Success as an Entrepreneur is SIMPLE (Here is how!)

Dan Willis breaks down three habits for entrepreneurial growth: stop over-planning and take daily action instead, consume quality business content to fuel better ideas, and build community by engaging with peers and customers. What should you be doing if you want to have success as an entrepreneur? Stick around, guys. The answer might not be as difficult as you think. Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Dan from millennialmotivator.ca, helping you learn how to create, engage, and inspire online. If you're new to the channel, click that subscribe button, the little bell next to it, you'll get notified when my next video goes live. For those of you that are new to the channel, I put out videos Monday through Saturday helping you learn how to grow your business online. Whether you're a small business or an entrepreneur, I'm here to help you grow. Today what we're looking at is what do you have to do to be successful? And there's a plethora of advice out there on this. There's tons of advice. But for me, often advice gets kind of muddied, the waters get difficult, people say do this, don't do that, this is good, this is bad, and I don't want this video to be that. What I want it to be are 3 simple actionable steps that you can take as soon as you turn off this video that you can go ahead and do right now, right now, this second, and have some success, see some growth, engage in new ways, find new people, build your business out. I want to be simple, I want it to be actionable, and I want you to be able to do it right from go. All right, so today let's take a look at what those topics are, help you get running, help you get going. All right guys, First up, get past planning. Get past planning. Now, there's age-old adages about you've gotta plan to succeed if you're gonna— forget that nonsense. Honestly, guys, everybody gets caught up in planning. Create a business plan, then get a marketing plan, create a strategy, and head over here and plan this out. Make sure you've got a board that reviews your planning to ensure that that strategy is gonna work. The reality is this, guys, every plan fails first contact with the enemy. That's right. This is something, it's a military adage from long ago. The concept is this, doesn't matter how well you plan, how perfect your plan looks on paper, the second it hits the real world, it's gonna get blown to pieces. Now, that doesn't mean I'm encouraging you to rush headlong, make foolish decisions for no reason whatsoever. But what I am encouraging you to do is start putting things into practice, okay? So if you're sitting around and you've got your journal kicking around, it's got all kinds of great business plans in there, not sure which one to pick, You're still developing financials and making sure you've got the right backing, you've got this and that, but there's thousands of great ideas in there. Stop planning. Open the journal up, find that idea, and go, hmm, this is a good idea that I can do right now. I should start doing that idea. Start the action. We are so huge as entrepreneurs, as small business owners, we are encouraged by the media, make sure you've got a plan in place and you have your financials and you check for grants from the government and you've got approval from the banks. We get so bogged down that it kills the dream before it even has a chance to get going. If you get the ball rolling, take an actionable a day, do one thing that you didn't have to do to help move the business forward, and that's do it. I'm not talking planning, do it. Oh, I need to create an Instagram profile, do it today. You need to create a YouTube channel, do it today. You need to learn how to use Premiere, do it. Create an actionable a day and get out there and pump it And do it, make it happen. When you start to create a habit of doing things, what you're gonna find more and more is you spend less time in the planning room and more time in putting things into effect. I promise this, I promise this to you guys. The reality is the more things you put into action, the faster you're gonna know whether that strategy is gonna work or fail. On paper, you can look, analyze, and assess for as long as you want, but the reality is until you put something into play, You're not gonna know how it's gonna work out. You have to try it, you have to give it a shot, see how it's gonna work. Is it gonna work all the time? Maybe. Is it gonna fail half the time? Maybe. You never know until you give it a shot. So create the habit, start an actionable, do something. As soon as you finish this video, heck, even right now, pause the video, come back to it after you've done something. Go do something. Your plans are great, they've got a time and a place, but if you're not doing regularly, you're falling behind. For those of you out there that are movie fans, you've probably seen the movie Limitless. The concept behind the movie, for those of you that haven't seen, Bradley Cooper's character takes this drug, this miracle drug NZT, and what it does is it causes his brain to fire on all cylinders. Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. All these ideas all of a sudden are going off and he's able to improve his life drastically because he's got all these ideas firing off. Now, well, it's that typical Hollywood fallacy that you only use like 10% of your brain. The reality is we use all of our brain, but most of us are filling our brain with crap. Now, I'm not gonna ask you to let me know down in the comments below, but how many of you have binge-watched a Netflix series lately? Anyone? I'm sure somebody out there has. How many of you have done this? You hop on the phone and you find yourself after a half hour just scrolling through random crap on Facebook or Instagram or Tumblr or Twitter, wherever, not being productive. The reality is, guys, we put so much crap in. But if I ask the same question, when is the last time you binge-listened to a business podcast? When's the last time you binge read business books? When's the last time that you binged meetings with clients to brainstorm? When's the last time you binge created, batch created videos for your YouTube channel? The reality is, guys, what you put in is going to spew out. That's always the case. You put crap in, crap's going to come out. If you are looking for that effect, that limitless effect where all of a sudden your brain's firing on all kinds of synapses and you've got all these amazing new ideas that are popping out. The reality is that happens in real life every day, but it happens to the people that are putting new great content in. Your brain is remarkable on how it creates. The more fuel that you give it, the more it's able to draw connections and parallels in unique ways and create new concepts. Oh, I read this book on thermodynamics and creating sculptures and car mechanics. I don't know what that's going to produce, but I do know this: the more information, the more data, the more knowledge, the more thoughts and ideas that you put into your brain, the more they're going to be able to tie things together in unique ways, and it will help you in your creative process as a small business owner and as an entrepreneur. So if the first one was take action, the second one is, as you're taking action, you want to be creative, you want to be unique, you want to have great ideas. And if you want to have great ideas, you've got to start consuming great ideas, okay? So in your downtime, in your free time, in the time when you are not actively doing, make sure that you're not just sitting there spamming, binging useless garbage. Put in good stuff. Create good content by consuming great content. That's the second tip. If you want to succeed as an entrepreneur, be doing something is number one, and step 2, Create great content by consuming great content. What's the last one? Cannot stress this enough, and I said it from go on YouTube: community, community, community, community. And that's not just your clients. I'm not just talking your clients. Your clients are an important part of your community as an entrepreneur and as a businessman, but you also want to be creating a community of acquaintances, a community of coworkers, a community of a tribe within your niche. So let's take for example you're somebody who prides himself as an author. That's a style of entrepreneur. Right? You're a writer. Great. So you want to know not only people that love to read books, you want to— people— you want to be a person who loves to read books yourselves. You want to be plugged into different reading groups. You want to connect to other authors. You want to connect to people that are publishers. You want to have the largest network possible, but you have to be engaging that community. Read other people's content, give feedback. All kinds of amazing opportunities exist in every single niche out there, whether you're a musician. If you're a musician, create great music. Know other musicians, know musicians from other genres. Consume music from all genres. Reach out to people that are producers and mixers and editors and composers. And, and know the guy that plays the cello down the street as much as you know the guy that can beatbox up downtown Ottawa. Get into your tribe. Get into your community. Figure out where you fit in it and plug in. It's so crucial to see people with skills, traits, abilities, passions as entrepreneurs that aren't willing to engage in their community, that are just looking for where's the dollar, where's the client. You're missing out. There's so much opportunity. There is. Also, you guys have to know which opportunities are right for you. There will be communities where it's like, well, this looks like a great community. It's a great big community. This is where you should be. Well, in reality, it might not be who you are. Know who you are. Know who your tribe is. Know who you want to serve. Know who can help you get to where you want to go and engage with that community actively. Don't let other people define your community for you. That's something that only you can do. I can't help you do that. Somebody else can't help you do that. That's up to you. Who do you want to serve? Who do you want to be connected to? How do you want to grow? Those things will define your community. So number 1, you want to be successful as an entrepreneur? Guess what you got to do? Actionable. You got to take action. You got to get going, do things, make sure you are daily taking action. What else do you have to do? Number 2 was you want to create great content, great services, great products. You've got to consume great things, consume great things to create great things. Check your reading list. What have you read lately? Nothing? Big warning sign. What are the YouTube channels you watch? You watching the Logans or you watching Gary Vee? Check it. Check where you're consuming your content, how you're consuming your content, and make sure that's built for success. Last but not least, guys, community, community, community. Connect to relevant people, whether that is your, your acquaintances in your niche or whether that's customers you're looking to serve or or whether that's people with similar skill sets that you could see benefiting where you want to go and where you want to grow. Make sure, guys, your community is constantly expanding, you're constantly giving to your community, and you're constantly a part of what the community is putting out. You're engaging with that as well. That is it though. Question of the day, ladies and gentlemen, is what do you think of these? Do you think I'm missing something, or do you think I nailed this right on the head? Let me know down in the comments below what you think. What would you add to the list? Do you think my list is off base? Let me know what you think. I want to know. If you think this video could help somebody, you know somebody that just pops to mind when this video starts playing, share this. It's a huge thing for me, obviously, but give it a like, share it out to them, see what they think. I'd love to know. Thanks for watching today, guys. We'll be back tomorrow with another great video, and we've got some surprises coming up with public speaking engagement this Sunday at the Toastmasters conference in Quebec. And then on top of that, I'm traveling to the States for a week, and And I'm gonna be challenging myself to shoot YouTube videos only on the cell phone. Shot, edited, uploaded, all just with a smartphone. I keep telling you guys YouTube is possible with just a smartphone. I'm gonna prove it next week. So make sure you're subscribed, make sure you got the bell clicked so you get the next great video that comes up, and I'll catch you tomorrow with another great video. See you then. See you then.
