What ONLINE BUSINESS Should I START?

Dan Willis argues that successful online businesses start with genuine passion, not trend-chasing. Identify what excites you, find the community around it, then choose between product-based (Amazon FBA, e-commerce) or service-based (consulting, courses) models. Both can launch with minimal capital.

But today what we're going to talk about is what business should you start? I get a lot of questions about this, whether it's on Twitter or Instagram or Quora. I get a lot of people asking me, what business should I start? Where should I go? Should it be this? Should it be that? I'm going to answer all those questions right here and now. So stay tuned. So people have an understanding of what business they can start today and start making money. So let's do this. First things first, guys, the question I most often get is, should I start a blank business? Should I start a blank business? The blank is obviously fill in the blank, but a digital marketing business, an ecommerce business, an FBA business, should I start a— Uh, an Etsy business. The reason why you're asking is a problem, and you need to fix this line of thinking, okay guys? The reason why you're asking, should I start X, Y, or Z business, is because somebody somewhere has said, oh, this is the thing to do right now, this is what people are doing. Great. The reality is the question that you are really asking is, can I also start an X, Y, or Z business? Somebody else has done it. Can I do it too? The answer to that is yes and no. The reality is when you are picking a business, guys, for you to just follow the trend of what's currently happening and working, it may work, it may not. The reality is this though: if you're not passionate about what you're doing, whether that's FBA or e-commerce or consultancy, whatever your online thing is, It's not gonna work out if you're not genuinely passionate about the product, the service, or the customers. That's it. So first things first, should you follow a trend? Should I start an XYZ business? No, no, the answer to that is no. Start a business that is going to keep you passionate, you care for the customers, and you actually are excited about the product or service. That's the first step. Part 2. So, if not that, then what? Well, we already touched on it a little bit, okay? So, what are you passionate about? What gets you excited? If you could wake up in the morning, and you guys have heard this, you've heard it 1,000 times. If you could wake up in the morning and do anything, you win the lotto, you know, Max Millions tomorrow, $600 million check in the mail, you don't have to worry about money ever again, what do you do? What are you passionate about? Who do you want to hang out with? What do you want to do? What do you want to see? That answer, it's so simple, that answer is the business you want to start. So if you, you know, I'd win the lottery and I'd buy a boat and I'd travel the world because I want to travel. Great. So what you should try to do is become a travelpreneur. This is a thing now. Everything's got a preneur. If you would travel for a living because you love different countries and what people do, guess what? There are other people out there that love to do that. So all you do is you go, okay, great, I'm gonna pick up everything that I've got, I'm gonna start traveling, I'm gonna vlog it, I've got my phone for my Instagram, and I'm gonna make YouTube videos, and I'm gonna travel the world, I'm gonna show people great resorts and hotels and cruise lines, and this is how I'm going to make a business. Those cruise lines and hotels are gonna pay me an affiliate fee for speaking out for them on my platforms. I'm gonna, you know, I'll showcase different resorts and events and— And those people will pay me a percentage fee, and I'll reach out to the, the program administrators. It's really not that difficult, guys. Once you start to understand that every passion has other people that follow that passion, find out who's selling to the people with that passion, and now you've got a business. It's that easy. From comic books to travel to even business books, consultancy like I do. I am passionate about helping people start a business. That's why I do what I do. If I didn't love doing this, I wouldn't be doing it. It's that simple. I could go make money 10 different other ways. I love doing this. I love helping people get that understanding. They can start a business. They're not tied to a 9 to 5. You don't have to do that job that you hate doing. You can just do what you love. It takes some thought. That's it. It just takes some thought of what is it that I am passionate about and then go create it. Create it. Go. Last but not least, guys, product business, service business. And I do have to touch on this because oftentimes the largest inhibitor to anybody starting a business is, I don't have the funds to start a business. Okay, I, I understand where you're coming from. I don't have the funds to start a business. The reality is most product-based businesses today You wanna look at the world's biggest product-based business? It's Amazon, right? Amazon.com. It's gonna be the first trillion-dollar business out there. It's a product-based business. Amazon owns exactly zero products. They don't make the products themselves. Amazon is their product. What they do is they have other people bring their products to them and they sell those. That's it. That's how Amazon works. How did Jeff Bezos start Amazon? In a garage. Everybody's seen that picture online, right? It's Jeff sitting in a garage with a computer and he's got Amazon spray paint on his wall. That's it. That's all it took to get started. Did that take a lot of capital to get a product-based business started? No, it didn't. It didn't take a ton of capital. It took some capital down the road, but his concept and his willingness to just get started is what eventually brought in investors to the concept and the idea, and it grew from there. Okay, that's product-based, guys. When you're doing product-based FBA, e-commerce, you guys are able to source stuff super cheap from Asia, get it here from Alibaba, and you're off and running. Really, Uh, like if you want to do a private label business, uh, it is so super simple and there are great videos on my channel and other channels. You can just type in Amazon FBA or e-commerce business and you'll see there's simple, simple ways with low overhead to get started and get your business successful. That is a product-based business. Okay? Service-based is even easier. All you need to get started in service-based industries, go, What can I do? What do I know how to do? I am the world's greatest puzzle maker. Great. If you know how to make puzzles, the first thing that you should be doing is making puzzles and then open up an Instagram account, a business account for Puzzle Master, and you literally take photos of every puzzle you've ever done. And then you do a video of how you assemble a puzzle and where it goes. And then once you've created those social accounts and you're putting out content daily onto them, the next step is You contact every CEO of every puzzle company out there and you go, hi, I do this. It is a specific niche-focused social network around my business where I showcase puzzles and puzzle making. Would you pay me this much to showcase your products on my Puzzle Master network? Bam, you're an influencer. Now you can run courses, create a course. How to effectively build a puzzle. Great, now you've got a course for that. I don't know the niche, I'm just making that up and throwing it out there. Maybe you're passionate about puzzles. I know my kids are. Great. How to get your kids excited about puzzles 101. Pay $30, 10 people in the course, $300 in your pocket. You're running. Do you get the idea of how simple that is, guys? Product and service. It's really that simple. You can create a business and go. You see all these comic books, right? This was a side hustle. I just bought the comics 'cause I love comics. The reality is I realized other people like comics too. Went online, Facebook Live, started selling, bam, business, right? That's how that works. See an opportunity, see a niche, see people that love something, you have a passion, great. Merge those 2 passions, create a service, meet them there, showcase how you can serve them, and go, go, go. That's it. Question of the day, guys. There's only one appropriate question For this video, and that is what type of online business are you going to start? Answer down in the questions below.
