UX Insider: Product Hunt Roundup - E.16 - Too Many Features, No Idea What To Do Next

Daniel Andor reviews four new AI products from Product Hunt, signing up and testing each one. He finds the same problems across all four: confusing onboarding, unclear what to do next, too many features crammed in. He shows how simple fixes like clearer buttons and better empty states could help users actually use these tools.

Hi, I'm Daniel from Duran, a product design studio for growth-stage tech teams. Together, we explore what's working, what's not, and what you can learn from the newest launches on Product Hunt. Let's dive in. First, we have Skipper.ai, the live AI employee inside your product, serving every user. This is the website. Okay, let's accept the cookies. There is this video, you can scroll through it, but It's not a lot of explanation, so I'm not sure what's happening here, but you can scroll through this presentation. We have the pricing here. It's basically a one-pager from what I see, the whole thing, and you just scroll through it. Let's create an account then. Okay, the signup page. Oh, we have another cookie policy. We accept that as well. This is a bit weird. So I didn't saw the I agree, the terms and conditions. Part. You see it's just shaking when I click on continue with Google, so I have to accept this. Let's connect with Google then. Okay. Oh, I have to use my work email. Here it says about us and also here. So yep, let's go with work email. Go. And again, accept this. Okay, verification code added. And now into the onboarding, create your workspace. Daniel Company. Okay. And create your instant expert. Not sure what this thing does. So we have a chat here on the side which opens in the middle.
Okay.
Let's just create this. So now they are building an agent. There is an SDK. I can share it. Let's just launch the dashboard. And we are inside of the dashboard. So I assume just creating the expert is basically one click. You can customize it. Not sure how many people would do that at the beginning. So, and that's all. So we are inside of the product. It would be great if there would be a bit more guidance. So now there is a message from the agent. Takes some time to load.
This call is being recorded for quality and service improvement purposes. By continuing, you consent to the recording. For more information, please visit our Okay.
I couldn't stop it though. I just have to press pause. Okay. Can I close this? Okay. So we have agents. We can create a new agent, onboarding, demo, training. Let's go with an onboarding agent. There's description. You can add a bunch of other details. And there are the voices. Hi there.
Help you get the most out of this.
Let's take a look to Okay, 30 minutes. I'm not sure what the session is. Let's go with 30 minutes. And this thing is building. Can I just move around or? There is something called bodies as well. So instead of this one, we can have other icons, I assume. And you can also select where do you want to put the agent on the screen. Let's go with this one. Does this still working? Oh, if I'm navigating to another page, then I assume this whole thing just stops. I don't have it anymore. So yeah, that might be a bit tricky. There is something like onboarding agent. So there is a new agent. Oh, now it's here. So we have an onboarding agent in the end. Account setup. So I assume once you have a bit of a usage on these agents, things will start to populate here on the dashboard. But up to that point, maybe it would be helpful to give a bit more guidance of like, what should I do next? Because I'm here, I assume if I'm really into this, I obviously can set it up. It's usually not a good idea, you know, just have A blank dashboard that I'm staring at. No real next steps at this stage. I can share a meeting link now. It's copied. What happens if I just open it? I have to create an account. So yeah, I kind of, that's it. I would just give either a demo, something, or some information here on the dashboard just to nudge people towards like, you know, use this, how to use it. They cannot type here. So that might be a bit challenging. I have to talk. Okay. Other than that, yeah, the product looks okay. The signup page was very bare bones. It was just like sign up and that's it. But it was okay. It's working. So it's not a big problem. Not sure, like the empty states there, there might be a good idea to work a bit on the empty states. Like, yeah, I can upload a bunch of files here, but maybe just letting me know what kind of files or just showing something here instead of like You know, this blank page here. Sessions, which is mostly logs, I assume. And users, it's like the people that either use the agent or users that are inside of my workspace. I'm not sure. Probably users that are actually using the agents. Yeah, kind of that's it. So probably one thing that would worth considering is like working on this overview/dashboard page a bit and adding some next steps here. That could be helpful. I'm not sure what kind of next steps. So for this, you would have to map out the flow a bit and understand how people are actually using this product. Just giving a bit more into like, this is what you could do. These are some of the next steps that you should take. This is how you set up an agent or something like that. Yeah, you have a button that leads to agents, which is basically this one. You can create a new agent or toggle on/off. But kind of that's it. The next product is Lev8. Okay, let's open it. Turn the live web into people and business intelligence. I, yeah, I can also type inside of the chat window. You can click around the website, see some of the highlights, product comparisons also, and you can start a free trial. We will do exactly that. Let's create an account. Oh, that's nice. Nice clean signup page. They also ask for a work email, but they don't ask to accept any kind of other terms and conditions. Okay, we are inside of the product. We have a chat window here in the middle. Integrate with 1,000+ apps to supercharge your workflow. And kind of that's it. So you can use it for a bunch of stuff. Lead generation. This jumps a bit weirdly, as you can see. The lead generation enrichment autopilot. I'm not sure what's that. Automate global go-to-market workflows, meeting prep, and a bunch of other ones. Okay, you can do outreach. You have an inbox, tasks, feed. Though the empty state here and the empty state here looks slightly different. There are a bunch of skills that are already enabled and you can upload new skills as well. Looks like there is a bit of a lack of consistency when it comes to buttons and elements on the page like skills. This button is slightly smaller than tasks and outreach. And here you also have a dropdown, which I'm not sure why, probably because I can select between these 2. But yeah, it's a bit confusing. It could be just a button without the dropdown, I assume. And you can start a new chat. Okay, let's go with lead generation, find early stage voice engine companies. Okay, let's just pick one of these 10 B2B SaaS companies that launched AI agents. Send. And it opens the chat. This looks nice. Animation and also the avatar of the agent looks nice. It's working. They give you updates as things are going. Okay, and now search criteria, companies provide B2B. I can edit these. I can add some new. Okay, just select something. Let's go with this. So yeah, the animation for the icon, it looks quite nice. And here we have a list of companies. We had 10 as a target, but looks like we already have 18. Does it still go? Looks like it's still going. Okay, and I can export. I cannot because I don't have an active plan, but technically you would have the option to export and also to save, which Still not working, probably because the agent is still working in the background. Things are changing. Not sure what or how. Oh, the score. So basically they change the score and then reorder the list by score. You can also stop this and then that's it. I can save it. Okay. And it's saved. Now if we go to the library, we have all the Companies here. What can we do with the companies? Can we do anything? We have social links. We have a short description. Product or engineering lead is also here. It looks actually nice. I consumed like 3 credits from what I see. So still have a bunch of credits to do stuff. And you can connect a bunch of products as well. Gmail, Outlook, Calendar, LinkedIn. A bunch of other ones, quite a lot of them. Then you can start basically a new chat. And probably from this, I assume, yeah, you could use the list to do outreach as well straight from the product. But now it created another chat, so it doesn't continue inside of the chat that I already had. And the credits went down. It's still working. Okay, so we have contacts with email addresses still working here. Though it says processing here on the sidebar, but nothing inside of the chat. And now we have it. So let's go with LinkedIn, book a demo, whatever, and skip this. Okay, so they want my name, which is Daniel, plus founder and product designer, product designer at Duran. Do they need anything else? Product design studio for growth stage tech themes. See what we can also do. So we can minimize the sidebar, obviously share feedback and Slack. It's probably sending it or connecting it to Slack. Okay, now we have a list of contacts, companies, and angles. Next step, preview. Let's have a preview. Of LinkedIn message draft. Still working. Okay, that's interesting. I'm not a big fan of these outreaches, but yeah, it's a good start. I would say as a draft, it could work. Needs a bit of work, so I definitely would get rid of the em dash and probably make this slightly easier to read. Other than that, it's okay. The product, it's quite clean. I would say it has a bunch of nice things. Even this preview of the message here and the fact that I can see it's the message straight here instead of like just in the chat. And then the rest of the UI looks nice as well. Probably standardizing some of the elements could help and just making sure that things that you want people to click are more visible. So for example, these disconnect fades a bit into the background with like you have this stroke and then you have another button with the similar stroke. And even on hover state, it barely changes. It's just the strokes gets a bit more visible. So yeah, small things like this. Other than that, the product, it's nice, easy to use. It might worth a bit working on these. It's not a big problem, but just slightly improving how this works and pushes things around. Maybe just pushing things downwards or something could be a better option, but Yeah, other than that, it looks nice. The next product is Fuzzy AI. We warm your prospects before reaching out. Let's sign up and see a bit on the website. Some highlights, how it's built, and oh, they also have these calculators. Okay, so let's create an account. Let's go with Google. Oh, I have to give access to a bunch of stuff. Okay, let's go with the trial and they ask for LinkedIn connection. So I will just skip this for now and you can do outreach and personal branding. Let's go with outreach. We have like an onboarding list of things that we should complete. This is nice and I assume it stays here. Yeah, it stays here on top. There is also an agent. The agent itself has different Slight onboarding or highlights of what you can do. Draft an outreach message, start a campaign. Let's close this one. So I cannot use it, I assume, just— oh, I'm not sure if I can use it or not. It says upgrade to access. It might not be included in the free trial or something. But yeah, we'll see. There is a lot of these popups and I don't have the navigation on top here anymore. So let's just go here. Here we have the navigation on top, but if we switch to the agent, the agent has a different layout. We don't have the onboarding here anymore. Let's go with like, okay, I cannot use this, I assume. So, and this thing opens every time. And also this one, not now. I assume you can prospect, like see what other people are doing and posting and such things and their connections as well. You can have contacts. I had a few just to see how it looks, I assume. And you can open and edit the contacts. You also have their LinkedIn and email. Not sure how the email works or if it works, but probably it's, it's just a template or something. You can have campaigns as well. Let's see. Email, email. Okay, so we have some kind of templates that we can start with. What this actually means. So we have the contacts, and then next we have these 4 templates that we can choose from. Let's go with like view details. So this looks like a standard builder. How can I open these? Click the edit button in the top right. Note to create a message. I don't have an edit button though, at least not here. Should I? Something is still loading here. What if I click on next? Maybe now. So you have a preview, but you cannot edit. Oh yeah. And probably here you can edit. We have some memories. I don't want to leave the campaign. This is a bit weird. Like, why would I leave the campaign right now? So maybe opening this in place instead of going in someplace, that would be a better idea if it's possible. And editing, it's Here you can also change the template here in place and it regenerates the emails. Still working. You can change the templates for each email as part of the sequence. Okay, let's go with reply agent, write and send replies on your behalf. Probably I wouldn't like this. I would just keep replying myself. And can I skip this? I think I can skip. Yeah. And then you have a campaign review where you can like draft campaign. It's ready or still— here it says it's ready, here it says it's still generating. So probably still generating, I assume. You also have an inbox, nothing here at the moment. Contacts, and you can integrate identity on team. I thought that this is for contacts, but actually it's identity. That means that you can basically connect LinkedIn, connect Outlook. You can draft an email signature. You have daily limits and memories. Okay. You can create memories. You can extract information from another LLM, which is nice. You can upload documents. You can add your website and also you can just type it yourself. Let's try out the LLM one. So I just pasted that in Claude. It's still working. So we'll see what the output looks. We have quite a document. Now, if we copy this and add the whole thing here, can— so extraction failed for some reason. Probably clicked it twice or something. Now we have it. What I should do next? Should I just click start extracting again or maybe just closing it? I'm not sure. It was a bit confusing, I would say. Now I assume it's done, but I still have this start extracting button here. I will just close this for now. And we have a bunch of information now. Still working, something failed, still working. Oh, now it should be fine. And if we go back to campaigns here and Magic Copy, let's just open one. Can I edit this or edit campaign and reopen this thing and Click on regenerate. Not sure if it changed too much, but maybe something. I think we can just leave this aside. The product looks nice. It's clean, mostly easy to use. I would say for somebody who's into doing outreach, there are some things that from time to time might be a bit annoying, like this one, or confusing. But kind of the patterns, I would say, are similar to some products that are doing outreach, at least from what I tried. So it's not very complicated. On the agent side, I didn't really test it that much. So maybe you can say it too. Oh, it doesn't work either way. So maybe if you put it here, it would be nice to just have the option to actually try it out once or twice just to see how it works. Creating a campaign was I would say fairly easy. We still have the, the onboarding process here on top, so you can see exactly what I should complete and connecting my LinkedIn, create memories. Though from what I saw, I created something. I'm not sure if that fits inside of memories or not. So if we click on this one, so we have memories, I assume it should be checked. And the list, I didn't create a list yet. I just used the details that were already here or the contacts that were already here. And every time I come to a new page, I assume, does that show up every time? Not now, but when I come through the onboarding, it shows up again. That might be a bit annoying. But other than that, as I mentioned, The product is okay, not very challenging to use. Would be nice if I could just try out the agent once or twice, maybe just to see how it works and if it brings any value. The rest of it was, I would say, quite standard and I'm used to it from other similar products. Let's try out Nautilus, the AI-native operating system for founders. Allow cookies, get started. Okay, reject nonessential cookies. Let's go with Google. This on the left side, it took quite some space, I would say. And the fields were packed here on the right side. It's fine. It's not a big problem, but it might come a bit more towards the center of the screen, maybe, especially because this left side doesn't add too much value at this case. Add a password as well. Agree and create an account. Now I have to verify my email. We have the email here. Let's go back. Let's paste it here. And we are in. I'm not sure what happened. Like now I have 2 models, one on top of each other. Let's go neutral for maybe later. And then where's your agency today? Taking on clients or scaling? Taking on clients. Get clients, manage projects, a few specifics. How do you get customers today? Let's go with first one and activate. Let's close this. So we have a setup checklist which looks a bit long, I would say. And though it says 0 of 9 done, I actually have 1 done, but it's optional. I'm not sure that thing— how I can go back there? Or can I go back there? So not here. This is just switching between modes. Okay. Sometimes it's not working properly, I assume. I'm not sure what's this one. Team Auto, click to cycle. Notifications, help and support, what's new. We have the Copilot here. It's like a lot of things are happening on the screen, I would say. Oh, here is the setup. Okay, I was looking for this one. So if I go back, you can set up the organization here, and does everything just feed into this? Choose a plan, which I assume is the next tab. Yes, we are in the free one. Okay, what happens if I switch this? Oh, it just switches the colors. Let's go with the default one for now. And then you have the option to invite, connect, calendars, create events, and such. Let's go back to The dashboard. So as you can see on the dashboard, there's like a lot of stuff happening. You can track a bunch of stuff, which is good once it's set up, but when it's not set up, it's like, it might be just a lot. It's nice that you can hide cards and basically customize the dashboard a bit. If we go to Chief of Staff, what you can do here, okay, burnout radar, okay, approvals, memories, history and such. So we have one for this one. If I click on this, what happens? Start checking. Okay. Save. So you can track, yeah, you can track quite a lot of data though. I'm not sure how much this helps at this moment. For me, like if I'm just switching back to the dashboard, looks like a lot of stuff are happening. I can also create a new dashboard. And I can refresh it and I can customize. For me, it's a bit too much happening on one screen. I'm honestly not sure what I should do next. You know, it's like, what would be the next step if I'm landed on a dashboard? I can also edit the workspace. I can, I can, I can just do too many things, I would say, in one place. So that might be worth working a bit to like cleaning up the dashboard, highlighting some steps. Or some next actions and such things. The setup sometimes fades a bit too much and it's not aligned properly. Maybe putting it here on the top could help. And also this agent, I'm not sure what should I do next. This basically opens another window. Okay. It's an interesting product. I would say it needs a bit of a polishing, and at least on the how it looks, how it works on the UX and product design side, it would benefit of a bit of a prioritization of the elements on the screen and somewhat of a guidance just to make sure that people don't get lost inside of all these options that you can do and Sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming almost, I would say. And for some reason, as you can see, like company, it's not actually a tab itself as AI Copilot is or Chief of Staff is, but it has a sub element that you can click on, but it's just only one. So basically it could work the same way. And even here, probably it would work. Probably this edit workspace could go into settings so it can clean up a bit things around here. Resources, I'm not sure how much people are using them or if you really need them here on the sidebar. Some of the fonts look slightly different or icons slightly different than the other ones. And also this AI model selector, I'm not sure how people are using it, if they are using it, or how much they are using it. So yeah, a bit cleaning it up, giving it a bit more structure probably would benefit. The product and also the users that are using it, because the product itself looks interesting and with a lot of potential. But it might be challenging to just figure out what should I do here. Okay, so that's it for today. Hopefully you found some interesting nuggets, information, or tips that you can use in your own product. Watch out for really overbuilding it, because what I saw in these products built with AI tools or vibe-coded or such things is that They tend to be overbuilt with too many features, not necessarily well connected. They kind of have the same feeling and same look. And it might work with early adopters, but as you start growing, things might go sideways because like, you know, users, new users especially will have different expectations. You need that trust factor, which usually doesn't necessarily come with a very basic looking product. And that's also overbuilt, not prioritized and not Set according to their expectations, and also obviously the flows itself. If people can use it, if they understand how to use the product, if they are guided through the product to the next steps. So yeah, thanks.
