Why You Can't Close

Dan Willis explains why gatekeepers like executive assistants block your pitch to decision makers. His framework: identify a real problem the company faces, quantify the financial impact of your solution, then use LinkedIn and cold outreach to bypass the traditional queue.

Today, what we are taking a look at is how to get your brand in front of a decision maker. Far too often we go out there as entrepreneurs, small business owners, and try to pitch only to find that the door is closed in our face by a gatekeeper that had no decision-making ability whatsoever. Stick around though, guys. The next 3, 4 minutes, I'm going to walk you through simple things that you can do to get your brand past those gatekeepers and in front of the decision makers. Let's go. All right, guys, I want to give you some practical steps that you can take, simple things that you can do and actually apply right after this video to start building that influence that will get you in front of decision makers and past the gatekeepers. Now, First, I just got to define that. What is a gatekeeper? So typically when you are looking to get your product, brand, service in front of somebody that can pull the trigger and say, yes, we want that, normally there's somebody in the way, an executive assistant, there's entry-level managers, all kinds of levels to block you out, a runaround as far as the system or application process to get people to see what you want to do, and the reality is All of these roadblocks are put up intentionally to weed out those that don't have the persistence to find a way over them, under them, around them, or through them. Now, for you, what does that mean? It means acknowledge they're there, acknowledge those hurdles and roadblocks, roadblocks are a real thing. However, that doesn't mean necessarily that you need to decide to push through them or navigate your way around them. It may be simple enough that you can just skip over them altogether. So let's walk through how you go about doing that. Any sales pitch ever is very, very simple to make, guys. All you have to do is in a quick, concise way, drop the value that you bring, the solution that it offers, and let them know that you're ready to deliver it here and now. So that means that you've got the skills and the authority to make it happen. Let's back that up a little bit here and just give it to you one more time, okay? So you have to be able to present a solution. That's gonna be profitable for the person you're dropping it on, and you have to show them that you have the skills and the ability to make it happen, all right? Every decision maker in the world wants to know those things are there. How you go about doing it are the tips and tricks that I've gotta give you here, okay? So let's tackle those one at a time. Number 1, you wanna be able to show the solution. Every company out there has problems. There's not a perfect company in existence. Everybody has a gap. They're missing something, they could build on something. Something's not doing what it's supposed to, and you and your firm have the ability to plug in and play with that. It doesn't matter who you are, what you sell, why you sell it. You can find a fit for your solution to a business. I almost guarantee it. It doesn't matter where you're looking. Find a way to create a solution to a problem the company has using what you're offering. That's the first big step, and this does take some work. You're gonna need to problem-solve a little bit, okay? It is possible though. Everybody's got that ability. You simply need to get to know the company that you want to pitch to, what their current struggles is, what their pain points are, what it's worth to them to fix it, and how your system, product, or service fits into doing that. Take that time dedicated to finding the solution, and once you've got that solution, hold on to it because you're gonna need it for the next step. I mentioned previously in the last tip Analyze the pain point that that company is receiving, whatever it may be. The hurdle that they are facing is costing them money. That's why it's painful for them. And the reality is your solution that you've discovered is wonderful, but if it's only solving a problem that's causing a tiny little pinprick to the company, it's not going to be enough to get you in front of that decision maker. If you have found something critical, if you have found a problem big enough and your solution is solid enough that it's gonna deliver a massive ROI, a massive return on the investment from the company, any decision maker in the world, a CEO, an executive wants to hear that. If your solution is crafted to solve a major pain point that's gonna return profit to the company, it's already got their attention. I guarantee you this. They don't care as much about what it's gonna cost them to have you fix it so long as the problem that you're solving is so massive that it would be critical for them to get the job done and have you fix it. That's key. You've got your solution, you know how much it's gonna save that company, how much it's gonna make that company if you implement this solution. Now you just have to have that laid out clearly that you can present it to a decision maker. Last but not least, it's the ability to jump the queue. What does that mean to jump the queue? Instead of you bridging an application process, going in for grant applications or, or weaving your way through the cluttered mess that is the red tape to get to an executive or a decision maker through emails and phone tag and secretaries and executive assistants and all that jazz, the reality is this. If you have analyzed and discovered a problem and you have a viable solution, start speaking that out to the world. Start telling people, I can fix this, I know how to do this, whether it's your social media game, whether it's directly in emails, phone calls, decision makers, like-minded people, people that know the company that you want to reach out to. This is where LinkedIn becomes extremely powerful, where you can find people in your network that know decision makers and other companies that need the solution. Make sure you are being vocal and you are frequently putting this solution out there that you know how to solve this problem and use that as leverage to connect to decision makers directly, either through LinkedIn, direct messaging on Instagram, Twitter, reaching out to profiles, making phone calls directly to offices and saying, I have a solution that will save you X amount of dollars. Bigger company, tens of millions of dollars. Smaller company, $100 grand a year. Whatever it may be, you know your solution, you know the return on investment that you can offer the people you're reaching out to, and all it is now is finding those decision makers and reaching out direct. Okay, that doesn't mean you're looking for how do I apply to the next grant. That doesn't mean you're willing to speak to the secretary and schedule an appointment. That's just a runaround tactic. If you're getting that door in your face, accept the door and find another route. It's like a maze, it's like a labyrinth, but using social media effectively, reaching out through DMs or connecting on LinkedIn with a solution that presents an ROI will leapfrog you way over the line and give you the ability to speak directly to changemakers and decision makers within the companies. Hopefully that is helpful for you guys. Those are some things that maybe you hadn't considered in the past. Maybe you have been just waiting patiently in line. Maybe you're not necessarily presenting a solution, just a product, just a service, or maybe you haven't been able to present a solution effectively because you don't know the return on investment the company is going to see from that solution. Merge all 3 strategies together and you're sure to find a win. Let me know down in the comments below what you think about this. And if you know somebody that's been struggling with getting in front of a decision maker, make sure you share out this video and send them my way. I will catch you tomorrow with another great video, guys. Thank you so much for watching. Catch you later.
