn Negative to Positive, Growth Mindset. He's telling you what the episode is about. Very key, very common, and he keeps the mold the same. So he has in mind which of these 3 it's gonna happen, right? This is Impact Theory, this is Impact Quotes, this is Ask Tom Bilyeu Q&A, this is Health Theory. You'll notice each of them has a unique style for every thumbnail. This one has this model of name, image, Impact Theory logo. This one is what the episode is about, impact quotes down in this corner, and the image of the person, right? Over here we've got Health Impact. It's a white background, different font, but he's consistent in each of these fonts. I would recommend the exact same thing for you, James. That's a powerful way to go. Okay, so that's videos and thumbnails aside. No caps. I believe that there is a place for caps. You can use caps effectively. However, If you overuse caps, it can be to your detriment. So know what you're doing and use it intentionally if you're going to, okay? But let's move on to his playlist. That's the next thing we're gonna take a look at. Okay, so does he have playlists? Yes, he's got 101 episodes in this playlist. Thanks, buddy. Had to go get that shave done. It was getting a little bushy everywhere. So, but what we've got here is he's got 101 episodes in one playlist. Not a problem. I've got the same thing with my Millennial Motivation series. It's 85 videos in one playlist. I will probably do a year 1, year 2, year 3 for my own channel. I would recommend the same for Mindset Game TV. I'm not sure how many years you've been at it, but the very least I would recommend that you have a year 1, a year 2, and a year 3. Now this stuff here, guys, he's got other video, other playlists, but the reality is created video promos, mindset. The missed opportunity here is having appropriate titles. For these playlists, and as well, there's not very many videos in some of these. Like, you want at least 5 videos in a playlist so that you can fill that whole banner, right? Let's go to the homepage and see how he's showcasing the playlists. So he's got his Mindset Game TV. This is great. I actually don't mind this. I think these are fantastic. So you've got what your program is, you've got your face, and you've got who you're talking to. The text doesn't really need to be there. So this, uh, hosted by James Roberts doesn't Doesn't need to be there. It's redundant. We're on your James Roberts YouTube channel. That's great. Don't need to have that tiny little title that nobody can read. Episode 8, episode 6, you can get rid of that. If you just had muscle hypertrophy, that would be sufficient because you're gonna showcase who you're talking to in the title, right? You've shown that. No need to double up like that. Just leave it as is. Some of these images are fantastic though. This is a great image. This is a great image. This is a great image. Um, Yeah, so I don't mind these thumbnails at all. These ones are lacking. These ones are lacking. These ones are lacking because it doesn't tell me what the episode is about. It doesn't draw me in. I'm not intrigued. This literally just looks like a Facebook Live. So that's something you may want to consider. It doesn't have to be this massive thing. I'm just recommending it for you. Okay, um, as always guys, any advice I've been giving you is not coming from a place of trying to tear you down. It is literally coming from a place of I want to see you guys all succeed. I want to help build you up. I want to help get your channel to where it needs to be, and I'm trying to provide feedback in a critical but constructive manner. Okay, so if at any point you're like, Dan, that's critical, but where's the constructive? Please remind me of that. I don't ever want to be critical and just tearing things down. I want to help you guys by showing you how to build up. Okay, so that said, James, all in all, you're sitting at 245 subscribers. The big changes I would recommend for your channel are this: Consistency, minimum 3 videos a week. Thumbnails, get your thumbnail game consistent and appealing. Okay, last but not least is fix this banner. If you do those 3 things, I imagine in 90 days at minimum you could be at partnership level. I'm pretty sure you could get there. You've got great content, you've got interviews. I'm sure those people that you're doing interviews with are sharing those interviews out into their network. Um, you're personable. You're— I haven't watched the video today, but I have watched videos from your channel. I feel you got a great personality. You can do this, no problem. Consistency in the video content, fix your thumbnails, fix your titles, fix your banner. Other than that, you're rocking and rolling, buddy. Thank you so much for volunteering your channel up. Now, let's keep the ball rolling. I do have one more channel here. I want to dedicate enough time to that, but I also want to get to the live editing of one of my videos. To show you guys the process I go through for that. So let's go to Healing Hands Duo. Here we are at last. Okay, so this is a great channel, guys. Uh, it's something that I completely appreciate and understand. I love it when couples get together and do a video, and I also love it when it's health-related, especially when it has something that is near and dear to me. So I know many people in my life that are struggling through Lyme disease right now, and one of these are— One of the things that this couple has struggled through is dealing with Lyme disease. So I am super appreciative that there's content out there for people looking for it here. Now, it's not just that. I love this banner, kind of. Okay, I love the logo. I love the font. I love how it's laid out like that. Some of the things that I would recommend that we get to right away off this banner are: we are missing you guys. You guys are not an unattractive couple. There's no reason why we couldn't have you guys either on either side of this hand or both of you together on one side of this. Put your face on the banner. Huge thing, and you guys are gonna hear me say it over and over and over again. Get your face on your banner. And I know you guys have your, your faces here and your faces here, but the reality is this is only the desktop medium. If I was on a TV, most of what I see on your channel is this. It's this banner. You want your face there right away to grab that attention. Okay, awesome. See, I love it. You guys will get a feel for this. You'll be able to start seeing it. You'll understand that. So Wednesday and occasionally Friday. It's gotta be what you can commit to. Okay, now again, I'll give myself as the example. I tell people Monday through Saturday they can expect something from me. I did not put a video out yesterday. Does that mean that I'm gonna put occasionally Friday? No, I want people to understand that if I miss an episode, that is the exception, not the rule. So I make the promise of Monday through Saturday. It's a big, big thing. I am a metalhead, guys. That's the Ride the Lightning shirt that's there. Also a comic book fan, if you didn't catch that. But the reality is, this is a great logo. This logo is powerful. It's eye-catching. The font is brilliant. Turning the hearts into the A, I love this. You've nailed it. Absolutely amazing. The background's fine. I think as long as you put an image in there, your background's fine. There is a little bit of dead space here that you could use, but that's up to you guys what you want to put in there. If you wanted to put in maybe like a background slash here with pictures regarding what it's about, I think that's a powerful way to go. These little links down here are a very, very powerful way to pull people not only into your YouTube network but but also into your social network. So you want to make sure to go into your backend and really take the time to put the networks you are committed to into this section here. So for me, and it differs for every different channel, right? So if we go to a big channel, let's go to PewDiePie here. Okay. So for me, what we've got is for me, what's important is my book. So I've got an Amazon link, my Instagram I am active on, LinkedIn is for my consistency. Will that show up on mobile? Mobile is a smaller thing. So really make sure You are optimizing for 3 platforms: desktop, mobile, television. Okay, television is really the only one that's going to see these outer images. So this area here and this area here, desktop and TV are the only ones that are really going to see that. Mobile won't. Mobile will only see this middle area, which is why I recommend your images, your faces, are here and here, or both of you here. That way it does show up on mobile. Okay, but you're trying to plan for all 3: desktop, mobile, and TV. which is why I recommend you use the dead space. This here, so I've got my links to Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Amazon. Those are the big ones for me. I don't put a subscriber button in here, and there are people that do that, but for me, I feel that's unnecessary given usually there is a subscribe button here for people to click on. So if I go into here, this is where the subscribe button is. I don't need another subscribe button here. This is PewDiePie. So PewDiePie only has Instagram and Deep Thoughts. So I imagine this is probably his Reddit. I imagine that's probably his Reddit, and he does huge things with his Reddit, but this is where he's active. But he wants people to come in to his Instagram, and he wants people to come in to the Deep Thoughts. So he's got a Reddit page that he pulls from to create his stuff. That's what's there. Okay, so I recommend you use that if you are active on social networks, whether it's Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. I imagine you guys are probably on Instagram. I would have that in there for people to click through to. If you want to keep our life story, I am okay with that. Good morning, Luna! I'm okay with that. I think that's an okay thing to do. It's really up to you. Oh, I'll make sure to click that subscribe button there. James, I'm not sure if I clicked your subscribe button or not. I make a point, guys, that if I review your channel, I subscribe to your channel, okay? Um, you were kind enough to volunteer your channel to to go up on the chopping block like this, the least I can do is subscribe. So that's there. 87 subscribers. Let's check videos next. I loved your trailer, by the way. Sorry, we'll go back real quick. I missed that. Yeah, the page looks good. So if we go to your homepage, there is a channel trailer that is awesome. I really, really like that. For some reason, home took me to your— YouTube's broken apparently. It's not taking me back to your homepage, but your channel trailer was really good too. I like that. So what I'm loving here is consistency in thumbnails. Really, really good. What I recommend though is changing the color of your font. All right, brofist. No, what I recommend is that you change the color of the font because you guys— I'm not sure if you can see it here. Let's see if I can't zoom in for you. Okay, do you see how it's kind of difficult to make out this small font because it's white? I think if you altered this color to a black text, or if you had a black background that the white text was layered on, it would make it much simpler to read. Also, there is a lot of text there, okay? So you may want to consider cutting back on the text. Really do a Cliff's Notes of what the title may be, okay? So for mine, you'll see that I have a longer title, Best Apps to Grow Your YouTube Channel, but in the, in the actual thumbnail, all I've got is best YouTube apps. I want it to be a snapshot of what's going to come, right? Entrepreneurs should challenge everything. I just put challenge everything in the thumbnail. I would recommend something similar for you. Boil it down to something very specific and use that in the text for them. But I love the layout of thumbnails. I love the consistency. Again, great time shown and effort shown to this where you've got very clearly— I know who's in this episode. So is it a couple episode? Is it you? Or Or is it him, right? Beautiful, but the font is hard to see, so cut it down to something simple, just the keywords. So in this one, it's— so for the latest episode that you've got here, I would just make it CBD, vitamin C, and cannabis. If that's all the text that you have there, that's all people wanna know, 'cause that's what the video's about. They don't care about part 5, they don't care about living with Lyme and Crohn's yet. So amazing way to go, okay? I do love the layout of it. Let's see consistency. One day, four day, one week, one week, one week. This is great. Three in a week. Love it. Three weeks, three weeks, a month, a month. Your channel's only been around two months and you've got eighty eight subscribers. You're off and running and you're doing great things. So I love the consistency. You've committed to Wednesday and Friday. I would recommend that you commit to a third day. And a way that I I could see you guys going about doing this, and I I would highly recommend you do, is do a he says, she says, they say. Mm-hmm. Model to your channel if you're only gonna do the 3. And what do I mean by that? Mondays is She Says, Wednesdays is He Says, Fridays They Say, right? And that way you guys aren't bogged down to really struggling between the 2 of you to find time. The 2 of you together only need to find time to make a video 1 day a week, right? You need to find time to make a video 1 day a week, and he needs to make the time 1 day a week. If you guys do that, you use the advantage that couples have, and that's you're not tied down to to a single creator like I am. My wife doesn't have to do anything except keep my kids and dogs quiet, you know what I mean? I think you've got a great way to go. Yeah, I think that text is how you make these pop, but I'm excited to see what you do with that. I don't want to give any more tips on that. I want your creativity to come out. You clearly have it. It's a great way to go. The creativity on your channel clearly shows, so I love what you guys are doing with that. Let's move on to playlists. Okay, you're a young channel and that's fine. I understand that. So what we want to do here is— this is not a playlist. Channel trailer, delete it, get rid of it. Channel trailer is not— you're not going to showcase a bunch of channel trailers. It doesn't need to be there. Don't worry about it. Supplement series, that's great. It's anything the world is listening. I love that. That's a great way to go. What's for dinner, love it. These are all great playlists and I see the potential for them to build as we go. Now what I do recommend, however, is you showcase your playlists here, okay? Instead of created playlists, showcase each of these playlists individually, all right? That would be a very powerful way to go. Also, in your upload section— so if I go to my home, you'll see that you have the ability to have your— normally this would be my trailer, but it's my live thing. Best Android editing app? Uh, yes, I can show you the one that I use. I use the Adobe one, but I'll get into that when I do the editing. So how do you do that? You go into your Customize Channel layout. So you click your Customize Channel button, and from here it allows you to select what these are gonna be. Okay, so for returning subscribers, this is what you see. You see the channels that I feel are powerful channels that you want to watch, and then you've got my playlists. I've decided to put those there. If you want to edit anything, the button's right here. You just click the, the edit and it'll allow you to choose what to do. Okay. Now for new visitors, for new visitors, you'll see that I've uploaded my channel trailer there. And then as you go down— cancel, I don't want to actually make changes— then it's the rest of the things, right? So you can add your playlists individually here. You just click the little thing here, and instead of selecting created playlists, I, I choose single playlist from this list. And then that allows me to showcase each individual playlist that I've created. As opposed to all the playlists at once. This is also where it's important, guys, to have descriptions for your playlists, right? You see that descriptions for every playlist are here. When you get an opportunity from YouTube to put text in, make sure that you are using that opportunity to its fullest. So really break that down. I think you've got powerful playlists. I think it's a great way to go. I think those will grow in time. Now the other thing I can guarantee, if I go in here, these are all your videos. So again, I'm not sure if you were here when I said it on the last video, but what I would recommend is you have a mix-up of here's a playlist of all of my videos, and then here's a playlist of my video with other people that do similar channels. So whether it's health, fitness, diet, beauty, he says, she says channels, vlogs, couple vlogs, have playlists that showcase other people that are similar to your channel, bigger than you are— excuse me— aspiring to be channels you are aspiring to be like. It's a powerful tool to associate yourself, and it does you credit inside the algorithm as a small YouTuber to help that YouTube algorithm understand better who you are, right? So when people go into mine and they see the other channels that I associate myself with, these are people that work either to create YouTube or inspire creators or inspire people to engage. So YouTube knows by me placing these here, I associate my channel to these channels. Okay, same thing down here. YouTube knows because of this playlist, this video is somehow associated to these videos as well. And that's a small boost. I'm not saying it's monumental, that if you go in and you pick Casey Neistat, Peter McKinnon, and all these multi-million-dollar— Jake and Paul Logan— and you throw yours up next to all of theirs, you're gonna have a million subscribers tomorrow. I'm not saying that. I am not advocating that. What I am saying though is be legitimate and associate yourselves to people that that are relevant to your channel. It's a very, very powerful way to go. All in all, I think you're off to an amazing start. Really an amazing start. 88 subscribers already. So powerful. One thing that I need to note for you guys though is make sure when you're subscribing, if you haven't subscribed to my channel yet, make sure you do that. Subscribe and click the bell. Awesome, awesome. Click the bell. As well. The difference the bell makes is this: if I click the bell and I go up in here, I'm gonna see other channels. Let's see if I can find one that threw up a Tom Bilyeu. So Tom Bilyeu is one of the guys that I've clicked the bell for. So when he puts up a new video, bam, I get a notification right away. Whereas if I didn't do that, it's not necessarily gonna show that people have— or that I've uploaded a video. So if you guys have subscribed to the channel, that's a huge appreciation. I really appreciate that you guys have done that. But if you haven't clicked the bell, you're not gonna know when I put my video up. Now, while I'm consistent with which day I put the video up on, I am not consistent with when I put it up. Sometimes I put it up 10 in the morning, sometimes I put it up at 3 o'clock. It differs depending on my time that I have available to do that, right? So that being said, guys, that's it for all of the channels that we've got to look at today. A huge thank you to the 3 of you guys that volunteered your channels up to To get where we want it to go. Okay, next up guys, I'm gonna take just a brief moment here. You are more than welcome, Healing Hands. Let's go over what just happened here for those of you just joining us, for those of you watching the replay. Every week on Saturday, I will be going live and at minimum doing 3 YouTube reviews, social media channels, or websites, okay? So if you've got a website, a social network, or a YouTube channel you would like me to review, it's very simple. You just have to leave that down in the comments below on this video. Let me know that you want it to be reviewed, and the following week I will do that. If all 3 spaces haven't been filled by the Saturday, I will ask anybody that's here, or what I will be doing is making a point to throw a random video that I find on YouTube into the mix. I did that this morning with ChrisTheGamer to get us started. He didn't ask for it, I just did it. I made sure to subscribe to his channel afterwards as a thank you. Okay? So! Big shout out to TubeBuddy, guys. If you're not using TubeBuddy, I highly recommend that you do. I will leave a link in the description of this video to TubeBuddy. It's a phenomenal tool that I've used so much to help me grow title selection, description, uh, making sure that I understand keyword tracking, understand my next milestone that I'm heading towards. I highly recommend TubeBuddy for that. So without further ado, let's get out of here and into How do you build a video? Okay, so here we are inside Premiere Pro. I am literally going to take you guys from start to finish on this. Okay, so hopefully it won't take too long. I'm hoping— now Premiere Pro is very intense as far as resources for your computer. All right, let's go with— I want a new project. Thinking. Okay, so call it whatever you want. For me, I'm up to episode 86. It'll actually be episode 87 because this live video will count as one. Make sure you save it wherever you want. I don't play around with any other of those details in there, guys, just because I don't feel that— make sure I spell episode properly. Episode 87. I like to have things neat and organized so I can see everything there. Head in here, save it. Bam, we're up and running. Now, video rendering, video audio capture— there may be tricks to making this happen. Awesome, so the bell works. I love that the bell works. If you haven't clicked the bell and you want to be in on this every week, just click the bell. Um, now I don't play around with these guys. You probably can if you know more about Premiere. I'm trying to keep this simple at the level that I understand, so I actually leave these Because I don't see any reason to play around with them. Okay, so bam, we're in, we're up and running. Now when you open up Premiere, there are different layouts that you can have. For me, I leave the layout exactly the way it is. I don't play with it. I like it the way that it is. I'm familiar with it the way that it is. That's how I've always run with it, so that's how I'm gonna run with it. Essentially what we're seeing here as you load in is this here is a preview square. This here is the actual sequence that I'm putting together. This is where you import your resources, and this is the timeline, okay? We're gonna be working a lot with this, and a little bit with this, not so much with this. Um, Hookset Nation, I will definitely do yours next week for sure. Camera and software do I use to go to live? Uh, currently I'm using a Logitech HD 1080p. I will link that down below in the comments as well for you guys to check out. I highly recommend it. It's been a trustworthy camera for me. And then OBS is the software that I use. Again, I will link that in the comments below at the end of the video once this is up for everyone to see. Again guys, any of the links that I put down in the comments will at times be affiliate links, and that's just, you know, me trying to make this channel viable. It's a great way for you to support me is clicking through those links when you check out the tools. I understand if you don't, that's okay, but if you do, understand that that little click is going into supporting this channel and helping me grow. But I use a Logitech HD 1080p camera and OBS to broadcast this to you guys, which allows me to do all these fun squares and stuff, right? But what we're gonna do here is we're gonna start by importing the content, okay? So I'm gonna go in here. Now, I've got a lot of resources and assets already set up and ready to go for me. So my video trailer is here. I know this is gonna be my end screen for my video. So I can select those 2, Pull them in, it's gonna import those files and leave them over here to the side for me, okay? Now, next up, I haven't moved any of the footage that I've shot from the past couple days in yet, so we're gonna do that now. I'm gonna go into my camera flash drive. And we'll select all this good stuff here. Some of it looks like it's relevant stuff and some of it looks like my beloved playing with my camera. So let's go through and just tidy this up because we don't want any junk in here. One of the things that I really like about this, guys, is it is just drag and drop for the most part. So it's a great advantage to this tool. I will of course put a link to Premiere Pro down below for you guys to check out. So what we can do— this one, for example, I'm not sure what this is. So what we can do is I can actually double-click it and it will show up in this preview window. I'm able to see what exactly this is. It looks like it's a blank screen of nothing, so we'll get rid of that. So I've got the one video from my camera that I need, and then I will import from my cell phone a bunch of the different images that I need. Where is it? This PC. Now, normally it doesn't take this long, guys. The reason why it's taking this long is because I have so many things going on at once, right? I've got OBS, I've got Premiere Pro happening, it is uploading live, so there's a lot of delay on this. Typically it's a much faster process if you've got a computer that can handle this. So really it's just— Yeah, man, oh man. I was concerned about this, that we might not be able to, to do the live just because it is so intensive on this, which is unfortunate because I really want to show you guys this process. I may have to make an actual video of this, um, in the future so you guys can see it. If this doesn't work today though, I will make a video next week showcasing how I actually piece a video together for you guys. So that you can have this and see it, okay? I don't want people to sit here watching the screen, so I'm gonna give this about 10 more seconds, and if I'm not able to actually move through the windows and upload the content that I need, I unfortunately will stop the livestream for today, and that'll be all that you guys get to see. I'll make sure to put out a video, and if you guys have the bell clicked, you'll get to see how I do this earlier or later on in the week. Upcoming this week, guys, I'm gonna be doing a video on Patreon. I've had people asking about Patreon. Whether I use it, how they should use it, if it's viable for everyone. So expect a video on that, and I will also do a video on how I piece together an episode. So I'll make sure to throw that up there for you guys. It does not look like it's gonna be moving fast enough that I'm able to both upload, or both create and livestream this, so my apologies for that, guys. I really, really wanted to do that today, but since I don't, since I'm not able to do that, what I can do with the spare time is check out Hookset Nation today. So let's do that instead. Instead of wasting time sitting here doing nothing, let's take a look. Did it take me a long time to learn the software? Um, so what it took me a long time to do was learn how to use the software better, okay? Not to learn how to use the software at its bare core, right? So like I said, it's pretty easy. Input the pieces, piece them together. So literally the movie, like the start of the film, would be I would have my intro like you guys normally see. We'll pretend this is the intro. You just drag and drop it over here, and then it's just dropping the pieces in where you want them. And then as you edit it, that, that's something that you can work on. But the reality is, guys, I can't really showcase it very well right now, so I'll make sure to put that in the video down the road. But it didn't take me a long time to learn the basics. And as I grow, as I do more and more videos on it every week, I challenge myself to include a A new skill. So I learned how to cut, I learned how to impose, I learned how to have a lower third come in, I learned how to— so you guys will notice on my videos now when I say, hey guys, this is Dan from millennialmotivator.ca, that little thing flies in on the top and it does the cool— that took me about 3 hours to do that. But that was 3 hours I dedicated to improving my channel, and it's an asset that I have now. So every week I challenge myself to learn one new thing about Premiere Pro And in a year, I'll have learned 365 new things. So let's take a look at Hookset Nation. I don't see it. So first things first, let's see if we can't find it inside. Great, I found the image. Sometimes YouTube's funny about how it does things. So Hookset Nation. Search it directly, I can't imagine. Yeah, there we go. Can't imagine there was a ton of videos or a ton of channels with that name. I'll close this and save it for another time. It's a tank. It's a tank. It's a tank. Oh my God. Love it. I love it. So guys, as far as channel trailers go, I normally recommend that you have an actual trailer, but whether this is an actual trailer or not, that is literally, and pardon the pun, such a great hook. For a fishing channel, from the start of, it's a tank, it's a tank. If you don't already have a channel trailer built, you need to get one built with that being the start of it. That is epic. Such a great start. Okay, so off and running, here we are. Dude, this one writes itself. And I know that you said you, you knew your banner had to get some work done anyway. What I recommend is this. This, it may be where you like to fish, but there's not a picture of you Holding a ginormous freaking fish, that's to your detriment. You want that there, right? Let's see what other fishing channels are out there. Maybe I can find a nice big fishing channel. We can look at their comparison. He's got 100,000 subscribers. Let's see what he looks like. Alright. Oh God, really big one. So he's got a similar start to you, right? You said, oh, it's a tank, it's a tank. He starts with, oh my God, a really big one, right? Okay, so with yours, let's take a look at the difference between the two, right? I don't like his backdrop for a fisherman. I don't, I really don't like it. I'm just gonna be honest about that. I don't feel that's an effective backdrop. I don't care if you're in the city. What you want to see is somebody out in the wilderness. So I actually like your backdrop better. But I would include images like this of you holding massive fish saying, look what I did, right? You standing on a boat with a massive fish. I like that he's got his name here. That's a clear brand. Obviously you want to do the same thing with you. Um, and then you want to have when your videos are showing up. He doesn't have that. Um, forget these links. I hate when people do this. It's of no benefit. Look, I'm clicking away like a maniac on these and nothing is happening. There's no reason for them to be there. Here is fine. I think this is great over here. Facebook, Instagram, and then he's got his swag. I think that's great. But this, this is useless. Don't do this. Don't do that. Um, as always, I gotta subscribe to the channel, throw up a little bell. Uh, I'm not gonna do that for this guy's, uh, but you get what I'm saying, right? That, that's the feel that your banner should have. It should have that Um, that's simple. Now, on yours, I'm gonna go through. So there's a lack of consistency in thumbnails when we're looking at your videos. So let's do that next. This is good. I like this. This is great. This picture of you holding the fish, bang on. Love it. Okay, go into your videos next. Lack of consistency in thumbnails, big issue. I love that you've made a conscious effort. It's clear. From here to here, somewhere around here you went, I need to do more, I need to improve. And that, that's very, very clear that you've made that conscious decision. I'm gonna tell you, and this is a great thing that I've seen here where I see you trying to play with it and see, you know, which one do I really like, which style of thumbnail do I really like. I gotta tell you, my favorite thumbnail out of all the ones that you have here is a mix of this guy here And this guy here, okay? The text in this one is so badass. This is an amazing text. I want to know what font this is. That is a sick, sick font. I love it. I really do. And you've used it again here with Giant. I love that font. So good. But this one, it's got your face. That's your favorite fisherman. Ha! There you go. So What I would recommend is a mixture of a great background, this killer font, and your face with a fishing rod or a fish or something. That's your thumbnail, right? That's your thumbnail. That's what you want. You want this font over to this side. You want your face over on this side and a backdrop relating to the video that you're doing. So each of your backdrops is actually really bang on. They're awesome backdrops, but where you've positioned your things needs some consistency and work. As a best practice, guys, it's best for the font to be on the left. Just as a North American society, that's probably who you're appealing to most is North America, we read left to right. Now if you're mostly targeting a Middle Eastern culture, you want it to go the other way, you want it to be right to left. And that's just, if you understand how things are written, that's how that goes. If most of your traffic is coming from the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, you want your font to be on the right-hand side because they read mostly from right to left. Arabic and Hebrew are read right to left as opposed to left to right, so that's why you do that. Whereas in North America, we speak predominantly English while there are some Arabic and Hebrew speakers. Most of the European languages are read left to right, and so you put your font on the left-hand side so they can read your topic first. And then you've got your image following up so people can associate the image to the text. It's a simple thing that the brain does. Most people don't even register that it's happening. Top to bottom is another one that people use, but this is ineffective because I don't know if that's you or some random photo, and it— top to bottom, I find, limits the amount of space you have for your image. So this layout here is almost perfect except that it has the wrong font. All right. Oh, you started watching my layouts. Okay, so yeah, you'll see on my layouts, guys, again, this is— I always recommend the thing that I found to be the best practice for myself, and you'll notice that a lot of people do that exact same thing. So font, image, backdrop. Now for me, my strategy with backdrop is because I don't do a specific thing, I often have a logo or a symbol that represents what the thing is about, and And a backdrop that isn't necessarily a backdrop. So for me, going down the list, you'll see that Sarah Nichi does something similar. She's got a white backdrop and a YouTube logo and her face. She doesn't really use a text at all. That's her preference, that's fine. I agree with her, I think YouTube is her text in this case. She was just very clever of merging a logo with a text, right? But you'll see Tim Schmoyer, he's got his text, he's got his backdrop, he's got his picture. Roberto Blake switches up here where he's got his his little image over here and the text here. Maybe he knows that most of his audience is coming from somewhere else in the world. Who knows? That's a choice that he's made on this video. But again, text, image, backdrop. Okay? It's a tried and true proven method. These are my initials. You want to see some bad thumbnails? I will show you guys some terrible thumbnails. Okay? So let's go down here. So this is my initial thumbnail. That's not even me. That's stock photography that I stole from— I didn't steal. It's from pexels.com. It's a great site that you can go to and get free stock photography. That's not me, that's some guy. Here's one, you can't even read the font. It's got my image, backdrop, you guys don't know what that is, doesn't matter. Same thing here, this is me split into 3, terrible thumbnail. This is just the logo, my face isn't even on it. Here I started to get a feel for it, I gotta do a little bit more. Again, this is stock photography, that's not me with a camera. I didn't own a camera like that at the time. So not quite right. These overcomplicated— this one's just a LinkedIn sign, like not great stuff. And you can see, just like with your channel, little by little by little, I started to play with it and get a feel for it. And I just want to save you guys that time. So as I got here, I realized that there were key principles to how I sorted things and how things worked. And as I saw which videos perform better, I started to put together, this is where these things need to go, right? Until eventually you'll see I I start to settle, like, okay, I need my face, a logo, text, face, logo, text. And by the time I get to here, I'm settled on a mold. And I'll probably change this up every 6 months or so as far as color and backdrop and whatnot, but the reality is you wanna make sure that you've got a pattern that's consistent. When you land on my channel and you see these, you're gonna know that's me. These are the live ones, guys. I haven't really figured a way to change those yet. I'm going to have to 'cause that's not, sufficient for a thumbnail to grab people's attention necessarily inside search. But there we go, that's it. Let's go back into your channel here. Playlist is the next one I like to look at. Playlist, pretty limited. So again, like we've heard today, you've got, you've got some playlists here and that's fine. Consistency is not something I looked at here. 2, 3, 1, 2, 2, 3, 1, 1, 1. Okay. So consistency is one that you see as well, right? All from your phone. All from your phone is fine. That's not a problem. Oh, and that was asked by— who asked that? Somebody asked Android, which Android tool I use. There's an Android tool that works with Adobe called Clip that I use. I may have uninstalled it. Oh no, here it is, Adobe Clip. So it's the same thing as a, Um, it's the same thing as Premiere but meant for the phone. So that's a great tool, it's a great asset. I'll include that in the links down below afterwards as well, okay? Um, but the reality is, guys, consistency is so vital. At least 3 times a week, at least 2 playlists a week you want to be creating. Um, again, with your playlists on your home page, make sure that you are showing your playlists off. You saw how to do that, so that's an easy thing to do. And then showcase some of your favorite fishermen. Put Bob Izumi and the other guy that we just looked at and have all of them showcased there, okay? But I think that's it for playlists. Let's go into channels. So you're not featuring any other channels and I would do that. Feature the other fishermen. If you go into mine, there are other channels that I feature. You'll see that I've got my subscriptions, I've got YouTube Innovators, I've got Compelling Storytellers. I make a point to do that. If it's there, it's for a reason. The algorithm in YouTube wants to associate your channel with these channels. So take advantage of that, okay? Discussion, you can't really use this feature yet too much, unfortunately. You can put things in here, but not a lot of people are actually going to get that. No, never just other people's content. So if you're going to create a playlist with other people's content, it should always, always start with your video first. So here's other people's content, but my video is always first. Same thing here, other people's content, my video is always first. You want people to start on your channel because that's the benefit from the playlist. Um, you get a boost from the algorithm by having your video first for sure. But that's a great question. Um, and then in your About section, make sure that you've got a description in here. I'm not sure that you have that. Let's go in here. About, yeah, you do, but again, no social networks here, so make sure your social network is plugged in, okay? Other than that though, man, you're off and running. I think you've got a great niche. People love their fishing, they love what they're doing. I think it's such a powerful tool for outdoors, especially right now. There are many social networks out there that don't allow for hunting, gaming, fishing. It's not something that's allowed. YouTube has continued to allow it. You can put up hunting, firearms, fishing. All of that is permitted under the terms of service with YouTube. So rock it, rock this. It's a great niche. Fishermen love their fishing. They love to watch guys hook that big catch. Make sure that you continue pumping this out. Make sure you're putting the videos out consistently and fix this. Please fix this. But other than that, you're rocking it. Shout out to Chicago. That's it for today, guys. We broke the 1-hour mark. I'm about to lose my voice. Thank you so much for watching. Make sure you guys share this out to anybody that you know that's got a YouTube channel that needs some feedback, needs to know what's going on. I'm gonna be here every week. Doesn't matter if I'm sick, I'm on death's door, I will be here live doing this. Thank you so much for watching, and I will catch you guys Monday with another great video. See you then. Bye.
