Somatic Breathwork Brought ME Back | Nervous System Reset

Fish describes how somatic breathwork helped her recover from a severe nervous breakdown that left her bedridden. Steven Jaggers guides a two-round breathing practice: mouth breaths with a hold, then nasal breaths with longer exhales to reset your nervous system.

I'm living my dream life, but I actually work always. And I got sick. This was a debilitating sickness. This was a bedridden sickness. I actually held myself at night and cried. I had broken myself. I was going through a nervous breakdown. For the grace of God and a good friend named Gabriel Ryder, who came into my house, pulled me out of my bed and dragged me to his car and took me to a house. The house of a man named Steven Jaggers, who I will be sharing the stage with. I would come to find that I would be participating in my first breathwork session. Unwillingly. This is a picture of actually that session. Five sessions after this, my life would be returned back to me. I would make a vow that I would share breathwork with others who could use it. I would like to introduce the man who I owe a great deal to, Steven Jaggers.
Check, check, check. What's up, Kajabi heroes? An honor to be here. Thank you for that story, Fish. Of course, it wasn't even that long ago. It's been quite a wild ride. So how many of you guys have ever heard the term, or maybe you've said this to other people? You're on my last nerve. Or maybe how many of you guys have ever been to the point where you feel like you're about to have a nervous breakdown? Well, these are all signs and words that we use to describe a nervous system that has lost its superpower. And that superpower is the ability to choose. Your success as an entrepreneur, as a human in general, is predicted on your ability to choose. I had a mentor once say, health is your ability to choose. That is the human superpower is choice. How many of you guys, and probably everyone here are like, go, go, go, do, do, do, build, build, build. All the time. Have a hard time shutting it off. That's me as well. Probably most people on the other side. How many of you guys have ever been in a point of your life where you have a hard time finding purpose, finding passion, turning it on, finding drive, anybody? A lot of the times those things are paired together, and when we don't have choice, we get flung back and forth. See, what happens is when we are go, go, go, do, do, do all the time. A lot of the times that can get paired with anxiety. We have this buildup of energy inside of us, and it's like, ah, I got to do something with my life. I got to create. And then I have a hard time shutting it off. And when we spend too much time there, we get put in timeout. Life will make you shut it off. And what I like to call that is a forced rest. Maybe you get sick, maybe you get burnt out. How many of you guys have been put into a forced rest? Yes, I think we've all experienced that. And then what happens is you get flung to the other side and then you get put in time out. And then, you know, maybe you feel a little bit of depression, like, I don't have any drive, I don't have any energy, I can't get up, I can't show up for my community. And then you spend too much time there. And then you start to feel this bubbling up of energy, like, I gotta do something with my life. And then you get flung to the other side. And then this ping pong effect just happens where you are flung back and forth. When health success is your ability to choose. I can turn it on and I can have purpose and passion and I can create. Then when it's time, I can shut it off and I can actually enjoy what I've created. Many guys have a hard time actually shutting it off and enjoying like what you've put all your energy into. I've experienced that and that is no fun. And so learning how to turn your system on and also turning it off is so important. It is your superpower. And so today we're going to kick off the day with a little. It's a short, guided, daily breathwork practice so that we can turn your nervous system on fully and also learn how to turn it off. I don't know about you, but I can always relax so much more when I have like pushed myself hard physically. And maybe, maybe you've experienced this. When someone's stressed out or you're stressed out, the last thing you want to hear is someone say, hey, just chill out, just take a breath, go try that and see how that works. Usually we need to actually go further into it. I need to turn my system on fully so that I can shut it off. And we're not taught this in school, but your breath actually controls your state. It's a button, it's a toggle switch that you can change the state of your nervous system, your electrical system at any time with your breath. And so I'm going to share with you a short, daily guided breathwork practice that you can do for yourself, you can do with your clients, your community. Do it anytime. It's so accessible to anyone that breathes. What this is going to be is it's going to be two rounds. So the first round we're Going to do deep breaths in, in and out of the mouth. We're going to pull the breath all the way down, as deep as you can get it into the belly. It doesn't matter how fast you go, it's how deep that you can pull it and find your own rhythm. Find your own rhythm. Maybe a 5 to me might be a 10 to you, or a 10 to you might be a 20 for someone else. Find your own rhythm and stay with it. In between those rounds, I'm going to do a breath hold. And what that's going to sound like is I'm going to say, deep breath in. You're going to hold your breath. You're probably going to feel like you can hold it for a little while. During that time, all of the times when you're holding your breath, you'll probably have clarity around something. Maybe it's the next thing that you need to do in your business. Maybe it's how you want to show up in your life. And then the second round, I'm going to have you switch to in and out through the nose. We're going to start to slow the breath down, and you'll start to feel that you can really relax into yourself. Because your superpower, your power in general, it's always relaxed. Power is relaxed. It doesn't have to flex. So you can do this seated, get yourself in a comfortable position, and we're going to kick it off. You can close your eyes if you'd like. This is an inward journey. Let's all just go ahead and take a deep breath in. Let it go. Cue that music and let's keep that breath going in and out through the mouth. Turn it up a little bit. Deep breath in and out of the mouth. Let's crank that music a little bit. Deep breaths in and out of the mouth. Find your own rhythm and stay with it. Clear out the stress. Clear out the tension in your body. Use the breath. Turn it up a little bit more. Deep breaths. Push yourself a little bit. Turn your system on. It's just your breath. Your life is measured by breath. When we took our first breath. Someday we will all take our last deep breath. Breathe in how you want to feel. Breathe it in. How do you want to show up in the world? Breathe it in. Feel it in every one of your cells. Keep the breath going. What do you want others to feel from you? Breathe it. What did you come here to create in this lifetime? Breathe it in. Feel it as if it is already happening. Feel it as if it's happening right now breathe it in. Keep going. Almost there. Charge your system up. Turn it on fully. Activate yourself. Do two more all together. Deep breath in. Let it go. Deep breath in. Let it go. One more. Deepest breath in. All your air. Breathe it all the way to the top and hold it and see your superpower. Feel it. What is your unique superpower? We all have one. Whenever you're ready, you can let it go. We're going to switch to in through the nose. Deep breath in. In through the nose and go out through the mouth or out through the. No. Start to elongate your exhale. Breathe in. Elongate your exhale. Breathe that superpower back into your body. Deep breath in. Into the nose. Remember who you are. Remember what you came here to do. You came here to be. Breathe it in through the nose, out through the mouth. How deeply can you connect to yourself? Breathe it in. You can't make clear decisions if you're not connected to yourself. You can't connect to other people if you're not connected to yourself. Let's do three more. Deep breath in. And through the nose. Let it go. Elongate your exhale. Exhale. Deep breath in. Let it go. One more. Deep breath in. Let it all go. Maybe hold it out for a moment. Just tune into your spine, your posture. Sit up nice and tall. That straight line of energy that is your spine. It is you feeling aligned in yourself, feeling connected to yourself and your superpower. This is something you can do anytime. All it takes is your breath. Pass it back over to you. Thank you, guys. Hope you enjoyed.
All right, well, I don't have much time left, but can we get the slides back up? I want to kind of just show one more slide here. Okay. So really quick. I don't have much time. I'm getting the blinking clock. Yoga is when you use your breath in motion. Meditation is when you use your breath in stillness. And breath work is the ability to.
Toggle between those two states.
That's what you just experienced. Basically, I was going to go on a long rant about superheroes and whether or not you want to be Superman, who has the ability to choose to take off his cape to put it on when he needs to, or like the Incredible Hulk, who does not have choice and is in a dysregulated state. Lastly, I want to leave you with an opportunity to pull out your phones and scan this QR code. It will be a recording of that breathwork session so you can return to it at any point in time when you feel stuck. You feel like you need to move into activation or into relaxation or just take a picture of Steven.
I thought you were waving to me.
One more slide. You can always return back to your breath. This is what this is all about. It is about bringing your unique superpower to your kajabi community. Thank you so much for having us, Kajabi. Thank you. And Kajabi heroes, use your powers for good.
Thank you. If you want to experience the power of somatic breath work, we would love to see you at one of our community sessions. You can click the link below to figure out when our next session is, and we'd love to see you there.
This experience, I truly believe, could literally.
